Shane Harper’s Self-Titled Debut Album Out Today – Interview

Shane Harper is celebrating both Valentine’s Day and his 19th Birthday today with the official release of his self-titled debut album. The young star recently unveiled the music video for his latest single, “Rocketship,” which is featured on the new album along with “One Step Closer” and 10 other tracks.

Harper’s debut, which is streaming in full at the exclusive Pop Crush listening party, is out now on Deep Well Records (launched by Glee & Rock of Ages Executive Music Producer, Adam Anders) and is available only at any Target.

I recently had the chance to ask Shane some questions about his new album, rituals before a show, and inspirations. You can read about that below.

Tell us about your new album you have coming out — How long have you worked on it?

I’m very excited to finally release my full record! Accumulatively, I have been working on it for a few years.

Did you have a hand in writing the songs on your upcoming album?

I did yes! I wrote on every song except, “Your Love”, which is actually a cover. I feel really blessed to be able to be involved in the creative process!

What is the one song on your new album that has the most meaning, and why?

It’s really impossible to answer this question because each song has something distinctly personal and special in it.

What song on your album are you most excited for your fans to hear?

Probably, “Dancing In The Rain”, because it’s inspired by the iconic musical, ‘Singing In The Rain”. I’ve always loved Gene Kelly! I also think my fans are really going to love, “Flat World”. It’s a little different than what people have heard from me yet.

What are your upcoming plans for promoting your album?

Lots of live shows!

Have you worked with any celebrities that have left you a little star-struck? What celebrity would you like to work with the most?

Yeah, I had the opprotunity to work with Janet Jackson. That was wild. I would love to write a song with John Mayer… or Jason Mraz.

Do you have any superstitions or rituals you go through before a performance?

I always say a prayer with my band… and we always walk on stage just slightly late.

What is your favorite and your least favorite song to perform?

I definitely don’t really have a least favorite. I love performing all of them!

What drives and inspires you to do what you love?

I’m inspired by God, life, and people.

How do you balance your music career with personal relationships?

I just have to make time for the people that are important to me!
