Tip: Just Ask. Holiday Haggling can be a great last minute shoppers tool. As Christmas approaches, retailers are looking to get rid of holiday stock. You can haggle on just about anything. Furniture is your best bet for talking the price down at this time of year.
*Make sure you are talking to someone who can price adjust, usually a manager. A stock boy will give you a funny look and shrug.
*Smaller stores are more likely to be price flexible than say, Walmart.
*You catch more flies with honey. Don’t be too aggressive, but be willing to walk away and try again another day. Just like with a car purchase, a smile while saying, “I think I will keep shopping around. Thanks for your help anyway. Happy Holidays!” will get you farther than demanding or threatening to leave for a discount.
