Completely Lost: Re-Cap

First off, I want to start with some thank-you’s. Thanks to all of you who read this and especially those of you who leave comments and tell me that you enjoy the write-ups. I enjoying writing this and I love hearing your theories about what is going on with Lost. Keep it up!

Another big thank you this week to Damon Lindleoff and Carlton Cuse, the writers of Lost, for bringing my man Jin back in full force! I honestly thought Daniel Dae Kim may have suffered the same fate as the other cast members who like to mix cocktails and a drive around the Hawaiian coast, but it appears all is forgiven on that front.

Now for the boos and hisses: What’s up with answering questions you just posed in this episode. What is this, Heroes? Stop answering the obvious (one of which I will get to later) and start telling me some things I have been wanting to know since ’04!!! What do the numbers mean? Why is Jack’s dad all over the island when he is supposed to be dead? Who was the real Henry Gale?

Let’s get to the recap now, shall we?

LA Vida

We start off this week again, right where we left off the week before. Our dear “present day” friends are chillin’ on the docks in LA. Sun pulls a gun on Ben who tells her Jin isn’t dead. Even though we know he’s right this time, she stupidly believes him. Why do they believe Ben? Kate gets Aaron and splits (thanks, I am really tired of you as of lately). Sayid threatens to shank anyone from the group that bothers him again, a promise I hope he keeps; he chucks up the deuce and is off like a dirty shirt (thanks for that one, Duckie).

Ben gets Jack and Sun, and what we still assume to be Locke’s corpse, into the van and rolls out.

While in the Mystery Machine, Jack tells Sun he’ll shoot Ben himself if Ben is lying to them. Ben goes Kanye West on them and launches into a tirade about how he has gone to great lengths to keep them all safe. Give it up for Michael Emerson who is a phenomenal actor. Even I believed him at this point. Should we believe him though?

At the end, they pull up to a church thus adding more to the religious aspect of the show which I can never follow. Desmond shows up, gives us a nod and a “Hey Brotha!” and joins our friends as they enter the church where the creepy Eloise Hawking is lighting alter candles. Uh, Des? This is the point where you are supposed to say something along the lines of, “Hey, you’re the crazy lady that sold me Penny’s ring and told me I couldn’t marry her.” But he doesn’t, because this is Lost.

Islands in the Stream

On the island, Jin is chillin’ with Rousseau and the other Frenchies. He tells them about his camp and his wife, not knowing that neither exist yet, and tells Danielle there is a radio tower which he will take them to. This is awesome since we know Rousseau did launch a broadcast from the radio tower at one time.

While en route, they hear Smokey, everyone’s favorite monster. Jin knows what is going on, but no one will listen. A French lady is dropped from the sky and Mr. Mean Frenchmen is grabbed by Smokey and dragged to a temple where Smokey lives with his wife and kids. The others try to save him, even though he was a total French jerk, and all they get in return is his ripped off arm. Sweet! The others decide to go into the temple of doom to retrieve “Lefty Frenchman”, but Jin makes Rousseau stay outside. We can assume that the “sickness” that her team receives that brings about their demise, is given to them in the temple. Whatever. I am over the French.

Time shifts, but only what appears to be a few days ahead (Lefty’s arm is only slightly decomposed). Jin makes his way to the beach where he witnesses Rousseau’s Hamilton vs. Burr style duel with her Baby Daddy. She turns to shoot Jin, but alas he is saved by another time shift. Is it me, or do the time shifts have impeccable timing?

This time, Jin is greeted by Sawyer and the rest of our time traveling island friends. There is a tearful reunion, Charlotte translates, and the team moves on to the Orchid Station. Is it just me, or did Jin neglect to tell everyone he had been hanging with the French? This seems kind of a big deal to me, but what do I know?

Now we have a time shift times two and Sawyer joins the bloody nose crew. Question: if your nose bleeds in accordance with your time on the island, why aren’t Locke and Jin’s noses bleeding as well. From what we know, Sawyer, Locke, and Jin arrived on the island at the same time. Are we to deduce that Sawyer also has been on the island before? And why is he still wearing a shirt? Shouldn’t some blood have dripped on it leading him to tear it off in a “Where the hell is my Tide pen?” rampage? Better luck next time.

