Singer-songwriter Alyssa Bernal, recently discovered from YouTube by super-star producer Pharrell, has released the official music video for her single “Cali Cali Cali.” The song is available now on iTunes as part of her new EP, and will be featured on her Star Trak Records debut In Love Again For the First Time, due out early next year.

I had the chance to speak with Alyssa and ask her about things like her start in the music industry, who she’d love to work with, and some of her goals. Yo can read about that below.

When did you first realize you had an interest in music and what sparked that interest?

I’ve always loved to sing since I was about three, just not in front of people because I’ve always been so shy. When I started to put myself on there, on Youtube, thats when I started having people follow me and gaining a fanbase. People would come up to me and tell me that my cover changed their day and it made me realize that I wanted to do that. I grew to love it.

What drives and inspires you to do what you love?

Just creating music and sharing it with the world. I love to hear peoples reactions and their thoughts when I put my words into music.

Do you find it easy to sing and perform? Does it come naturally for you?

Yes, it’s very east for me. Three years ago I hated it because I was the shyest person in the world. But it’s become more natural to me since I’ve been on tour and performing everyday. Now, I’m not as nervous.

Besides music, what are some of your favorite things to do?

Eat. I love trying different foods. Hanging out with friends, and on a good day I like working out. Going shopping, pretty much everything that every normal teenager likes to do.

If you had the chance to work or record with anyone, who would you choose?

I’d love to work with Jason Mraz because he is one of my main influences. Also Taylor Swift because we’re about the same age and we both play guitar. We’re both singer/songwriters.

How would you describe the sound of your music?

It’s easy-going. Its pop, but it’s also funky and soulful.

How do you feel that you’re different from other artists in your genre?

My music just goes in all sorts of directions. I don’t want to say it sounds different because that sounds so cliche, but just listen to the album and you’ll see why. My songwriting is honest and naive. You can tell that I’m experiencing some things for the first time.

What are some of your short-term and long-term goals you have lined out for yourself?

Short term would be to finish this tour and make it successful. To gain fans and turn people on to my music. Longterm would be to collaborate with all of my influences. I can see myself winning Grammy’s.

What is your favorite song on your upcoming album and why?

I would say it’s “Stay” because its the first song I co-wrote on the album. It’s really personal and the lyrics are honest. It’s melody is gorgeous. Everything is just great about it.

What are your plans for promoting your music and upcoming album?

Another tour, just not sure with who. Hopefully, shooting videos for some songs on the EP. We’ll see!
