Joseph Gordon-Levitt to be Riddler in Third Batman ?!!?

After quietly raising his star power and nabbing a role in “Inception,” Joseph Gordon-Levitt may be cast in another career making role. Levitt is one of the few child stars to actually make a career for himself past the age 9. Currently he has nearly 60 appearances on tv and film on his resume.

As a third installment to Christopher Nolan’s Batman machine begins to take shape, casting rumors are running amok. The villain that will torture the Christian Bale’s hero hasn’t been announced but insiders are swearing it will be The Riddler.

Via First Showing:

“We’ve gotten word from a reliable inside source with a studio casting grid that The Riddler is listed as a character for Chris Nolan’s highly anticipated to the sequel to The Dark Knight, which is still called Batman 3 at Warner Bros. Even more interesting, the actor currently listed in the same grid to play the assumed villain is none other than Joseph Gordon-Levitt, whose status is just listed as ‘interested.’”

Many names have been thrown around for roles in the third installment. Many characters have also been theorized. You may have heard Johnny Depp was after the Riddler role along with a long list of actresses after the Catwoman role. Even a delicious rumor feature Philip Seymour Hoffman as the Penguin circulated. Currently, Christopher Nolan and his brother, Jonathan Nolan along with David Groyer are still rumored to be working on the screenplay.

So is there any validity to this rumor? Perhaps. Levitt wisely spoke highly of Nolan after working with him in the latest hit film “Inception.” They reportedly got along very well and he’d be stupid turn his nose up at an opportunity like this. In my opinion, I would walk away confident that the Riddler will be a villain in the much anticipated third Batman.

Mark Wahlberg Fears Christian Bale has an Eating Disorder

christian-bale-the-fighter-weight-loss-4

Christian Bale is notorious for his method acting and even used it as an excuse for his infamous rant. (Fun fact- Daniel Day Lewis is also a huge proponent of method acting.) So questions of just how far he taking his dedication to his latest role as a crack addict are rumbling. According to the National Enquirer (via Celebitchy) his costar and new friend, Mark Wahlberg, is extremely concerned with Bale’s health.

“You gotta eat man. You’re messing with your health!” Mark Wahlberg made that desperate plea to co-star Christian Bale when Bale continued to starve himself after dropping more than 40 pounds for their film “The Fighter” sources say.

The Dark Knight” star is said to have resorted to living off of fruit and water to drop the pounds to appear as a gaunt coke addict for his role. To further the worry he has been working out on top of the starvation.

“Wahlberg – a health fanatic who worked himself into great shape to play a champion boxer in “The Fighter” – has begged Bale to stop dieting, said the source. Mark feels Christian is taking the whole ‘in character’ thing too far. He’s afraid Christian is getting Karen Carpenter-thin, and he’s worried about his heart,” the source divulged. He wants Christian to realize that acting is a job, and it’s not worth risking your health.”

Remind yourself that this story comes from the National Enquirer. In all honesty I know very little about dietary needs beyond my own of cookies, booze and some Kashi Go Lean Crunch. (It’s a delicious cereal.) However, if one were living on an orange and a couple of bananas a day and then pumping iron at a gym I doubt he or she would be able to walk let alone spend 12 hour days on a set working.

If you look at some of the photos below Bale is indeed gaunt, but notice there is still muscle and definition in his arms. The baggy clothes further the effect of his frail appearance. This also isn’t the first time he has dropped weight for a role. Anyone seen “The Machinist” before? He followed that with a Batman film and was able to bulk back up.

My point? Mark Wahlberg is insanely hot.

Christian Bale Threatens Director – Audio

Batman will eat you! He is not joking by any means and loves to use the “F” word as both a noun and verb.

Christian Bale has a bit of issue with his rage. While on the set of “Terminator: Salvation” he was interrupted by the director of photography during a scene. Bale went ham sandwich crazy and threatened to kung-fu Batman kick him off the set.