Charlotte starts yelling at poor Jin in Korean and then tells him, “Don’t let her come back, this place is death!” HALT: why are we all assuming she is referring to Sun? I don’t speak Korean and the captioning Nazi’s didn’t translate for me. Jin certainly thinks she is referring to Sun, but what if Charlotte was merely stating what the ‘scary man’ said her about not coming back to the island. The ‘scary man’ we later learn is Daniel himself. Whatever. I have had it with Charlotte. Die already.

Charlotte keeps talking crazy, shifting from Geronimo Jackson references to telling Locke to look for the well if the Orchid Station isn’t there. Thanks Red. Since she weighs a whopping 115 lbs, I am guessing, the others can’t carry her so Daniel stays and the rest continue the trek to the Orchid Station. Charlotte admits what we have known all along: she lived on the island as a child with her parents before her mom took her back to England and lied about the existence of the Dharma project. She became an archeologist to find the island and return. She croaks. Thank goodness. Let’s not feel badly for Charlotte though. In her post-island life she is making a movie with George Clooney. Lucky ho.

The rest of our friends find the well. Jin freaks and makes Locke promise to not bring Sun back and given him his ring to prove to Sun that he’s dead. We already know this plan backfires thanks to Ben. As Locke makes his way down the rope like the fat kid in gym class, time shifts and he falls and breaks his leg (nice bone!). Our friends are left holding a rope with no well and no Locke. No Locke?! The horror!

Locke, however, is screaming in agony at the bottom of the well, when he is greeted by Jack’s dead father, Mr. Christian Shepard. They exchange salutations and Christian, Jacob, Senor Creepy, whatever you want to call him, reveals that he is more than miffed with our friend Locke who was supposed to be the one to turn the wheel in the first place. Though Locke offers him an explanation, Christian asks him why he ever listened to Ben (good question!), tells him to turn the wheel, and find Eloise Hawking. Boy, this chick is popular! Christian refuses to help Locke walk over to the wheel and, when asked why he has to die, tells Locke that is what sacrifice is all about. This definitely has something to do with religion and since I spend my Sunday’s doing laundry, someone help out here. What is he talking about?

Needless to say, Locke drags his gimp leg to the wheel and gives it a tug and the show ends.
Though better than last week’s episode, this week still left me a little miffed. Seeing where Smokey lives did not make me happy and only introduced questions about the temple. I don’t need more questions!! Seeing Jack’s dad didn’t satisfy me since Locke conveniently forgot to ask him about Claire’s whereabouts. And why couldn’t Christian throw Locke a bone (tee-hee) and help him over to the wheel? Can he not touch humans? Is he really Jacob? Oh, and what the hell is going on?

Very nice recap. I agree with you, it was time for Charlotte to go and everyone knew she was from the island. Not sure why Jack’s dad keeps showing up and the whole religious thing that seems to be going on either. Unless this is all in Locke’s head and he’s got some sort of Jesus complex going on. Love the fact that Jin is back! I knew he would be.

  2. Lizz says:

Nice recap! I like how you say that Sawyer shouldn’t be wearing a shirt… Everyone can agree with you there.

  3. Matt says:

The temple looked older than the Black Rock, which I think was the previous oldest thing on the island.

  4. Casey says:

Is it just me, or does anyone else wonder why Faraday’s nose isn’t bleeding (or has it, and I just didn’t see it because it got lost in the ‘stache?). We know he has been to the island before with the Dharma initiative, so why is he seemingly immune? Is it because of his research, or because maybe he’s an Other like his apparent mother, Eloise Hawkings? So many questions. I thought I saw the writers say they’d answer more questions than they raised this season. Huh?

  5. Emily says:

Nice recap – Helps me “get” the whole episode – if that is possible! Just an observation – Jin looks awfully “buff” for what he’s been through… Oh, and Charlotte…you know she’ll be back. No one is gone forever on this show!
