Every film has its mistakes. Continuity is a top offender, but sometimes factual elements sneak in. Let’s nitpick those and see if you caught them in theaters. These could be spoiler-ish so this is your obligatory SPOILER ALERT.
*When Katniss, Peeta and Cato are on top of the Cornucopia near the end of the film, she aims an arrow at Cato while he has Peeta in a headlock. Katniss has her arrow fletchings on backwards. This would prevent her from shooting straight.
*While Katniss is hiding/sleeping in a tree before the fire corals her into the path of the Careers, her sleeping bag vanishes in and out of the scene.
*There is no cannon fire to alert the Hunger Games participants that Rue and her killer, Marvel, have died.
*While Katniss is alone in her suite, she is looking at different types of scenery in the windows. The remote she uses disappears and reappears in her hand through the scene.
*As the 12 chariots carrying the tributes roll through the stadium, fans throw flowers as they pass. When all the chariots have reached the end of the roadway, an overhead shot reveals a clean and spotless runway.
*After Katniss wades across water to find Peeta, her legs are soaking wet up past her thighs. When she discovers the blood trail she is completely dry.
*In the same scene that has Cato, Peeta and Katniss on top of the cornucopia, blood stains seen on Cato’s hand disappears and reappears as the camera switches focus to and from Katniss.
*Peeta throws the giant metal ball to win intimidation as Clove, Cato and Marvel watch. After they see him toss the ball, Clove and Glimmer have switched places.
*The number of arrows available for Katniss to use while being evaluated changes. She is given four, uses one and misses her target. She turns back to grab another arrow and four arrows are still available for her to use.
*When Peeta smears the cream on Katniss’ cut she received while getting the medicine at The Feast, he wipes away the wound makeup making it look like the it is days old/healed.
The one about the arrow is wrong. She had five arrows available. She grabs one when she picks up the bow, before she talk to them. You can see it when she’s walking to the room.
Sorry, but you got that one wrong…
You missed one! When Peeta tells Katniss he’ll take the bow before Foxface dies, Katniss’ cut on her forehead changes sides!
Thanks Yasemin! It’s hard to spot them all. I noticed a lot of continuity issues with Katniss’ hair through the film too.

