Hollywood Dame Exclusive: Interview with Meital Dohan

meital-dohan-2

Meital Dohan is fast becoming a force to be reckoned with in Hollywood. The Israel born actress also has a talent for writing. She has co-written and starred in an Israeli show called “Screen Warriors” and has penned several plays that have run in both New York and Israel. Currently her resume boasts 22 appearances on tv and film. Most Americans might recognize her from the show “Weeds” and “Woke Up Dead.”

Meital was kind enough to chat with Hollywood Dame…

-First, you achieved great success as an actress and writer in your native Israel, what prompted you to want to split your time between the USA and home country?

For me, life takes you where the good work is. I started getting more and more offers from the US, which is why I work in both places.

-Are you finding work in the US to be difficult or challenging in any way?

On one hand, it’s a piece of delicious cake. On the other hand, it’s a big plate of steak that you need to strategize over how to cut it right.

-You recently worked on the hit Showtime series ‘Weeds’, what was it like working on a show that has such a strong fan-base? What was it like working with veteran actors like Mary Louise Parker and Elizabeth Perkins?

It felt great that so many people became fans of the seductress rabbinical teacher. Both actresses were very friendly and talented, and make very unique choices which I think is what makes the show so special.

-Currently, you can be seen on the web series ‘Woke Up Dead’ with ‘Napoleon Dynamite’s’ Jon Heder. What brought you to this role? And what is it like shooting a web-series as opposed to television or film?

I came to mind to the casting director when she was considering who could best play a ball busting zombie chick. Truthfully, shooting Woke Up Dead was the same as shooting a tv series or film, it was just edited in shorter segments for the internet. I think the writing and concept is really funny, and that’s what I care most about.

-I imagine working with Jon Heder to be a non-stop riot, is this so?

Yeah, we couldn’t stop laughing and it’s been a blast.

-You also have many writing accomplishments, including the book ‘Love and Other Bad Habits’. What inspires you to write and what can you tell our readers about this book?

I’m inspired by all the typical things: life, love, fortune and misfortune. Love and Other Bad Habits falls into the categories of love and misfortune. Considering the gender situation of modern society, I’m very interested in the ways relationships between men and women navigate our biological and cultural history. There was once a strong feminist movement fighting for more tangible change, and now the relationship between men and women is in an interesting phase. Women’s role in society is diverse and varied, whether she is a housewife, sex object, or business woman, and my book is addressing some of these complexities in the poetic form, and with photographs by Karen Gillerman-Harel.

-Lastly, please let our readers know where we can expect to see Meital Dohan next and where we can pick up a copy of ‘Love and Other Bad Habits.’

I just finished shooting a feature film called Monogamy with director Dana Adam Shapiro (Murderball), and I have a few more films that are going to be shot in the next few months. So it’s going to be interesting…get ready! As for the book, you can buy a copy on amazon here.

You can visit Meital’s Dohan’s website for some info, photos and goodies.

*He hails from Grand Rapids Michigan and is a Wolverines fan.

Disneys’ “The Princess And The Frog”

Oh this looks fantastic! DisneysThe Princess and the Frog” is an animated family feature film loosely based on E.D. Baker’s novel “The Frog Princess” and the Grimm brothers’ “The Frog Prince.” Set in the French Quarter of New Orleans, a prince named Naveen from the land of Maldonia is transformed into a frog by the evil scheming voodoo magician Dr. Facilier. The frog prince mistakes a girl named Tiana for a princess and has her kiss him to break the spell. While the kiss doesn’t break the spell, it instead turns Tiana into a frog, too. Together, the two of them must reach the good voodoo priestess of the Bayou, Mama Odie, while befriending a trumpet-playing alligator and a hopelessly romantic firefly along the way. The film will open in limited release in New York and Los Angeles on November 25th before expanding into wide release on December 11th.

The film’s soundtrack “The Princess and the Frog: Original Songs and Score” will be released November 23rd. It contains seven instrumental pieces and ten original songs, including the pop theme song “Never Knew I Needed” contributed by Ne-Yo. The music video for the song is directed by Melina and will premiere online in the near future. All good things come to those who wait? Naaaahhhhh. The “New Moon” soundtrack was set to be released next Tuesday, but now it’s become one of the rare albums to have its release date pushed up. Summit Entertainment issued a release saying “due to overwhelming and unprecedented demand,” the soundtrack will come out this Friday!

