Ryan Phillippe and Abbie Cornish Who Dumped Who War

What – no ‘this was a mutual decision’ crap we’re always being fed? After nearly four years of dating, Ryan Phillippe and Abbie Cornish called it quits – each claiming to have dumped the other in a bitter break-up battle that is playing out in the press. Cornish’s publicist said she ended things with Phillippe due to his excessive partying and a serious case of a wandering eye.

Per NY Daily News:

“Ryan wasn’t going to marry her anytime soon,” says a source. “He was constantly out and about and doing his own thing.”

“Abbie took control of a bad situation and ended it once the truth became clear. She told him it was over as soon as she realized Ryan wasn’t taking it as seriously as she was.”

But Phillippe’s camp is spinning a different version of their split, claiming that he was the one to end the relationship after they grew apart.

“Ryan ended the relationship with Abbie while she was in Australia, which was before N.Y. Fashion Week, and asked her to move out of his house, which she did this weekend,” says the rep. “She was out of town working for seven months, and they grew apart.”

Cornish and Phillippe met on the set of their film “Stop-Loss,” around the time Phillippe and actress Reese Witherspoon announced they were separating after seven years of marriage. But should Cornish be surprised? Not if she stops to think about how she and Phillippe came to be. If reports about Phillippe’s infidelity are to be believed, then Cornish should have adhered to the adage, “If he cheats with you, he’ll cheat on you.” Last May, the infidelity rumors began to start and it was reported that Phillippe was partying with several blondes in Cannes – and Cornish was nowhere to be seen. It’s sure sounding messy – with Reese and Jake Gyllanhaal also ending their relationship recently (read about that here), I hope R & R’s kids are coping okay with the break-ups. Any hopes for a Ryan and Reese reconciliation, maybe?
