New Star Trek Movie Likened to Dark Knight and Casino Royale

The newest “Star Trek” movie got its first review, and it is glowing. The Mail Online, its lengthy but well written review, has compared this re-visioning of the “Star Trek” series to the “Dark Knight” and “Casino Royale”. Hefty comparisons I must tell you! As both franchises were spectacularly re-launched, but with well-known actors at its helm. The review even goes on to claim that this film “promise(s) a creative re-birth of science fiction adventure.”

Now I am excited! I was intregued by this film, but I wasn’t hooked, you know? It does have a really cool cast, but there hadn’t been too much information on the story and after the latest “Star Trek” movie, this one wasn’t at the top of my list. Thank you Chris Tookey, for your enthusiastic and well thought-out review. Star Trek has definitely moved up in my mind from a maybe-see to a must see.

For those who do not know anything about this film coming out it stars: Chris Pine, as Captain Kirk. He hasn’t been in anything amazing, but this could be the vehicle that drives his career forward. We have Simon Pegg as Scotty, Zachary Quinto, from “Heroes” as Spock and John Cho as Sulu. As the villian, we have Eric Bana, who is apparently unrecognizable in the role. This cast is young, recognizable but not entirely well-known. This might just be the right mix of people to bring forth a revolution in science fiction films. Further, it is directed by J.J. Abrams, who seems to have the magic touch in Hollywood these days! I, for one, am excited.

“Star Trek” is being released May 8th. The story centers on the early life of Kirk, why he is driven to join the Starfleet and the first major adventure Kirk and his crew have, which is of course saving the Federation.

The new Kirk is kind of yummy. Chris Pine hasn’t been in a lot (Just My Luck?!) but I sure hope this means good things for the future!
