Yesterday we were treated to another ‘The Dark Knight Rises‘ movie poster that looked like a photoshopped copy of the first promo pic. It was underwhelming, but six more TDKR treats have hit.
The plot details for ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ are in the vault of Christopher Nolan. Some tidbits have made their way to the net including pics of Christian Bale and Tom Hardy (as Bane) filming a fight in the streets, Anne Hathaway in her Catwoman gear and photos of Wayne Manor.
We are left to guess whether or not rumors have any validity. Bane was the first Batman nemesis to make an official appearance, but Catwoman remained a big mystery for awhile. Now that we have pics of Anne in her tight leather getup, more details of her character have followed.
Marion Cotillard has been cast alongside a few of her ‘Inception’ co-stars in the third Batman film. We first learned that Tom Hardy would be portraying Bane, the super intelligent/strong villain. Next Anne Hathaway scored the much sought after Catwoman role. Joseph Gordon Levitt was then revealed to have joined the cast as The Holiday Killer. He was also rumored to be attached to the role of The Riddler, but both notions were wrong.
The official cast for the third installment of Christopher Nolan’s ‘Batman’ series is finally taking shape. Another name has been added to the list of villains the superhero will take on in the third Batman film, ‘The Dark Knight Rises.’
Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine have been locked down while the rest of the ensemble has seen every rumor from Eddie Murphy being given the role of The Riddler to Angelina Jolie as Catwoman.
As Nolan finalizes the script, casting for ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ has finally gotten serious. Joseph Gordon Levitt has officially joined the lineup after he was rumored to be auditioning and a serious contender. IMBD had him listed as a credited cast several months ago before removing his name from the lineup.
Levitt has returned to the list and is said to have nabbed the role of Alberto Falcone aka The Holiday Killer. Initial rumors attached him to the role of The Riddler, but soon changed direction and rumbled that he would be Robin. I recalled Nolan promising that Robin would not make an appearance in his Batman reboots. So that one was obviously a miss, but according to Variety, Joseph will be portraying mafia boss Carmine Falcone’s outcast son. The character in the comic books targets Gotham City criminals and murders them on holidays.
Anne Hathaway was given the coveted role of Catwoman, but Marion Cotillard’s name is also attached to the project as a rumored new love interest. If Marion does join the film, it would reunite 3 members of Nolan’s other box office hit, ‘Inception.’ Tom Hardy was the first to join Bale, Oldman, Freeman and Caine. The teenage model turned actor was announced to be playing Bane. According to IMBD’s character description, he is one of Batman’s “most deadly and powerful foes” who boasts strength and a high IQ. He is also one of the very few villains who figures out the caped crusader’s real identity. (If you saw the 1997 franchise film…he was Poison Ivy’s henchman.)
With the news of Levitt joining the film, another casting rumor is thrown into the mix. Juno Temple is said to be up for a supporting role as a “street-smart Gotham girl.”
Mah new boo is not out of the Batman casting race just yet. Rumors were heavy with the insistence that Joseph Gordon-Levitt was thisclose‘ to nabbing the ‘Dark Knight Rises‘ villain role. Tom Hardy swooped in and won the prize as Batman’s new foe, Bane. Anne Hathaway will also play siren/villainess, Catwoman. Christopher Nolan also stated that The Riddler would not be one of comic book based bad guys.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt may be in the third installment of Nolan’s Batman films. Deadline is reporting that source-types are adamant that Levitt will be in the film.
“Joseph Gordon-Levitt is in talks to reunite with his Inception director Christopher Nolan in The Dark Knight Rises for Warner Bros. I’m not sure what role he’ll play, but I’m told that he will be in the movie when Nolan starts production this spring.”
Based on the fact two antagonists have been cast, Nolan’s Riddler rule out and Robin no-go, I think he will be a good guy of some kind. Thoughts?

The third installment to Christopher Nolan’s Batman film has been given a title. Batman 3 is officially ‘The Dark Knight Rises.”
Thousands of rumors have been associated with the anticipated film. Casting has seen a plethora of big names attached to various villainous roles including Catwoman and The Riddler as the two main contenders. IMBD even went as far as to dub Joseph Gordon-Levitt as having nabbed the Riddler role. That has since been removed with and replaced with another casting rumor of Tom Hardy as Det. Harvey Bullock.
Finally we have some concrete hints confirmed by Nolan. The director has nixed the villain The Riddler from the list of possible Batman nemeses. (He also cut Mr.Freeze off the list earlier this year.) All he would admit beyond the fact that Edward Nigma would not be a character is that new players would be introduced which pulls on my no shiz cord.
“We’ll use many of the same characters as we have all along, and we’ll be introducing some new ones.”
