Katie Couric stepped down from her “CBS Evening News” desk several weeks ago, and now she’s moving over to ABC for a daytime talk show in what was one of Hollywood’s worst kept secrets. It’ll be an hour-long syndicated talk show beginning this fall that is hosted by Couric herself.
The untitled talk show will be news based and begins this September of 2011. The President of ABC, Ben Sherwood, said in an email to staff that Couric will join the ABC News team this summer as the ‘ultimate utility player.’ Couric herself seems to be pretty happy with the way things have turned out.
Per Huffington Post:
“It is very gratifying that so many people were willing to meet with me and were interested,” she said. “It made me think maybe a show like this could do reasonably well. We’ll see.”
Couric gained national attention when she became co-host of NBC’s “Today” show in 1991. She left the popular morning show in 2006 to anchor the nightly news for CBS. She was also the first woman ever to anchor a nightly news program.
Congratulations, Katie!
