‘The 4 Complete Ed Sullivan Shows Starring The Beatles’ DVD GIVEAWAY!!

When The Beatles stepped onto Sullivan’s New York stage on Sunday, February 9, 1964, to make their American TV debut, 86 percent of all TVs on at that hour – 73 million Americans – tuned in. It was the most-watched program in history to that point and remains one of the most-watched programs of all time.

Nearly 50 years after the four landmark live performances of The Beatles on “The Ed Sullivan Show,” those legendary appearances with newly remastered audio and carefully restored video will finally be made available worldwide on home video through a major distributor. It was announced today by Universal Music Enterprises (UMe) and SOFA Entertainment that “The 4 Complete Ed Sullivan Shows Starring The Beatles” was released September 7, 2010, by UMe, a division of Universal Music Group, the world’s leading music company. The 4 Complete Ed Sullivan Shows Starring The Beatles was produced by SOFA Entertainment.

“The Beatles changed music and popular culture forever,” says Bruce Resnikoff, President & CEO, UMe. “This DVD collection contains treasured performances and UME is thrilled to bring these milestones of music and television history to fans, whether they saw the shows the first time or have never seen them.”

“We used the full extent of today’s technology,” says Andrew Solt, Executive Producer and CEO of SOFA Entertainment, which purchased all 1,050 hours of “The Ed Sullivan Show” in 1990. “The quality is better than it ever was, in fact, better than when the shows aired, especially visually. For example, the February 16 performance was from Miami’s Deauville Hotel, not from a studio. The quality of the tape image was very fragile. We went back and improved it frame by frame.”

With a running time of more than 250 minutes, The 4 Complete Ed Sullivan Shows Starring The Beatles presents those shows uncut, including not only all of the other performances but also all of the original commercials. The audio is available in both mono and a 5.1 remix. Also included on the two-DVD set will be material from other “Sullivan” shows, notably a short interview with The Beatles which has not been seen since its original television airing in 1964.

Few moments of The Beatles’ performances had ever been seen before a similar DVD package debuted in 2003, but distribution was via a small independent company. Now through UMe, The 4 Complete Ed Sullivan Shows Starring The Beatles will be widely available at traditional retail as well as non-traditional retail such as book stores, major department stores, specialty and high-end stores.

In addition, the new DVD set has been augmented with approximately 13 minutes of additional footage. The added material, rare Beatles-related gems from other “Sullivan” shows, is placed at the end of each disc. Among them is a brief London interview with The Beatles by Sullivan which has not been seen since the day it aired (May 24, 1964); a 1966 black-and-white commercial for Beatles dolls introduced by Sullivan in color; and the host reading a 1967 telegram from The Beatles congratulating him on the renaming of the studio to “The Ed Sullivan Theater.”

“Usually when there is a major historic moment, it’s seen on every channel,” notes Solt. “What makes the first Beatles performance so unusual is that ‘The Ed Sullivan Show’ was the only place you could see it. Even though their music was everywhere, we had never seen them live. It was a shared joyous moment for an entire generation and still is today.”

The Beatles appeared live on “Sullivan” three more times–the following Sunday from Miami, a third consecutive show (February 23), and finally September 12, 1965. In all, the Fab Four performed 20 songs (15 different ones), from “All My Loving” and “I Saw Her Standing There” (twice each) to “I Want To Hold Your Hand” (three times), “Yesterday” and “Help!

The Sunday night variety show, which ran from 1948 to 1971, was seen live in the Central and Eastern time zones but fortunately was taped for airing in the Pacific and Mountain time zones. Yet few tapes had been transferred to a contemporary format until Solt obtained the rights. Today he continues to transfer and remaster them. Solt’s other credits range from the 1979 TV special “Heroes Of Rock And Roll” and 1988 feature documentary “Imagine: John Lennon” to the 1991 Warner Brothers theatrical feature film “This is Elvis” to the 1995 TV documentary series “The History Of Rock ‘N’ Roll” and 2006 home video “Elvis: The Ed Sullivan Shows.”

“For so many people who experienced those first shows originally, including myself,” adds Solt, “we remember where we were. But we never saw them again. Now we can, and in context–the complete shows–with all the raw energy and excitement, the audience going crazy. There’s also a new generation, one that has bought the reissues, the Rock Band videogame, seen Paul McCartney play on the marquee of the Ed Sullivan Theater that’s the home of ‘The Late Show with David Letterman,’ heard the songs on ‘American Idol.’ They know the music so well even if they were born decades later. A word like ‘timeless’ gets overused but it definitely applies to The 4 Complete Ed Sullivan Shows Starring The Beatles.”

Lindsay Lohan to Host ‘SNL’

Lindsay is roaming free and back to vodka gobbling in between attempts to reheat her career.

Saturday Night Live’ cast members will have to hide the key to the coke cabinet (the liquor cabinet has been empty since 1993). Lindsay Lohan is currently in talks to host the NBC late night staple. This will be her third stint as host for SNL.

According to sources, it is all but a done deal after her willingness to poke fun at her drunkery at the 2010 MTV VMAs. All she has to do is keep her crack habits to a minimum and avoid any more trouble with the law. It sounds simple enough, but she can’t even accomplish a right hand turn without hitting a child. Reps for the show refused to confirm talks were happening and simply told NY Daily: “We never comment on upcoming hosts until they’re announced.” (Click HERE for Lindsay Lohan’s VMA skit and coverage of the show.)

Penelope Cruz is Pregnant PICTURES – Rep Confirms

Penelope Cruz is pregnant for real! This time there is an actual baby and not some bloat from eating a double-decker taco.

