Whitney Houston’s Concert Walk Out

Whitney Houston’s comeback world tour went from bad to worse on the latest leg of the tour in London’s O2 arena last night. Fans might have just been satisfied to see the singer back on stage but those hoping for a great performance were severely disappointed, resulting in hundreds of concert-goers walking out. This as the singer, once known as “The Voice,” missed high notes and cut her songs short. Houston apologized and blamed the air conditioning in the arena for the problems. However, the fans began to leave during “I Will Always Love You.” Houston sang just one or two verses of hits such as “Greatest Love Of All,” leaving her backup singers to handle tough notes and she paused to catch her breath during songs, sometimes panting heavily between tracks.

“Sometimes the old girl sings, but not tonight,” she said of her voice. “I want to do it, but she doesn’t want to. … She’s getting a little … temperamental, even.”

It is the latest setback to Houston’s “Nothing But Love tour.” Her first three UK dates were canceled because of a respiratory infection and she received poor reviews for the opening leg in Australia. This was Houston’s first concert in London in over a decade and due to the disappointing performance it might have been her last. Whitney did manage to stay on stage for the majority of the two-hour gig, but fans were still unhappy, with some even demanding their money back.

The concert “is rubbish,” said Mark Higgins of Hampshire. “She can’t even complete a song.” He said he’d asked for a refund and was told to contact the concert promoter. His daughter had given the tickets to him and his wife for Christmas. “She’s going to be heartbroken, because she saved up all her money for this.”

“I remember her 20 years ago,” Dave Law, of Plymouth, said of Houston. “She’s not a patch on what she was.”

It’s a shame and upsetting that someone who had such talent and an amazing voice has come to this and to see her struggle, especially for someone who back then had such high moral standards. Let this be a lesson to you, kids!
