Great House on Necker Island was struck by lightning during a storm in the early hours of the morning. A blazing fire ensued and engulfed the private island home. Around 20 people escaped unharmed from the house belonging to Richard Branson.
The main house was completely destroyed, but everyone got out safely. The list of guests included Kate Winslet who Richard thanked on his blog for helping to save his 90 year old mother.
“We had a tropical storm with winds up to 90mph. A big lightning storm came around 4am and hit the house. My son Sam and nephew Jack rushed to the house and helped get everyone out and many thanks to Kate Winslet for helping to carry my 90 year old mum out of the main house to safety – she was wondering when a Director was going to shout CUT!”
It was a simple act of human decency, but I find it far more compelling than Gwyneth Paltrow’s I Almost Hit a Pedestrian in My Mercedes But Imma Hero! story stretched into a 9/11 life saver story.
