The show didn’t exactly deliver last season. By the end of its American debut, ratings were in the 3.4 range and had about half the viewers that Simon Cowell promised. The former ‘American Idol’ honcho once considered anything less than a 20 million strong audience a “disappointment.” The average numbers were in the 11 million range. (These numbers aren’t anything to send back to the kitchen and most networks would kick puppies for this kind of viewership, but they still failed to impress Fox.)
President Obama on ‘American Idol?’ Yes, we are serious, it could be a possibility! After the President’s brief rendition of “Let’s Stay Together” – Idol producer Nigel Lythgoe was so impressed that he tweeted Obama and asked if he would perform a duet on the show with Al Green.
After Paula Abdul packed up her boot flask and sashayed out of the back door of ‘American Idol,’ the show began to circle the proverbial U-bend. Much of America lost interest without anyone to drunkenly mumble “Datsssh! Good singing! Be nicccce Simohn!” Even Simon Cowell missed her, got the sads, left the show to do ‘X-Factor’ and rehired her to be at his side. Apparently the reunited honeymoon is over and Abdul is once again out of a job.
Steve Jones, Nicole Scherzinger and Paula will NOT be returning to the talent show next season. According to Deadline they were all fired in spring cleaning style.
Simon Cowell isn’t the nicest guy or at least that’s how I perceive him when watching him on the ‘X Factor.’ He just tells the contestants like it is and doesn’t think twice about hurting someones feelings. Maybe his ‘too honest’ personality also plays a part in his relationship turmoil. Simon got engaged last year to girlfriend Mezhgan Hussainy, but now it seems the wedding is off. The couple is calling it a break and not a split, but come on!
‘American Idol’ has lost its commanding hold on ratings. The premiere suffered a 24% drop compared to last year’s season opener.
The 11th season of Idol had the biggest year-over-year downfall. The Ryan Seacrest fueled show still won the night for Fox. It isn’t unexpected. The absence of the original judging panel, sans Randy Jackson, and the lure of the replacements gone, the show is the same mess reheated. According to EW, it peaked in 2007 and has seen a yearly decline since with only one influx of interest when Ellen DeGeneres briefly joined the panel.

After months of speculation, it’s official – Howard Stern is joining ‘America’s Got Talent!’ According to TMZ, the shock jock confirmed on his radio show this morning that he’ll be replacing Piers Morgan on the hit competition show. Production on the show will move to New York City, where Stern will continue to conduct his SiriusXM radio program (so not only did Stern get the job, he got the whole show to come to him).
~What Twilight actor had a bunch of the movie posters cut up so they only have his picture remaining. He then uses them as the base for when people snort coke at his house. He says that he loves people snorting coke off his body. [CD&N]

American Idol finalist Haley Reinhart has just debuted her new video for “Baby, It’s Cold Outside”, a jazzy rendition of the holiday classic featuring fellow Idol alum Casey Abrams. The video, which premiered today on Yahoo, takes a behind the scenes look at the pair in the studio recording the track, which was produced by Busbee (Kelly Clarkson, Katy Perry) at Conway Studios in Los Angeles.
