Bret Michaels underwent heart surgery in Arizona yesterday to repair a small hole doctors found in his heart back in April of last year. Doctors says he is recovering well after the surgery and hope that the repair will save him from future strokes.

Per Reuters:

Michaels, frontman for the band Poison, was recovering from the Monday surgery at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center’s intensive care unit, spokeswoman Carmelle Malkovich told Reuters. She declined to release any additional information.

Michaels almost died last year after a brain hemorrhage, which is how doctors found out about the problem in his heart. To repair the heart problem, doctors inserted a catheter into his groin, and aided by cameras, guided a device into his heart to close the hole. It will remain in his body permanently.