the scene where katniss says goodbye to prim and her mother you can tell where two shots were put together because one shot stops for a very brief second while the other one starts
There’s also another movie mistake, it’s when they’re at the reaping and when Katniss is getting held back {by the peacekeepers} her hair looks messy but when the camera focus’ back on her, her hair is neat again!
Yes! I am glad I am not the only one who noticed. Despite all the mistakes (all films have them) it was still really good.
Jennifer Lawrence said that her stunt double waded through the water for her… yet she had to fall out of a tree… that’s why her pants weren’t wet.
Wow! I actually didn’t notice many of these, but next time I watch it I’ll be so wary of them. Although my friend was talking to me about the movie and she said that at the end when Katniss and Peeta are going on their victory tour, when Katniss is waving there is a mysterious hand placed on her hip, did anyone else see that or was she imagining it?
Maybe the stunt double did the water bit because Lawrence is made of sugar…?
Actually…most of the claims on your list are wrong.
1) There is nothing wrong with the way Katniss is holding the arrow at the end, and the position stays consistent.
2) Katniss’ sleeping bag is in the scene at night, but gone by morning. There is plenty of time for her to pack the bag up.
3) The scenery remote never disappears from her hand. It’s translucent, so a bit hard to see, but it’s definitely there.
3) Katniss’ pants are clearly wet after she walks through the river. They are still wet when Peeta grabs her leg.
5) Clove is with Cato/Marvel when Peeta falls from the net. Glimmer is with Cato/Marvel when Peeta throws the ball. However, there is a sequence in between in which Peeta stands up and grabs the ball from the rack. There is plenty of time for Clove to walk away and Glimmer to walk up. This is not necessarily a continuity error. However, there is an error in the scene involving arm position. For instance, in the wide shot, Cato’s arms are at his side, but it immediately cuts to a medium shot where Cato’s arms are crossed.
6) When Katniss enters her evaluation, there are clearly FIVE arrows on the rack. She uses one and misses. She takes another (out of four) and hits the target. Then she takes another (out of three) and hits the apple. There are two arrows left on the rack when she exits.
7) I don’t know about the wound medicine scene making the cut look old…but there is a Katniss head-wound continuity error that appears after the medicine heals her. The following scenes have Katniss’ head wound alternate from open cut to closed cut.
But, you’re spot-on about the flowers/runway and lack of cannon for Rue/Marvel (probably artistic intent). I’m not sure about the Cato hand-blood…I’m usually too fascinated by the mutt claw marks on his face.
BONUS continuity errors:
1) The number of arrows Katniss has at the end of the movie is incorrect. When she’s on top of the Cornucopia, she has four. Two are shot at Cato. When she descends from the Cornucopia, she should have two. Instead, she has one.
2) During the tracker jacker scene, Peeta is initially shown sleeping near Marvel. However, he completely disappears from the ground during all the subsequent shots, even though his supposed sleeping spot is revealed several times.
3) One part that really bugs me is when the faces are projected in the sky on the first night. The last person they show is from District 9. However, the girl from 10 is also dead by this point. They also only show one person from D9, when both tributes from the district are dead. Everyone should be dead except D1, D2, the boy from D3, the girl from D5, the girl from D8, the boy from D10, D11, and D12.
4) During the feast, all evidence of the blown-up Career stash and the entry platforms has been removed. Instead, there is a clear grassy field. There was enough time for the Gamemakers to clean up, though, I guess.
5) When Katniss is aiming at the apples, she draws her bow back twice with the same arrow (repeating action).
6) When Katniss sees Thresh’s face in the sky, she closes her mouth twice (repeating action).
…and one of my favorites:
7) In the Capitol, we see an old woman dressed in black conversing with a few young men. Days later, the same woman in the same outfit can be spied in the audience of Ceaser’s broadcast. She could just be wearing the same outfit everyday, though. Maybe it’s a Capitol thing
Ha, sorry about the long response. This article confused me because I was pretty sure it was wrong, but I wasn’t 100% sure. So, I went to see the movie again and paid special attention to all your claims. Thanks for making the experience more interactive
Sorry, Liz but most of these are RIGHT.
1) It’s not the way she is holding the arrow at the end. It’s the fletchings (the feather looking thins and the back of an arrow) that are on backward, as pointed out in the article. Try reading everything first.
2) The sleeping bag appears and reappears during one specific scene, not the overnight scene…once again as pointed out in the article.
3) The remote could be up for debate. I don’t see it in several shots. It’s just for a moment, but I think it gets lost in editing.
4) The arrows seem to be right, but I thought I miscounted at one point. It’s hard to see without being able to pause! (Just one more reason I can’t wait for the dvd!)

Yea, the fletchings are totally on wrong. I hunt, prefer rifles because they are easier, but that arrow wouldn’t fly right with those on like that.
I just saw the movie AGAIN today, and
1) There are 5 arrows at the beginning;
2)The remote is visible! It’s translucent, so it’s hard to see, but it’s definitely there!
3) Her pants are wet. And she didn’t find Peeta immediately. And it was hot, so the pants were able to dry.
4) The cannon on Rue’s death isn’t there, but they gave more attention to the sentimental part. And for me, it was beautiful. Every time I saw that scene, it brought a tear to my eyes.
And I found more, but whatever! The movie is great and if you’re paying attention to that stuff you’ll never enjoy the movie 100%…

Thank you for pointing those 10 mistakes. With the DVD already out, I could check those you mentioned as well.
And there was no cannon for Rue and Marvel because The sound in the Movie at that point is nearly muted. All you can hear is katniss screaming. In the book katniss barely registers the fact that the cannon sounds so it wasn’t necessicary for the movie