Cruz, like many other actresses, was the focus of ‘baby bump rumors’ and tabloids claiming their sources were insistent the ‘Nine’ actress was preggers. Obviously no baby came and she laughed off reports. Now, after marrying Javier Bardem in July of 2010 in the Bahamas, a rep for Penelope confirmed to People that she is 4 and a half months along in her pregnancy.

Currently, she is filming ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’ and was caught in a billowy white top that clued everyone into her baby status.

Isla Fisher Has Second Baby! – PHOTOS

I adore Isla Fisher. She strikes me as someone I could depend on to hold my hair back after one too many French Martinis or have the honesty to remind me that thigh high boots are only work for hookers and Cher.

Isla Fisher and Sacha ‘Borat’ Cohen had a second child! I love that they walk the walk when it comes to their private life. There has been no press releases, baby showers with Tiffany rattles, firework displays in the shape of Isla’s baby bump or a spread in People debuting a pink faced baby in a field of daisies. Isla and Borat simply surfaced with a new addition to the family in style. E! is even the gender of Olive’s new sibling is still unknown.

Below are some photos of Isla with a baby belly in May as she takes Olive to dance class.

Congrats!

Courtney Love Covers Lady Gaga’s ‘Bad Romance’ – VIDEO

Correction…Courtney Love tried to cover Lady Gaga’s ‘Bad Romance.’ Why? Because when you think of ugly and diseased an image of Courtney in Walmart version of Victoria Secret slip pops into your head and scares you limp for a week.

The “singer” showed up over an hour and a half late for her set at Don Hills. She then croaked out this gem and demanded booze and cigarettes. Because people actually paid good money to see her drunken carcass, she threw in a verbal diva out…

Shut the f**k up, or I’m walking the f**k off. I mean it.

Charming.

Zac Efron’s Beard – PHOTOS

No, not Vanessa Hudgens.

Zac Efron is sporting a beard. I know this is hardly cause for news, but I needed a break from the all the 2010 MTV VMAs coverage! So what better way to clean a palate than some Zac Efron beard photos? (Don’t answer that.)

Efron showed up for the ‘Charlie St. Cloud‘ (Siempre a mi lado) photocall in Spain looking like a Brawny paper towel campaign exploded all over him.
Enjoy!

Tino Coury’s ‘Diary’

For multi-instrumentalist Tino Coury, it all starts with the music. “When I write a song,” he says, “I want a beat you can dance to, a great track–but also a story. There has to be a heart to it.”

The serious buzz surrounding Coury began in May when his debut single “Diary” landed on over 50 Top 40 and Rhythmic stations in its first week of release, an achievement unrivaled in recent history by any new artist. Then came Coury’s striking debut video for the track directed by Roman White who has created videos for the biggest names in music today such as Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson and Justin Bieber.

The Pittsburgh bred, 22-year-old singer-songwriter-producer has been earning fans all over the country by performing on national TV and at shows with Jason Derulo (at the sold-out The Fillmore New York at Irving Plaza), Drake, Train, Iyaz, New Boyz, Mike Posner, Kelly Rowland, Cartel, Kris Allen, and the Backstreet Boys, among others. Now based in Los Angeles, Tino plans to release additional singles in 2010 and a full-length album in 2011 via Eleventh Records.

Billboard magazine, in a review of “Diary,” took note of Coury’s mix of musicality and story-based lyrics: “Despite its themes of betrayal, dissatisfaction and letdown for its lead singer, the song’s sticking point is an irresistibly buoyant beat that should keep listeners tuned in and dancing.”

Get to know Tino face-to-face in a new video blog above where he recaps his summer tour and updates fans on his forthcoming debut album. Be sure to keep up with him on Twitter and Facebook for daily updates and exclusive content.

Will.i.am Blackface Racial Backlash – PHOTOS

Some people didn’t like this very much…

Will.i.am went black Sharpie crazy and painted his face black at the 2010 MTV VMAs. Twitter went into a small frenzy over the Black Eyed Peas member appearance. The word “racist‘ was tossed around and Us Weekly jumped on the “controversy.”

Will rolled his eyes and took to Twitter to defend his ebony appearance…

“1st. just because I where all black including head mask as expression and emphasize my outfit, it shouldn’t be looked at as racial…
Let go of the past. there are far more important things 2 bark about. (Jobs, health, education) not a black man wearing all black everything
Are you guys serious? my outfit set “black people back 100 yrs” choose your twits wisely. no education sets people back, no jobs, bad health”

Meh, I don’t see any “racial” problems. At first I thought Taylor Momsen had taken her eyeliner encrusted eyes to the next level.

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth Back Together? – PHOTOS

Though they only announced their split on August 25th (read about that here) after a yearlong romance, during and after filming “The Last Song”, which witnessed some tough times with rumors of Miley Cyrus’ flirtations with Adam Sevani (read about that here), her co–star in “LOL: Laughing Out Loud” flying around and Star Magazine’s claims of Liam Hemsworth hooking up with Miley for the sole purpose of boosting his career, the lovebirds broke up. But now the yoyo couple seemed to have already kissed and made up.

Per NYDailyNews:

“Miley and Liam kept smiling and seemed to really enjoy their afternoon together,” a source who saw the pair out and about told People magazine. “They acted like they had missed each other, kept chatting and seemed to be catching up. They definitely seemed like a couple again.

And it seems that rather than hindering her career – as was thought to be the original reason for the break up – Liam is actually helping with Miley’s hectic schedule as friends say Miley seems ‘more relaxed’ and ‘very happy’ now she is back with him. So, how long before we see them breaking up again or this time, is it for keeps?!
