I am a self professed nerd and I admit I LOVE Discovery Channel. Bear Grylls is a sexy beast and I would like to point out that he often strips for his show so it’s more like education porn. Another show I adore is “Deadliest Catch.” In a sad turn of events, Phil Harris has suffered a stroke while unloading his boat, the Cornelia Marie.
Per NY Daily:
“Deadliest Catch” Captain Phil Harris is reportedly in a coma after undergoing 12 hours of surgery Sunday night.
The Seattle-based skipper of the Cornelia Marie, who suffered a stroke on Friday, was placed under a medically-induced coma to reduce brain swelling.
Phil’s two sons, Josh and Jake, released a statement via the Discovery Channel’s site.
“Josh and Jake Harris thank everyone for their heartfelt thought and prayers. ‘The Deadliest Catch’ community has always been more like family than just fans, and Discovery Channel joins the Harris boys in thanking everyone for their wishes of support. Captain Phil is resting comfortably and is in the care of excellent doctors and nurses. We will update everyone on his progress as best we can.”
Get well soon!
UPDATE: Phil Harris woke up! Huzzah y’all! The health plagued Captain of the Cornelia Marie woke up from his medically induced coma on Tuesday.
Via TMZ:
Jake and Josh Harris tell TMZ their dad “showed some good signs of improvement” today, including squeezing their hands. Harris’ sons — who both work with him aboard the F/V Cornelia Marie — say they are “encouraged but still very cautious” as Captain Phil recovers from the stroke he suffered on Friday.
One really good sign — his sons tell us that shortly after waking up, Harris told his doctors and nurses: “Don’t f**k up.”
Fantastic news!
Today is a very, very sad day. On the heels of Farrah Fawcett‘s passing, news has surfaced that Michael Jackson has also died. He was only 50 years old. The legendary pop star suffered cardiac arrest earlier this afternoon at his home in Holmby Hills. A 911 call was made from his residence at 12:21pm pacific time. When paramedics arrived on the scene, Michael is said to have stopped breathing, with no visible pulse. After not being able to revive him, he was then was rushed to UCLA Medical Center and was said to have slipped into a coma for a short while before being pronounced dead around 3:15pm pacific time. The L.A. Times confirmed his death.
Jackson had been due to start a series of comeback concerts in London on July 13 running until March 2010. The singer, whose hits included “Thriller” and “Billie Jean,” had been rehearsing lately in Los Angeles for the past few months. A spokespersons for Jackson so far could not be reached for comment. Michael is survived by three children, Michael Joseph Jackson, Jr., Paris Michael Katherine Jackson and Prince “Blanket” Michael Jackson II.
What a very sad week in Hollywood, indeed. First Ed McMahon, then Farrah Fawcett, and now Michael Jackson. Our thoughts, prayers, and hearts go out to the family and friends.
