New Music Friday – All Time Low

Pop-punk foursome “All Time Low” formed in Baltimore in 2003 around singer/guitarist Alex Gaskarth and guitarist Jack Barakat before adding bassist Zack Merrick and drummer Rian Dawson to round out their band and rowdy live show, which often included silly string and beach balls. Balancing homework and other teenage adventures, the guys managed to tour across the east coast and the south during school breaks. They released the four-song EP “The Three Words to Remember in Dealing with the End” through the local label “Emerald Moon” in 2004 and followed up with a full-length album, “The Party Scene,” a year later. Before graduating high school in 2006, they signed a record deal with “Hopeless Records” and re-recorded songs from their debut album and included two new songs for their EP “Put Up or Shut Up.” The EP entered both the Top Independent Albums and Top Heatseekers charts. They’ve shared the stage with national headliners such as Motion City Soundtrack, Acceptance, The Early November, The Receiving End of Sirens, The Academy Is…, Plain White T’s, Spitalfied, and many more.

In 2007, All Time Low released “So Wrong, It’s Right,” which entered the Billboard 200 at number 62. The band was eventually selected as Alternative Press Magazine’s “Band of the Year” for 2008. While writing for a third album, they collaborated with Blink-182 bassist Mark Hoppus and a host of other producers. Their third album “Nothing Personal” was released in July, debuting at number four on the Billboard 200. It was revealed in November 2009 that the band had signed to major label “Interscope Records.” The band also announced that they would have a song featuring on the soundtrack for the upcoming film “Alice in Wonderland.”

Damned If I Do Ya (Damned If I Don’t)” is the second single from their new studio album, reaching as high as #21 on iTunes during its first week of availability. It also became their first Hot 100 charting song, debuting at #67. You can view the video above.

Pete Wentz Shaved Head – Photos and Video

Mark Hoppus, of Blink 182, shaved the head of Pete Wentz on stage during Saturday’s concert. The Fall Out Boy stunned fans by letting Hoppus mow down his emo flat ironed locks during the band’s gig at Madison Square Garden. As Petey cried sad mascara filled tears, the band played on.

I’m sure stocks in Revlon just plummeted.

Its with heavy hearts that we must announce the passing of another musical artist. Adam Goldstein, more famously known as DJ AM, was found dead in his New York City apartment on Friday afternoon. The cause of death is still unknown at this time but a source claims drug paraphernalia, such as a pipe commonly used to smoke drugs, and prescription drug bottles were found in the apartment next to his body.

A friend reportedly arrived at Adam’s apartment to check on him after not hearing from him for a few days, but got no response after knocking on his door. The friend then called the police, who entered and found his body. He was only 36 years old. His last public appearance was this past Sunday at Citi Field in NYC where he threw out the first pitch at a Mets game. He last updated his personal Twitter on Tuesday with a chilling lyric from the opening line to the famous Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five song “New York, New York.”

Per DJ AM’s Twitter:

“New york, new york. Big city of dreams, but everything in new york aint always what it seems.”

Goldstein had previously been battling drug addiction and even had a show on the MTV network to help out those who were struggling with drugs. He was very popular on the celebrity circuit as he was frequently booked for high profile parties and celebrations. Goldstein was once engaged to Nicole Richie and also dated Mandy Moore on and off for several years. A year ago, he suffered severe burns when the Learjet carrying him and Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker crashed near a runway in South Carolina, killing 4 people, heading to California.

Tonight Goldstein was supposed to be deejaying at Rain in Las Vegas, Nevada. No additional details regarding Adam Goldstein’s death have been revealed, as the story is still developing. Our deepest sympathies and condolences go out to his family and friends during this tragic time.

Blink 182 is Back!

The three members of the Southern California pop-punk band Blink-182 announced they are getting back together, big news considering their 2005 breakup ended a run of platinum-selling albums. Tom DeLong, Mark Hoppus, and Travis Barker made the announcement last night during the Grammy Awards. The band has been officially on hiatus since February 2005 after what DeLonge described in an in-depth interview with the San Diego Union-Tribune as a “major blowout.” Since then DeLonge has gone on to form the band Angels & Airwaves, while Hoppus and Barker put together the band +44.

Per Rolling Stone:

“Isn’t it great to see the Jonas Brothers and Stevie Wonder back together again,” Blink-182’s Mark Hoppus joked as his band — together again — took the stage at the Grammy Awards to present the trophy for Best Rock Album to Coldplay. “We used to play music together, and we decided to play music together once again,” added Travis Barker. The bottom line: “Blink-182 is back.”

In November 2008, after the plane crash in South Carolina that left 4 people dead and nearly killed Barker and his friend DJ AM, Hoppus blogged that the trio had resumed talking. Barker, the band’s drummer, has since indicated that the plane crash was a large factor in the decision to reunite with his friends and band mates.

Per Rolling Stone:

“In the midst of everything else that has happened lately, Tom, Travis, and I have all spoken together,” he wrote. “First through a number of phone calls, and then a couple of weeks ago we all hung out for a few hours. … We’re just reconnecting as friends after four years of not talking.”

Along with announcing the return of Blink 182, they also took the stage to remind fans why they were missed so much in the first place. The band rocked the stage to perform one of Blink 182’s classic hits “What’s My Age Again.” After the Grammys, an official announcement from the band was released:

Per Rolling Stone:

“Hi. We’re blink-182. This past week there’ve been a lot of questions about the current status of the band, and we wanted you to hear it straight from us. To put it simply, We’re back. We mean, really back. Picking up where we left off and then some. In the studio writing and recording a new album. Preparing to tour the world yet again. Friendships reformed. 17 years deep in our legacy. Summer 2009. Thanks and get ready…”

The return of Blink 182 is being very well received among fans who were shocked when the band split in early 2005. Fans have been eager for the band to reunite, me included! “New Moon” and a Blink 182 record — 2009 is going to be a great year!
