MTV announced the nominations for the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards last night – I’m excited for the VMA’s coming up in August, but this also means summer is slowly coming to an end! We’re not surprised that Katy Perry and Adele were most nominated… But the VMA’s also reached out to a variety of stars, such as Thirty Seconds to Mars for their video “Hurricane” and the Beastie Boys‘ “Make Some Noise.” But, ummm… what about Rihanna? This is awkward, considering she dominated the pop music video scene with “Only Girl in the World,” “What’s My Name,” and “S & M.” No nominations for The Black Eyed Peas either!
Some ‘little monsters’ are upset Lady Gaga wasn’t nominated for Video of The Year or Best Pop Video, though she made it into Best Female Video. (Is it just me, or does anyone else think Gaga video fame peaked with “Bad Romance” and “Poker Face?”) The epically popular Adele sent the VMA nominators into a tizzy, grabbing up seven nominations and tying with Kanye West. Katy Perry has has a huge year so it’s no shock that she landed the most nominations! She picked up 9 nominations total including Best Pop Video, Best Collaboration, Best Direction, Best Special Effects and the biggest nomination-Video of the year for her hit “Firework.” One of my favorite artists Cee-Lo may be a bit of a dark horse contender compared to Perry, but the “Forget You” video is stellar. I’m glad that Beyonce and LMFAO are both up for best choreography. Still, although Beyonce can rock her bod like nobody’s business, LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem” has shuffling dance zombies. Pretty close call.
