THE #1 MOST PLAYED SONG OF 2009 ON THE TOP 40 CHARTS

Congratulations are in order to the band “The All American Rejects” who close out 2009 with the most played song of they year on the Billboard’s Top 40 Chart for their song “Gives You Hell,” edging out their fierce competition that includes Lady Gaga, The Black Eyed Peas, and even Taylor Swift!

The Los Angeles Times proclaims, “Kick-start rockers like the gleeful kiss-off ‘Gives You Hell’” is “Relentlessly hooky” and “Time immortal.”

“’Gives You Hell’ is the first single off When the World Comes Down, the band’s third full-length, and it’s just as snotty as pop-punk needs to be with anthemic major-key riffs, angst-laden lyrics and a driving 4/4 beat.”Artist Direct

“’Gives You Hell’ is filled with a cleverly snarky attitude. The attitude of “Dirty Little Secret” is here in full force, and you will likely find yourself singing along. If the chorus wasn’t catchy enough, the band accents the point with a crowd singalong to close out the track.”Absolute Punk.net

“Gives You Hell” spent four weeks at #1 on the Top 40 charts making it the group’s first #1 song on Mainstream Top 40 and Adult Top 40 Tracks charts. The song was also their first to break into the top five on Billboard’s Hot 100 and stayed in the Billboard Top 10 for over 13 weeks. “Gives You Hell” the band’s most successful single to date with over 3.3 million copies in digital sales alone. “The All American Rejects” first scored commercial success with the single, “Swing Swing” from their self-titled debut album. The album went on to sell over one million records and was certified platinum. The second album produced the smash hits, “Dirty Little Secret,” “It Ends Tonight,” and the LP’s inspiring anthemic title track “Move Along.” All three songs reached top ten on the Billboard Hot 100 and went double platinum as did the overall album.

“We are thrilled that we have been played relentlessly over the past year, hopefully people aren’t too sick of us by now,” said Rejects front man Tyson Ritter. “But truly, we have the best fans in the world. It’s because of them that this band is where we are. They are the ones who kept our song on the charts and on the radio for so long and we thank them.”

The successes of 2009 have paved the way for an exciting 2010 for The All-American Rejects. The band has scored major appearances such as performing at this year’s Winter Olympics at the Whistler Medals Plaza, a high profile performance for Direct TV at Super Bowl XLIV, and a Direct TV special set to air in February with more exciting news and details to be announced later. The band is currently on a whirlwind tour promoting their third studio album “When The World Comes Down.” For more information and current tour dates please visit their website.

New Music Friday – The Script

The Script is a three-piece Irish pop rock band from Dublin, Ireland consisting of members Danny O’Donoghue, Mark Sheehan, and Glen Power. They are a whole new brand of celtic soul, blending ‘hip hop lyrical flow with pop melodiousness, state-of-the-art R’n'B production with anthemic rock dynamics, classic song construction with gritty contemporary narratives.’

Per Total Assault:

“Irish people have soul,” according to Danny. “It comes from generations of pain, and generations of understanding emotion to be able to physically get that in a solid sound.”

The Script received an award at the World Music Awards for ‘Best Selling Irish Act‘ of 2008, and the ‘Best Band‘ award at the BalconyTV Music Video Awards 2008. They were also nominated for a number of awards at the 2009 Meteor Ireland Music Awards along with a nomination for ‘Best Album‘ at the Choice Music Prize. After reaching #15 on the charts with their debut single “We Cry,” their 2nd single “The Man Who Can’t Be Moved” hit the #2 spot. Their debut album, “The Script,” was released in August 2008 and went straight to #1 on iTunes UK & Ireland. Their 3rd single “Breakeven” was released in November 2008, and have just released the video for the single. They are currently on tour with American Idol’s Season 7 Winner David Cook, but will take time out of their busy schedule to make appearances on “It’s On With Alexa Chung” on November 16th and “The Late Show with David Letterman” on November 17th.

Check out the video for “Breakeven” above, and then swing by iTunes to pick up their self-titled debut album. I love this song. If you have ever been through a bad breakup – and honestly, who hasn’t? – then you can relate to this song. Its beautiful and it touches me – possibly because it speaks the truth.

Backstreet Boys Brian Litrell Diagnosed With Swine Flu

The Backstreet Boys were forced to cancel a meet and greet in NYC after member Brian Littrell was diagnosed with the swine flu. A rep for the band told the press that the remaining boybanders – Nick Carter, Howie Dorough and AJ McLean – have all met with a doctor and so far are okay. The boys and their touring party, who had just returned to the states from Tokyo, have been prescribed Tamiflu as a preventive measure.

Per Backstreet Boys:

“We were really looking forward to spending time with our closest fans and friends in NYC and take part of PINKTOBER, an unbelievable and important program” Littrell says. “I hope we can come back soon and do everything we can to help.”

Littrell made a special YouTube message for his fans to break the news to them and to apologize that the band had to cancel their upcoming appearances. The sickness also forced the cancellation of the groups CBS Early Show performance this morning, where they were scheduled to perform their new single, “Straight Through My Heart.” The intimate performance at PC Richards has also been cancelled and rescheduled for a later date. The groups new album “This Is Us” drops today and they had a whole bunch in-store and TV appearances lined up to promote it. The rest of the promotional schedule for this week has not been determined.

Poor guy looks awful! Hope you feel better soon!
