Friends and family of former “Boston Legal” actor Justin Mentell are in mourning after he was killed due to fatal car crash Monday morning. He was only 27 years old. According to the accident report, Mentell was driving alone when he drove off a steep embankment on a rural Wisconsin road just after 3 a.m. His Jeep struck two trees and Mentell was thrown from the vehicle. The sheriffs department said he was not wearing a seatbelt and that it did not seem drugs or alcohol were a factor. The accident wasn’t called in until around 8:30 a.m., when a passerby spotted the wreckage. Officials pronounced Mentell dead at the scene. What led Mentell’s Jeep to veer off the road is still unknown.

William Shatner took to his Twitter feed to express his grief over the loss of Mentell.

Per MTV via Twitter:

“I’m deeply saddened to hear about Justin Mentell,” Shatner wrote on his Twitter page, acknowledging the recent death of his “Boston Legal” co-star. “There’s no telling how far up the ladder he may have climbed. My sympathies to his family.”

Mentell portrayed attorney Garrett Wells on “Boston Legal” from 2005 to 2006 and also was Terrell in the 2009 Disney movie “G-Force.” He was a former member of the U.S. Junior National Speed skating team, placing third in the Junior Olympics. Such a sad and unnecessary loss. Our thoughts are with his family at this time.