He also confirmed that the third film would not be shot and produced in 3-D. Instead, he is going for the IMAX/high def approach.
As for my personal theory, Harvey Dent (aka Two Face) returning isn’t completely out. When asked if Dent would somehow return to terrorize Batman he merely stated: “Oh, you know me, I don’t talk.” Catwoman isn’t out either. In fact, Chris is said to be hunting for a female lead in “her late 20’s to early 30’s” for a role.
The title leaves me a bit underwhelmed, but I think he has a lot of clout and expectations to rise to after the success of ‘Dark Knight.’
Professor Whore Whore Face (thanks Michael K) will not be squeezing into pleather and prancing around in a dance of the feline for Batman.
Rumors running amok yesterday stated that Megan Fox would be the next in line to play Catwoman. The Sun apparently jumped the gun on the announcement as Warner Brothers called them out and said it was all false.
“It’s rumor. It’s not true,” said a studio rep. “There is no script. There is no project to be cast in.”
Rumors of a third “Batman” film have been stewing since the wrap of “The Dark Knight.” Christopher Nolan’s second adaptation grossed over $1 billion in sales on the eve of the Oscars. So it’s no surprise that a third installment. Casting rumors have been floating around for awhile. Johnny Depp was said to be signed on as The Riddler, Philip Seymour Hoffman was set to be the Penguin and (my theory) Maggie Gyllenhaal would reprise in the saga as a reincarnated Catwoman. Gary Oldman, who plays the commissioner for Gotham, hinted at a “Dark Knight” sequel Comic-Con this year stating:
“I think the next ‘Batman’ is next year. We start shooting next year,” he said. Of course, he did go on to add, “You didn’t hear that from me.”
Typically Batman films bore me horizontal. However, these most recent attempts at the superhero films I really enjoyed. (Sans Christian Bale’s odd lisp he develops when speaking as Batman. Am I the only one that bothers?)

File this one under the same “Will-Never-Happen” file as Lisa Rinna’s Playboy dream.
Since “The Dark Knight” is on it’s way to reaching the 1 billion dollar marker, it is safe to say that another addition to the revamped Batman series is unavoidable. Christopher Nolan, the man behind both “Batman Begins” and “The Dark Knight,” hasn’t confirmed his dedication to another superhero film, but I have a feeling the movie will be done with or without him.
Rumors as to who will be playing what nemesis have be bouncing around since the release of the second installment. Angelina Jolie was said to be Catwoman but that rumor gave way to Cher taking the role. Then a small blip in the feline foe story stated that Judi Dench scored the spot. All of which proved to be pure stupidity. Jolie would have required Cambodian children featured in at least 12 scenes and Batman writing fat checks to buy them porridge. The thought of Cher lubing herself up and sliding into latex and then prancing around in the jumbo screen on IMAX is simply horrifying. Same for Dench.
Casting hasn’t even been legitimately touched, let alone a plot. Rumors that the next segment will involve The Riddler and Catwoman are unwavering. The original sequel casting was adamant that Johnny Depp would be undertaking the role. Now…this lunacy surfaces. Eddie Murphy is said to have scored the role despite the fact that no concrete evidence that the project is actually underway.
The Sun states:
FUNNYMAN EDDIE MURPHY will play The Riddler in the next Batman movie, The Sun can reveal. The Beverly Hills Cop star, 47, has been signed up by British director CHRISTOPHER NOLAN to reprise the role played by JIM CARREY in 1995’s Batman Forever. The surprise move follows speculation linking Pirates of the Caribbean star JOHNNY DEPP to the part.
The film, set for a 2010 release, is being developed under the working title Gotham.Execs have also signed up rising Transformers star SHIA LABEOUF, 22, to play Robin. CHRISTIAN BALE will return as Bruce Wayne, while MICHAEL CAINE will again play Bruce’s assistant Alfred. Meanwhile, Brit RACHEL WEISZ is said to be up for the Catwoman role.
I call caca on this story. First….in doing my research on the subject, I have found that both Christian Bale and Christopher Nolan have confirmed that they would NOT be adding the “Robin” factor to the films. During several interviews Bale expresses his distaste for the sidekick.
“If Robin crops up in one of the new Batman films, I’ll be chaining myself up somewhere and refusing to go to work.”
Never say never…but from a logical stand point why would you trade your main star for Shia as Robin? That is like saying…Sorry Johnny Depp hotness…we are replacing you with this Pee Wee Herman bobble head. The only way I will buy this as fact is if “Batman 3” will include 8 other super villains whose powers involve a stereotype like fried chicken and waffles and each of them were played by Eddie Murphy in fat suits.
