As in over…never gonna happen. After fans have seen “Twilight” and read all 4 of the books in the vampire series, they are clearly hungry for more. While Stephenie Meyers, author of this phenomenon, was in the process of writing a 5th addition to the books a leak of the unfinished manuscript put a screeching halt to “Midnight Sun.” The project was basically a retelling “Twilight” but from Edward Cullen’s point of view.
Rumors that she was still going to go on with the project now conflict allegations that the project is forever done.
According to LA Times:
“Are avid “Twilight” fans killing the next book? Stephenie Meyer is reportedly so upset about the online leak of her work on “Midnight Sun” that she hasn’t written another word and she’s not gonna. Ever.
She’s working on another novel that is not written from Edward Cullen’s point of view, like “Sun” is.”
Read into that statement what you will. Other reports confirm that she is working on several different manuscripts which are non-Cullen-vampire related. A rep for the writer confirmed via NY Daily:
“Nothing’s changed,” a rep for the author confirms to us. “Stephenie has no plans to move forward with ‘Midnight Sun’ at this time.”
The author herself explains on her site that she is beyond upset and has had the desire to touch the project since the leak that happened in August 2008.
Per Stephenie Meyers:
“So where does this leave Midnight Sun? My first feeling was that there was no way to continue. Writing isn’t like math; in math, two plus two always equals four no matter what your mood is like. With writing, the way you feel changes everything. If I tried to write Midnight Sun now, in my current frame of mind, James would probably win and all the Cullens would die, which wouldn’t dovetail too well with the original story. In any case, I feel too sad about what has happened to continue working on Midnight Sun, and so it is on hold indefinitely.”
So there. See what happens we are greedy and impatient. It’s like being put in the naughty chair for time out.

I have been screaming about this for months. She’ll finish it eventually. I am convinced. Someday, though it’s hard to believe at the moment, the Twilight rage will die-down and she’ll come to grips with this and complete it. At least, this is what I am telling myself so I stop crying about it.
I came to terms with this back in the summer. And then, when the movie was due to come out, I read what had been released and enjoyed it.
I hope SMeyer will write some other books (The Host was very good) and then come back to this.
I really hope that Stephenie will revisit her decision and decide to finish writing “Midnight Sun”. Even if she serialized the release in sections. To know the thoughts and feelings of Edward during the “Meadow” scene would be priceless! Plus, it would show whoever leaked her story that they don’t have the final say. Maybe 2009 will be the year she takes control of the situation- fans are really hoping so…
wait hwwen she says shes working on another novel does she mean an addition to the twilight series or not?!?
I think Stephenie ought to get over it and finish Midnight Sun. It’s to good to drop!

According to her official website, the project she is currently working on is not Twilight related…which totally blows.
I’m sure she will eventually finish it. I don’t think she ever expected the Twilight series to become as popular as it has. It would be a shame NOT to finish it. It was wonderful reading the story from Edward’s point of view.
i read the 264 pages on the stepheine meyers own offical site. When i reached the last page i screamed i can’t beleave it she must finish the book its amazing an to understand whats goes on in edwards head an what he really thinks what he hears , so many fans wanna know more she has to carry it on
i know she is really upset about the leak, but i have to agree, the twilight books are just too good. i’m dying to know what is really going through Edward’s head. i really hope she finishes it some day. it would be a real shame if she doesn’t. i think i’m going to hold off on reading what she posted herself on her page in the hopes that she’ll finish it and get it published.
oml i totaly wish she would finish it but then again i also hope this non twilight related project is a sequel to the host which i thought is an amazing book….

I hope she really does finish the book. The other books were fantastic and i love to read them. It makes my heart drop to think that their will not be another. Though i think she knows what she’s doing and i respect her decision.

i really dont think she would stop writing we all loooooooooooove her books so much ‘twilight’ ‘new moon’ ‘eclipse’ ‘breaking dawn’ its really heart breaking to think in a few years this will all be over all the movies will be out and watched and all the books read, life can be such a mess sometimes and twilight takes you to a whole different world living a fairy tale…lets all hope she will keep writing the 5th book and not stop because of 1 person that had to do this to all her fans…i have never enjoyed a movie or a book as much as twilight..edward and bella takes us to a whole different place… i think everybodys dying to know whats going trough edwards mind… what do we have to do or say to make it possible to read midnight sun?????

I saw an interveiw with stepenie meyer written in November or december 2008 (cant remember when) saying that she might continue Midnight sun in two years or so when every one has forgotten about it.
Unless there is a more recent post i am not aware about, there is some possiblity that she will continue it
I totally understand why you wouldn't want to finish the book. But in my point of view, I have never really gotten into books until I have read these books. I do home care for an elder lady and she just loves me reading to her! I am almost done with #4 and am going to be deprived when I am done
lol But take your time when ever we will get to read it…the worse that could happen is that we will forget what we read in the first place and will have to start all over again

i really liked twilight and the other books and i was hoping for another i was excited when i heard there was a 5th book
I don’t fit this fan demographic. A former student brought the book to me and asked me to read it so we could discuss it. I have a few teaching certificates and a couple of advanced degrees so I expected the book to be the usual YA fare–simple, superficial plot and nice pat ending. I was shocked by the depth hiding under what at first glance appears to be a simple love story. I immediately (within a week while running two libraries during the day) read the entire series. It’s all there, steamy hot erotic yearning, true love, tragedy, action, intertwined plot woven throughout the four books, human frailty, supernatural interest. I was shocked by how good it was.
Then I looked for the 5th book for Edward’s perspective and found…REALLY?
A pouting, petulant, dare I say whining author punishing her fans because someone close to HER leaked the book. That stunned me too. How did these books come out of such a spoiled childish author? Will she really punish fans she’s lucky to have with this childish behavior? Wow!
As much as I like the books and would buy and read more (I bought the set after reading the first borrowed one)I am very put off by her disregard for loyal fans. I for one won’t read her new SciFi although I love the genre.
This fervor for Twilight will, as all things, fade in time as fans find new books to love. If her own pride is greater than her consideration for her fans, she should at least consider her pocketbook and do all she can to capitalize on this phenomenon while it lasts.
I’m not a reader – my mom gave me the Twilight series for my dauther and I picked it up one day (Sunday, April 5th) and started reading. Today is April 14th and I’ve already started Book 3 Eclipse.. For me this is a big deal.. I’m looking forward to re-reading them but I wish I was able to read the other side of story (Edwards point of view) it wasn’t until I went on line to see about the movies they are making for Twilight that i found out that a book of Edwards side was coming out.. as i read i found out that it’s not.. I really wish you’d change your mind and write Edwards side.. There’s so much that hasn’t been told and needs to be written..

I have read the Twilight series so mant times and i was soooo looking forward to Edwards Version of Twilight:Midnight Sun and because some freak was too impatient and and posted the book around the word,i dont blame Steph for being mad and upset but now we have to wait. Sooner or later the Twilight Saga wont be anywhere near as popular as it is now and by the time that book is released, it wont be any where near as popular as they would be if it was published in the next year or less. She has to keep writing the T.S and publishing, i was looking forward to Edwards Version:Midnight Sun. But i have read Breaking Dawn, Eclipse,Twilight and New Moon sooooo many times(just begining ‘The Host’) and i just have to read Midnight sun ASAP!
So…….Ill be waiting Steph will continue writing soon/one day,i just know it,thats why i dont cry bout this disaster.

I think that she shouldn’t retell Twilight from a different person’s point of view.It doesnt tell what we want to hear from what it left off in Breaking Dawn. I want more info. on what happens next. Not the story Twilight all over again.
