New Music Friday – Muse

If you are a fan of the “Twilight” series, then you more than likely have heard of Muse, who had a hit off the movies’ soundtrack with the song titled “Supermassive Black Hole,” and the song “I Belong To You (New Moon Remix)” off the next movie in the saga “New Moon.” Considered to be an alternative rock band who formed in the early 90s from Teignmouth, England, the band consists of longtime friends Matthew Bellamy, Chris Wolstenholme, and Dominic Howard. They’ve changed band names a number of times (from names such as Gothic Plague, Fixed Penalty, and Rocket Baby Dolls) before finally deciding on the name Muse. Their sound is a blend of alternative rock, classical, electronica, metal, spanish guitars, and progressive rock.

The band is known for their energetic live performances and front man Bellamy’s avid interests in unconventional things such as global conspiracy, extraterrestrial life, theology and the apocalypse. Their lyrical themes involve madcap conspiracy theory, revolutionary rabble-rousing, weird stuff about aliens, religions and other such classic Muse concerns. They have won many musical awards over the years, including 5 MTV Europe Awards 5 Q Awards, 6 NME Awards, and 2 BRIT Awards. The majority of these awards have been attributed to their live performances.

Muse have been heavily involved with “Teenage Cancer Trust,” a charity that focuses on the needs of teenagers and young adults with cancer, leukemia, Hodgkin’s and related diseases. They have performed at the Royal Albert Hall where they donated all money made from the merchandise stands to the charity. In September of 2008 all three members were awarded Honorary Doctorates of the Arts by Plymouth University.

Muse has released five studio albums, with their latest released this September titled “The Resistance.” It is the first Muse album to have been produced by the band itself. On its release, it topped the album charts in 19 countries and reached number 3 on the American album charts. The first single off the album, “Uprising,” has reached #1 on the Billboard Hot Alternative Songs chart becoming their 6th Top 10 single and first #1 on that chart. Marilyn Manson Infected With Swine Flu

Could this be a case of Karma at its best? The last time we heard anything about Marilyn Manson, he was ranting and raving, threatening to bring an angry mob of fans to the doorstep of any critic who dared to say anything negative about his music. Now, only a few short months after that little tirade, his latest round of trash talking might have actually incensed the great power that be to strike him down with an illness in an attempt to show him whos boss by infecting him with the Swine Flu.

Per Us:

“So I have officially been diagnosed, by a real doctor, with THE SWINE FLU,” the singer, 40, writes on his Facebook page. “I know everyone will suggest that f****** a pig is how this disease was obtained. However, the doctor said, my past choices in women have, in ‘no way’ contributed to me acquiring this mysterious sickness.” He then adds, “Unfortunately, I am going to survive.”

Way to take a dig at your exes while giving me one of the grossest images to ever pop into my head. The rocker had got himself tested earlier this month after coming down with some flu-like symptoms and his report confirmed that he had the disease. But don’t panic Manson-fans… Its not serious, and he is expected to make a fast recovery from it. However, any fans that attended his Ottawa concert not so long ago might want to take a trip to the doctors and get themselves checked out. While performing the song “Beautiful People” at the concert, Manson apparently felt the need to stand on the edge of the stage and shoot some ‘snot rockets‘ out into the crowd. How disgusting! I think this now trumps the last gross image you gave me, Marilyn.

Ron Silver Passes Away

Actor and longtime political activist Ron Silver died Sunday morning, succumbing to a long battle with esophageal cancer after battling the disease for the past two years. He was 62.

Per NY Post:

“Ron Silver died peacefully in his sleep with his family around him this morning,” said Robin Bronk, executive director of the Creative Coalition, which Silver helped create. “He had been fighting esophageal cancer for two years and his family is making arrangements for a private service.”

The actor started the left-leaning Creative Coalition in 1989 but switched to the GOP following the Sept. 11 attacks, speaking at the 2004 Republican National Convention. His “West Wing” character Bruno Gianelli underwent a similar conversion on that TV show. His early credits included “The Mac Davis Show,” “Rhoda” and “The Stockard Channing Show.” Silver is best known for playing legal scholar Alan Dershowitz in 1990′s “Reversal of Fortune,” a movie about the successful appeal of Claus von Bulow’s conviction for putting his socialite wife into a permanent coma. He had also won a Tony Award as a take-no-prisoners Hollywood producer in David Mamet’s “Speed-the-Plow.”

Ron was married to Lynne Miller from the December 1975 untill July 1997. They have two children, a son named Adam who was born in 1979 and a daughter named Alexandra who was born in 1983.

Very sad news. Our condolences go out to his family.

Rihanna’s Herpes Cause for Chris Brown Fight ???

The internet blew up with questions at to whether or not Rihanna’s alleged herpes caused the fight between her and boyfriend Chris Brown. The rumor is that she failed to mention that she has the STD and Brown got it. He became furious and the fight ensued.

From what I am hearing there is little support behind the this theory. According to sources she was upset with him for looking at other women at the Pre-Grammy party and he received text messages from an alleged mistress. They began to argue about it in the car and things became physical. Another source told NY Daily News that Chris saw Rihanna dancing with another man and he became enraged with jealousy. Either way, the injuries she has sustained are being called “horrific” by police leaks.

A case is being built against Brown and Rihanna is cooperating with the investigation that could land her (hopefully former) boyfriend in jail for up to 9 years. Lets hope that justice is served because it is NEVER ok to resort to violence.
