Egads. Taylor Lautnerisn’t doing so well with the critics. ‘Abduction’ is getting dismal reviews and some are blaming it on Lautner’s acting.
The current average rating (as of the moment this is published) the thriller is only getting an average rating of 3.2/10. Just 55% of the audience liked it and only took $10.9 million. (Compare to the $22 million second week re-release gross of ‘The Lion King.’)
Critics are not being shy in voicing their distaste for Lautner’s performance…
New York Times: “To give Mr. Lautner his due, he is a martial-arts dervish with perfectly sculptured abs. His acting, however, is another matter.”
Boston Globe: “The movie is a more objective opportunity to assess Lautner’s potential as a general-purpose action hero once his emo-goth run wraps. You might not want to go betting on that one.”
The Globe and Mail: “Taylor Lautner puts the abs in Abduction, but not much else.”
NY Daily News: “The unveiling of Taylor Lautner, with his marshmallow-valentine face and magazine-cover abs, as an action hero feels like a soda flavor aimed at kids — those wanting a fizzy jolt are the obvious audience.”
USA Today: “Lautner, best known as werewolf Jacob in the Twilight series, has the physicality to star in an action thriller. But his acting range is limited. His face rarely changes expression.”
Everything from the script to the acting was pretty much blamed for the critical flop. Oh well, he will always have ‘Shark Boy and Lava Girl.’
