Whitney Houston Causing of Death: Drowning ?! UPDATED

There were several stories circulating after the news of Whitney Houston’s death broke. The most repeated rumor was that Whitney was found in the bathtub by a hotel staff member. She called 911, but it was too late.

It looks like that story might have some validity. TMZ has discovered that water was found in her lungs. The medical examiner noted the detail, but has not yet revealed whether or not drowning was the official cause of death. Cops believe that Houston fell asleep/slipped into an unconscious state while in the bathtub and drowned.

Authorities aren’t ruling out the possibility that she was dead before she slipped under the water. It’s no secret that Whitney was said to enjoy a few Xanax before performing to numb any performance jitters. A theory is that she had her Xanax and then took a relaxing bath and either passed out or fell asleep. No coke or other whack drugs were found, but police did find Lorazepam, Valium, Xanax and some sleeping medication in her room according to Radar.

Her mother and cousin, Cissy Houston and Dionne Warwick, insist that they had spoken with Whitney shortly before she was found. While making pre-Grammy party plans they said that everything seemed “fine.”

An official cause of death will not be ruled until her toxicology reports are done. Expect a 4-6 week wait on that.

UPDATE: Rumors are now contradicting the drowning report…

“Whitney Houston’s family was told by L.A. County Coroner officials … the singer did not die from drowning, but rather from what appears to be a combination of Xanax and other prescription drugs mixed with alcohol … this according to family sources.”

It is also being said that it was Whitney’s Aunt who found her lifeless body in the bathtub. Not a hotel staff member.
