As expected, Lindsay Lohan’s attorney, Shawn Holley, entered a no-contest plea today to a misdemeanor grand theft charge. Holley entered the plea on behalf of Lohan, who did not appear in court.
Lohan was previously sentenced to 120 days in jail and 480 hours community service for violating her probation. Not only will she have to complete those, but she was also ordered to complete psychological counseling and an anti-shoplifting program, and Judge Saunter instructed Lindsay Lohan to report to jail on or before June 17th. But – Lohan could avoid spending any time in prison by serving her sentence by being monitored electronically with an ankle bracelet. She will still “be in custody,” but will be in custody in the comfort of her own home. How convenient. No special treatment here. TMZ reports that her actual sentence will likely amount to around 17 days. Lohan is said to be turning herself in on Tuesday to face booking in the case, and at that time, the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department will determine if she’s eligible for home detention.
Once Lindsay completes her 480 hours of community service, her probation in the DUI case will terminate, but Lindsay is now on 3 years probation for the theft — so if she screws up again, she’s screwed.
During the hearing, Judge Sautner said she doesn’t think Lohan’s problem is substance abuse, but rather stems from the her self-medicating to deal with the stress of her problems, which is why she didn’t not order the actress to undergo any further substance-abuse counseling. She was also ordered to not go within 100 feet of the jewelry store. No surprise there. A progress hearing has been set for July 21st.
The Probation Report presented during the hearing also lists the drugs Lindsay has been taking: Trazadone (for depression), Nexium (for heartburn), Yaz (birth control), Zoloft (anti-depressant), Doxycycline (antibiotic), Zyrtec (allergies) and Zythromax (antibiotic). It even reports a failed alcohol test on February 8th, 2011 which was about a month after she left the Betty Ford Clinic.
What are the chances that she can stay out of trouble for three years? Lindsay must be doing someone something right in the LA County Court system to keep getting slaps on the wrist. If overcrowding is an issue, how bout letting the people who have been there the longest out, and for once forcing her to actually serve the sentence she receives. Yet more proof to Lindsay that she does not have to worry about being held responsible for her actions.
