Fashion Trends – Would You Wear It: Menswear

Menswear hasn’t been limited to the male crowd for decades. Designers like Coco Chanel brought the comfort of menswear into what women wear with fabrics and less constrained clothing. Yves Saint Laurent also helped popularized trousers for women. So it is no surprise this trend keeps resurfacing.

Hollyood Dame: I am blessed with extreme curves and often can’t wear the menswear trend as it doesn’t compliment my thunderous thighs. However, this fall you will see another wave of menswear inspirations on the racks. Despite the focal point being your curvy hips this season, menswear bottoms will be haute. Oscar de la Renta, Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs, Tommy Hilfiger and BCBG Max Azria all cranked out looks that embrace comfort and tapered trend. Need something a bit more affordable? Express has also embraced the collision of men’s style for ladies.

Banned Coco avant Chanel Ad

Audrey Tautou s undertaking the role of Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel in the film “Coco avant Chanel.” The actress is portraying one of the most legendary designers hailing from Paris. However, posters with the starlet sitting on sitting on a couch in pajamas and smoking a cigarette are being banned from Paris. Currently any images of smoking, even those of one the most influential Parisians, are being torn down.

The country’s city of romance has banned all public smoking. This took place at the start of 2009. In light of the no smoking, no exceptions law, a new poster was put in place of the “offensive” advert.

Via Telegraph:

“The film’s producers were obliged to provide an alternative poster showing Tautou with the male lead. But a representative of Warner France said that “for us, the real poster is where Coco Chanel is smoking in a natural pose that translates her strong personality and her modernity.”

Agreed. You will rarely find a picture of the real Coco with a cigarette in her hand or mouth. It’s a part of her personality.

Coco Chanel Silent Film Photos

The pretensions and self serving Karl Lagerfeld has put together a short film centered around the woman who built a clothing empire. Coco Chanel has been captured in Lagerfeld’s silent film dedication thanks to model Edita Vilkeviciute. She plays Coco in her 1920’s era.

The entire movie lasts a quick 10 minutes. Flapper heavy and set in Paris begins in the year 1913, the film capture’s the young designer and her rise to fashion glory with her first designing endeavor…hats. Thanks to her partnership with her love, Boy Capell, she sets up her first hat shop.

As reported in WWD Nov. 17, Tallulah Ormsby-Gore plays a Chanel model who has to sell her real-life mother, Lady Amanda Harlech, a hat in the film. Even the workers in the Chanel atelier got to play parts as workers in the fashion house. “I cannot take extras,” Lagerfeld notes. “They don’t know how to touch the clothes.”

The second half of the film fast forwards to 1923. This features Coco, real name Gabrielle Chanel, in her prime. She is an established designer who has the art of seduction to match her touch with clothing.

I really cannot stand Karl Lagerfeld. However, this I would give a toe to see.
