Chris Golightly Replaced by Tim Urban on American Idol

Chris Golightly seemed to be a front runner in the American Idol race. His curly hair and sweet disposition won over the judges (sans Katy Perry who is a no-heart and deemed him a better for a Lifetime movie) with his story of being bounced from 25 different foster homes. Golightly made it to the American Idol Top 24 list and would have been left to the mercy of voters. However, Chris has been replaced with Tim Urban after a past contract agreement reared its ugly head.

A statement by Fox merely stated that he was deemed “ineligible to continue” with the competition. Trying to explain, Chris spoke to an Idol fansite trying to clear his name. Apparently he had a contract with an old boy band that never got off the ground. It expired in June of 2009. However, a site called Joe’s Place Blog isn’t clear on what exactly happened. I am not sure if it is the aforementioned boy band contract or his apartment contract that was the problem (or the boy band manager and apartment manager are the same person???), but here is the story:

After making it to the top 24 in January, Golightly said he broke the lease on his apartment and sold his car to pay off the lease fees, only to get a call a week ago from the person who held his previous contract telling him that he was still under that agreement. Chris said he was not under that deal anymore, but couldn’t find his release. After a round of phone calls between the singer and “Idol” execs on Wednesday, Golightly was informed just hours before the Hollywood finale aired that he would be disqualified because he couldn’t definitively prove that he was not bound to the previous contract.

Sadly, according to Joe’s Place, the old manager later found the contract release and e-mailed it to Golightly, but it was too late, and because he made the top 46 this year, he reportedly cannot try out for the show again next year.

Since this incident, the Golighty issue was ignored on Wednesday’s show and he is said to be seeking the help of an attorney. I doubt this will have any positive outcome for him, but when your opportunity is yanked out from underneath you by some shady boy band/apartment managing slag you get your sue-happy pants on and get your shank eye out.

This is really unfortunate for Golightly… but I have to admit that I’m really glad Tim Urban made the cut in his stead. I was so happy to learn that he made the top 24.

Good things will happen for Golightly, I’m sure. Good things will happen for both guys :)
