At first glance, it would seem like Regis Philbin is retiring because, well, he’s old. The longtime host will celebrate his 80th birthday this year. But actually, age had nothing to do with his decision to hang it up. According to TMZ, Reeg – who is making $18-20 million per year – wanted more money. The show’s producers pointed out that the ratings have not been great and Regis takes too much time off, instead resulting in a paycut. Request denied – So he quit and fired his agent on his way out.
Regis, we’re told, was angry at the offer and that was the trigger for his announcement this week that he’s leaving the show.
Before announcing his decision to leave, Philbin informed co-host Kelly Ripa only 15 minutes before they went on air. At first, Ripa was not angry, but now sources say she’s now livid, claiming it ‘showed a total lack of respect for her.’ Not only is Kelly upset, the “Live” production team is also not happy and felt he damaged the show with the sudden news.
Since when is no money better than more money? Guess it’s a different world for rich folks.

Are you kidding me? He’s upset because of X amount of millions? Or lack of? Really now…..Is he REALLY desperate for money? Doubt it! With probably most of his viewers who can’t afford his ties? shoes? suits? The economy the way it is? Many Americans struggling? losing their jobs, etc? Has he gotten so greedy? It’s really sad. Good! Good by! Reeeeeggg! So long and Good Luck. It’s especially sad since we really always liked you and thought you were so down to earth. Well, it’s time you get off your high horse.
The morning of the annoucement Regis and Kelly talked about an interview they had done TOGETHER the day before in which they laughed about being asked questions about the shows future and trying to skirt around the issue knowing Regis’ retirement annoucement was going to be made the very next day. With that being said It cannot be true that Kelly only found out 15 minutes before the show as she CLEARLY knew the day before.
It makes you really question the rest of this story!?!?!?!
