Agnes is a Swedish pop singer who rose to fame as the winner of Idol 2005, the second season of the Swedish Idol series. She has since gone on to be one of Sweden’s and Europe’s most popular and best-selling female singers, selling over 180,000 albums in her home country alone. In mid-2009 she became the first Idol contestant to receive an international launch, with the singles from her third album “Dance Love Pop” being released in 35 countries worldwide. Her first international single, “Release Me“, has sold over 700,000 copies worldwide to date. I had the chance to chat with Agnes about her interest in music, her hobbies, and what its like to hear her song played on a hit tv show. You can read the interview below.
When did you first realize you had an interest in music?
I think it was because of Swedish Idol in 2005. After the finale, I recorded my first album and people like me and my music I did and thats when it became actually known for me, so I would have to say after that.
Who are some of your musical influences?
I love listening to Whitney Houston. Her voice is amazing. And I also love listening to Stevie Wonder and Swedish pop singer Robyn.
Who are some artists you’d like to work with, whether it be touring or in the studio?
Before Christmas at a radio event in the UK, Ne-yo performed. He is so good live and he’s someone I would love to work with.
How would you describe or define the sound of your music?
I think “Dance Love Pop” describes it good. Its just full of really good songs. I think its important that you can not only dance to music but also have the good melodies.
Besides music, what are some of your other interests and hobbies?
I love fashion, clothes, and shopping. I love to work out and meet people. I love to hang out with family and friends and have a good time.

Your Myspace page shows that your music has been played alot, and you have an enormous amount of fans. What’s that feeling like when you see that?
Its just amazing. Alot of people like my music and I travel alot, so to travel to a place I’ve never been before and see people singing my music is just amazing.
What are some of your hopes and plans for your future?
Traveling. I’d going to try to travel to Australia, German, the UK, and the US. I’m excited to go to the US and tour. I loved it there.
Your song “Release Me” was on “Melrose Place” a few months ago. Did you catch that episode? Whats it like to hear it on a hit tv show?
When they called and asked me if they could use my song, I was so happy and excited. I love the show. It was really sweet and fun.
In 2005, you won the 2nd season of Swedish Idol. What was that experience like for you?
Its so amazing because before I was on Swedish Idol, I had only been on stage one time in my life. Everything was so new to me. It was an amazing time and I was so happy.
We’re reading online that you’re planning to start working on new material for your next album. How will this one differ from your past work?
I’m actually meeting a record producer tomorrow. I dont know what kind of material it will be but I am really excited. Last year gave me a lot of energy so I’m looking forward to working on what’s next.
