Former President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton‘s daughter, Chelsea, is engaged. The only child of the couple is set to marry the son of a former congressman from Iowa and congresswoman from Pennsylvania: Investment banker Marc Mezvinsky. Chelsea and Marc, who have been dating well before her mother was on the democratic campaign trail, were friends as teenagers and studied together at Stanford University. The couple was rumored to be getting married last summer in Martha’s Vineyard but the stories turned out to be false. They announced their engagement in a mass e-mail to over 500 family and friends Friday morning.
“We’re sorry for the mass email but we wanted to wish everyone a belated Happy Thanksgiving! We also wanted to share that we are engaged! We didn’t get married this past summer despite the stories to the contrary, but we are looking toward next summer and hope you all will be there to celebrate with us. Happy Holidays! Chelsea & Marc.”
The happy couple live in New York, and he employed by Goldman Sachs while she attends graduate school at Columbia University’s School of Public Health. Though all four of their parents are political figures, both of their fathers were at the center of scandals – Clinton with the whole Monica Lewinsky situation, and Edward Mezvinsky, who was released from federal prison last year after pleading guilty to charges of bank and wire fraud.
It sounds like she picked the right guy! In February last year, Marc bought a 1,900-square-foot apartment in NYC for just over $4 million – in cash. And no, that is not a typo! I don’t know about you, but I want to see that engagement ring. Someone who can afford a house like that can surely afford one hell of a sparkler! Let’s hope she has better luck than her mother.
