Reports surfaced that Amy Winehouse was in the process of adopting a 10 year girl from St. Lucia this weekend. Many boasting a wicked common sense raised an eyebrow in speculation. Turns out their keen and wary sense of dollar sign fueled news was right.
The Mirror ran with a report that Amy was in the middle of the adoption process before she died in her London home. Little 10 year old Dannika Augustine, who lives in poverty on the Caribbean island, weaved a story of Winehouse’s plans to adopt her and even peppered it with teary admissions that she was already calling her mom.
“Amy was already my mother. I would call her mum and she would call me her daughter. She took care of me and we had fun together. I loved her and she loved me… She was the most amazing person and I was looking forward to living with her here or in London. I cannot believe she is gone. This is the worst thing that ever happened to me.”
Dannika’s grandma also chimed in on the adoption lie. Marjorie Lambert swore on a bank deposit slip that the “Rehab” singer was fully committed to mothering Dannika and added that her parents signed off on the plans.
“Amy used to beg me: ‘I want to adopt Dannika. I want to take her to England.’ She was prepared to move to St. Lucia to be her full-time mum… Amy wanted to have a child so bad. If she had not died, there is no doubt she would be here in St. Lucia completing the adoption process. There is no way she would have done what she did to herself if Dannika was with her.”
A rep for Winehouse has denied the story and only acknowledged the fact that they had met but that was the extent of their relationship.
“It’s not true. I think [Amy] might have met her in St. Lucia, but she was in no way about to adopt her.”
Gammy lying! It’s all sorts of wrong, but Amy wasn’t fit to be in charge of a bag of flour let alone a human being.
