Summit Wants Chris Weitz To Direct A Two-Part ‘Breaking Dawn’

Now that “New Moon” is breaking box office records, “Twilight” fans are looking beyond “Eclipse” and more-so to “Breaking Dawn.” Though there has been no official confirmation of “Breaking Dawn,” the fact that it appeared as a tab on the official “Twilight Saga” movie website back in July has always indicated to us that the movie would indeed be made. To us, the only questions have been when and where. But the major questions surrounding “Breaking Dawn” seem to be over which director will helm the final “Twilight Saga” film and will it be made into one or two movies? How about bringing back a previous “New Moon” director for “Breaking Dawn?” That’s what Kristen Stewart was thinking when she suggested Chris Weitz return for the final installment.

Per MTV:

“I think Chris Weitz should do it,” she said. “I had such a good experience with him on ‘New Moon.’ He was so considerate there and passionate and compassionate. One of the nicest guys I’ve ever met in my life.”

Shooting has already wrapped on “Eclipse,” the third movie in the vampire saga, and now speculation is increasing over how Summit Entertainment plan to approach Stephanie Meyer’s final “Twilight” novel. Sources are saying that Summit plans to split the final book into two separate movies, to be shot back to back, and would likely continued to be scripted by Melissa Rosenberg – but Meyer must first approve the two-movie decision.

Per MTV:

“They might pull the ‘Harry Potter,’” Jeff Bock said, referring to the two-part split of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,” the final book in that series. “And don’t be surprised if they do. [Summit] would be hard-pressed not to put ['Breaking Dawn'] out next December, because there’s just too much money to be made right now. Then it gets really interesting, do they do spin-offs. It’ll be interesting to see what kind of rights Summit has, because I am sure they’re chomping at the bit to extend this franchise as far as they can.”

Variety” magazine also speculates the franchise’s stars Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner could benefit from a bigger paycheck from the films if “Breaking Dawn” is officially given the green light, receiving payment in the 8-figure range. However, Summit would have to reopen negotiations with the stars if the movie is broken down into two separate ones, as they are only signed on to do four films. It is also being speculated that Chris Weitz will be asked to return to the directors chair. Although no official offer has been made as of yet, sources say the job is his if he wants it. But will Weitz commit to the back-to-back films, which are sure to keep him away from his family for several months? I’m sure Summit is preparing to empty their wallets on this one in order to line up the correct pieces.

oh god i hope its a two part movie and i hope they bring back chris weitz. he’s worth whatever they have to pay him. his directing in new moon made catherine hardwicks look like an amateur filmed it.

  2. Maya says:

Bad idea Summit to bring back Chris Weitz. Its Catherine Hardwicke who brought Twilight to us its Catherine who gave summit and twifans the perfect Edward Cullen and the rest of the characters. New Moon is not a hit becoz of Chris Weitz its a hit becoz its the sequel of such a good film (Twilight). Catherine brought out Edward and Bellas passionate romance so beautifully and aesthetically with its brilliant music score so she should complete the saga. Chris Weitz is a bad option as he will only concentrate on the wolfs please summit do not drift from the centre plot of the story Bella and Edwards story. Chris also tampered a lot with the original script written by Mellissa R. We should all VOTE for Catherine to direct B/D. Bella and Edward hardly showed a connection in the end of New Moon they needed to show how much they love each other, how they are addicted to each other and how badly they missed each other and well they cannot live without each other. Chris W only concentrated on promoting Jacob. Finally its Bella and Edwards love story and how they over come all the obstacles in their life to be together Jacob is just one of the obstacles hope Summit remembers this . Hope Eclipse brings back Bella and Edwards magic created in twilight. No doubt their is a 70% drop in the ticket sales rate for New Moon. The end was really hurried.

Anyone else think they’re trying to copy Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by splitting it into two parts? I mean, honestly. One film for this crap is enough…And I am VERY sure I will get yelled at by all the rabid Twilight fans, but thats cool. I am intitled to my own opinion. And if my opinion if Twilight sucks, and you disagree, deal with it.

  5. Amel Swan says:

I agree with Maya, I think Catherine is the right one to finishing that movie, just like opening and closing must the same director. but I dont know anyway,,,,I hope The Summit have 1 good choice for this because I love this movie verymuch.
