The 2011 BET Awards suffered some technical difficulties. A fan who won a trip to the awards to announce Coca-Cola Viewers’ Choice Award announced the wrong winner name.
Tiffany Green was left confused after the tablet read Chris Brown had won while the teleprompter informed her that Rihanna had won. She stuttered that Chris had won before correcting herself and apologizing.
“And the winner is… Chris Brown. I’m sorry, Rihanna,” corrected Green, looking furious and unsure.
Drake accepted the award on RiRi’s behalf while Green cried backstage and Tweeted her frustration with the assertion, “They totally f**ked me up!” Chris was the true winner and was given accolade at the end of the night.
“That BET Awards Viewer’s Choice [sic] mix-up was due to human error,” the network’s Stephen G. Hill explained on Twitter. “And I was the human that made that error. I apologize to ALL affected.”
