Jennifer Aniston Blasted For Using The Word ‘Retard’ – Video

See folks, THIS is what happens when you don’t think before you speak! Jennifer Aniston has been criticized by disability groups after using the word ‘retard’ in reference to a recent photo shoot in which she posed as Barbra Streisand (see those pictures here) while on “Live With Regis & Kelly.”

Per Us:

“You’re playing dress up!” Regis told her. She replied, “Yes, I play dress up! I do it for a living, like a retard!”

So, harmless self-deprecation or unbelievably insensitive attack? Depends on who you ask. Peter Berns, CEO of The Arc, a non-profit group who support those with intellectual and developmental disabilities said the use of the word was “extraordinarily offensive and inappropriate.”

“Frankly, someone in her position ought to know better,” he tells Us. “She is using language that is offensive to a large segment of the population in this country. We estimate that there are probably in excess of 5 million people in the country with intellectual disabilities, and when you think about all of them, their family members and friends, you’re talking about tens of millions of people who find the use of that term to be really offensive. Every time folks hear that word, it kind of reminds them of all the discrimination and oppression they’ve experienced in their lives. Even if it wasn’t intended to insult them, that is the effect of it.”

Since promoting her romantic comedy about artificial insemination, “The Switch,” Aniston has also tangled with Bill O’Reilly of Fox’s “The O’Reilly Factor,” who took exception with Aniston’s comment that women don’t necessarily need a man in their lives to start a family. O’Reilly blasted Aniston for the remarks calling them ‘destructive to our society’ (read about that here.)

At this point, we’re thinking the end of the promotional trail can’t come soon enough for Aniston.

Jennifer Aniston’s Barbra Streisand Spread – PHOTOS

Umm…I am not sure what to think of these other than if Sarah Jessica Parker, that skinny queen who matinees at Club Tang and Babs all mated…this would be the result.

Jennifer Aniston did a throw-back spread honoring the glory of Barbra Streisand for Harpers Bazaar.

On wanting Streisand‘s voice: “Someone said to me, ‘If I had Barbra’s voice for just one day,’ and I said, ‘Nah, I don’t want to be greedy. If I had her voice for just one shower — just a shower’s worth — I would be happy.’” If so, perhaps it’s worth forgetting modesty and selling tickets. “Hmm, no,” she laughs. “Well, actually, if it was her voice …”

On being a funny girl: “People laugh at me. Sometimes I know why, and sometimes I don’t. But I can pretty much find humor in anything. That is a necessary part of life. I don’t want to say laughter is healing, because it sounds corny, but it’s a release.”

On what she’s learned from Barbra Streisand: “You don’t have to stop at one thing. You can do it all if you want to.”

On being in the spotlight: “[Barbra and I] are people who have been put in the spotlight, for better or for worse, and you just keep riding, and you keep overcoming.”

On looking up to Streisand: “Barbra inspires me because there isn’t anything she hasn’t done that she wanted to do, especially as a female in the time when her generation was prime. She’s a true renais¬sance woman. . . I had a long conversation with Barbra about directing because I directed a short a couple years ago, and if I don’t do it again soon, I’m going to burst out of my skin. And we also love interior design.”

More comparisons: “Also, we are people who have been put in the spotlight, for better or for worse, and you just keep riding, and you keep overcoming, and you just stay true to what you love to do.”

On people laughing at her: “People laugh at me. Sometimes I know why, and sometimes I don’t. But I can pretty much find humor in anything. That is a necessary part of life. I don’t want to say laughter is healing, because it sounds corny, but it’s a release.”

Well kittens, at least she is naked or talking about jazzercising to Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” or her plot to kidnap Brad Pitt. (Click HERE for OK mag’s story on her Bradnapping.

Princess Diana Named Queen of the Gay Community

Britain’s late Princess Diana has been declared a Gay Icon by a panel of 10 homosexual men and women, including Elton John, Billie Jean King, and Sir Ian McKellen. They nominated the Princess of Wales as someone who “inspired them and helped shaped who they have become.” She was chosen by Waheed Alli, and executive TV producer and a member of the “House of Lords.”

Per GayWired:

“There’s no such thing as a gay community any more than there’s a straight community. Gay people are as disparate as any other group.” an organizer notes.

Photographs of the inspirational public figures will appear in a new exhibition due to open in July at the “London’s National Portrait Gallery.” While the gallery is holding back the full list of honorees until closer to the opening, former South African President Nelson Mandela was also named, along with singer K.D. Lang, entertainer Ellen DeGeneres, and politician Harvey Milk.

Per Bloomberg:

“We’re very clear that this is an exhibition for everybody,” said the gallery’s director, Sandy Nairne, at a press breakfast. “We want to get out to people who didn’t think they’d want to see it.”

Noticeably absent from this collection are Joan Crawford, Mae West, Judy Garland, Liza Minnelli, Bette Midler, Joan Collins, Kylie Minogue, Dame Shirley Bassey, Oscar Wilde, Marlene Dietrich, Bette Davis, and Barbra Streisand. Because the portraits in the show had to be photographs, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, William Shakespeare and Alexander the Great were also ruled out. The exhibition is set to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the Stonewall riots in New York and will take place at the National Portrait Gallery from July 2 to October 18.
