The latest in Katie Couric buzz: She’ll soon cut a deal with ABC. TMZ reports that CBS is out, having pulled its offer for a daytime syndicated show. Hopes she may have for staying at that network are fading fast as negotiations to launch a daytime show there are said to have broken down.
Sources connected with ABC tell TMZ — under the deal that is in the final stages — Katie would do specials for ABC News, “20/20,” and do a significant amount of fill-in work — including anchoring.
The deal also calls for her to have her own hour-long, syndicated daytime show that would premiere in the fall of 2012. The talk show could take over the timeslot currently held by “General Hospital,” potentially endangering another classic soap with a possible cancellation. Couric had reportedly wanted to continue with CBS News but the network would only offer a limited participation with show “60 Minutes” and “CBS Sunday Morning.” However, CBS could still be a player for Couric if it wants to be. Between now and June 5th when her contract with them formally ends, CBS has the right to match any offer from a competitor. Though the rumor mill is flying, Couric’s rep admits that nothing has been set in stone and no deals have been made.
Do you think this deal will work out?