“I want you off the set! You prick!” the 35-year-old actor yelled at D.P. Shane Hurlbut. “No, don’t just be sorry! Think for one f–king second! What the f–k are you doing? Are you professional or not?”

Now that his rant has gone public the assistant director, Bruce Franklin, has come to Bale’s defense.

Per E! Online:

“If you are working in a very intense scene and someone takes you out of your groove…It was the most emotional scene in the movie,” said Franklin. “And for him to get stopped in the middle of it. He is very intensely involved in his character. He didn’t walk around like that all day long. It was just a moment and it passed.”

“This was my second movie with Christian, and it has always been a good experience with him,” added Franklin, who also worked with the actor on 2000′s Shaft. “He is so dedicated to the craft. I think someone is begging to make some noise about this, but I don’t think it’s fair. The art of acting is not paint by numbers, it’s an art form.”

I think I could take him. Or perhaps I’d just like to try and get all sweaty with him instead. Although I am pretty sure if I were on set with him I steer clear of the craft services table for fear of eating the last Power Bar.

Eddie Murphy as the Riddler in Batman Sequel Nuttery

File this one under the same “Will-Never-Happen” file as Lisa Rinna’s Playboy dream.

Since “The Dark Knight” is on it’s way to reaching the 1 billion dollar marker, it is safe to say that another addition to the revamped Batman series is unavoidable. Christopher Nolan, the man behind both “Batman Begins” and “The Dark Knight,” hasn’t confirmed his dedication to another superhero film, but I have a feeling the movie will be done with or without him.

Rumors as to who will be playing what nemesis have be bouncing around since the release of the second installment. Angelina Jolie was said to be Catwoman but that rumor gave way to Cher taking the role. Then a small blip in the feline foe story stated that Judi Dench scored the spot. All of which proved to be pure stupidity. Jolie would have required Cambodian children featured in at least 12 scenes and Batman writing fat checks to buy them porridge. The thought of Cher lubing herself up and sliding into latex and then prancing around in the jumbo screen on IMAX is simply horrifying. Same for Dench.

Casting hasn’t even been legitimately touched, let alone a plot. Rumors that the next segment will involve The Riddler and Catwoman are unwavering. The original sequel casting was adamant that Johnny Depp would be undertaking the role. Now…this lunacy surfaces. Eddie Murphy is said to have scored the role despite the fact that no concrete evidence that the project is actually underway.

The Sun states:

FUNNYMAN EDDIE MURPHY will play The Riddler in the next Batman movie, The Sun can reveal. The Beverly Hills Cop star, 47, has been signed up by British director CHRISTOPHER NOLAN to reprise the role played by JIM CARREY in 1995’s Batman Forever. The surprise move follows speculation linking Pirates of the Caribbean star JOHNNY DEPP to the part.
The film, set for a 2010 release, is being developed under the working title Gotham.

Execs have also signed up rising Transformers star SHIA LABEOUF, 22, to play Robin. CHRISTIAN BALE will return as Bruce Wayne, while MICHAEL CAINE will again play Bruce’s assistant Alfred. Meanwhile, Brit RACHEL WEISZ is said to be up for the Catwoman role.

I call caca on this story. First….in doing my research on the subject, I have found that both Christian Bale and Christopher Nolan have confirmed that they would NOT be adding the “Robin” factor to the films. During several interviews Bale expresses his distaste for the sidekick.

“If Robin crops up in one of the new Batman films, I’ll be chaining myself up somewhere and refusing to go to work.”

Never say never…but from a logical stand point why would you trade your main star for Shia as Robin? That is like saying…Sorry Johnny Depp hotness…we are replacing you with this Pee Wee Herman bobble head. The only way I will buy this as fact is if “Batman 3” will include 8 other super villains whose powers involve a stereotype like fried chicken and waffles and each of them were played by Eddie Murphy in fat suits.