Adding to the great news, Myspace announced earlier this week that starting yesterday the site will premiere songs from the album on its official New Moon profile, allowing fans to listen to all 15 tracks in their entirety legally. Led by Death Cab for Cutie’s with the official song for the movie titled “Meet Me on the Equinox“, the soundtrack album is made up solely of “original and exclusive” songs. Muse, who contributed to the first movies soundtrack, is making a return with another track titled “I Belong to You (New Moon)“. The line-up also include Thom Yorke, The Killers, and OK Go. Regardless of your level of affection for vampires who sparkle, the album has been getting pretty decent reviews and may be worth paying attention to even if you’re not swept into the whole “Twilight” hysteria. “New Moon” will open on November 20th, giving us fan enough time to reread the book with the soundtrack blaring in the background. Twi-hards, you now have 35 days from today to get this done!

In other related news, the official soundtrack for the first movie in the franchise, “Twilight.” is nominated in the category for favorite soundtrack at this years AMA’s, alongside the soundtracks for “Hannah Montana: The Movie” and “Hannah Montana 3.” If you’ve been living under a rock for the past year, some of the Twilight soundtrack artist include Paramore

with the movies official song “Decode“, Robert Pattinson, and Muse - just to name a few. The awards show will take place on ABC on November 22nd, just two days after The “Twilight Saga: New Moon” movie is released, and voting is still ongoing.

This is one franchise that has no signs of slowing down. “Overwhelming and unprecedented demand” is every movie exec’s dream. So be prepared for a few more years of Robert Pattinson and sparkling vampires. You have been warned.

New Music Friday – Dead By Sunrise

Out Of Ashes,” the debut from the side project of Linkin Park’s frontman Chester Bennington’s new band, is here. Dead by Sunrise started to form in 2005 while Bennington was writing songs for Linkin Park’s “Minutes to Midnight” Album. The band also features Ryan Shuck and Amir Derakh (from Orgy/Julien-K), bassist Brandon Belsky, drummer Elias Anda (also from Julien-K), and keyboardist Anthony Valcic.

Per Dead By Sunrise:

“I came up with a few songs that felt and sounded really good, but I knew they weren’t right stylistically for Linkin Park. They were darker and moodier than anything I’d come up with for the band. So I decided to work on them on my own rather than turn them over and have them transformed into Linkin Park tracks,” says Bennington.

The band’s name, which was previously “Snow White Tan,” reflects the time during the album’s recording in which the band was living a ‘really self destructive lifestyle’ and weren’t sure they were going to make it to the next day. Bennington says the albums’ name is from ‘coming out of that self-destructive path and rising from the ashes.’ Back on May 10, 2008, the band performed three songs, including the song “Morning After,” at the 13th anniversary party for Club Tattoo in Arizona. The song was written by Bennington and originally performed on December 9, 2001 at the Live in Berlin concert. This was the first time that he had officially performed the song under a new name.

Recording of the band’s debut album began in July 2008 after touring for Linkin Park had finished. “Crawl Back In” is the first official single off the album, followed by “Let Down.” Dead by Sunrise’s MySpace page is featuring the video for the band’s first single, and will hold an exclusive listening party for its debut album on their page this week. Fans will be able to stream the album, which will be released by on October 13th, in its entirety on Myspace from October 8th through the 10th. MySpace will direct users to the listening party via links on both the site’s homepage and its music page. They are scheduled to perform at The Gramercy Theatre in New York City on October 14th, and at the Roxy in Los Angeles on October 19th. You can watch the video for the song “Crawl Back In” above. Exclusive Interview: Dr. Francis Palmer, Author of “The Palmer Code”

On Thursday, I had the opportunity to sit down and chat with Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Dr. Francis Palmer. Dr. Palmer recently released a book titled: “What’s Your Number? The Palmer Code: The Whole You Approach to Personal Transformation.” Unfortunately for me, this interview did not include free Botox as I had hoped, but Dr. Palmer did let me in on a few secrets of the beauty industry.

First of all, it’s important to know that Dr. Palmer knows his stuff. He has performed his nip/tuck magic on well over 20,000 patients in both Beverly Hills and London. However, he really stressed to me that his book is, “Painfully honest,” about beauty and teaches people not to reply on plastic surgery as a means to be pretty. He explained,

“Roughly 2% of the population gets plastic surgery…this book is meant for everyone.”

Well, more like it’s for anyone who has $13.00 and some change to pay for it. But, that is a far cry from the thousands you would spend on a tummy-tuck.

The Palmer Code” consists of a number between one and one hundred. This number is a result of different out and inner self factors that determine how others view you. Someone with a low number is viewed as unattractive and someone with a high number scores in the high nineties to one hundred. There are many factors that make up your number, but as you can imagine, your outer number is based on your physical presentation: your looks, height, weight, hygiene, clothing, and make-up.

However, you number isn’t a constant, explains Dr. Palmer:

“Numbers fluctuate from moment to moment.”

For example, on a red carpet, celebs are at their best looking thanks to the help of professional stylists and make-up artists. But when they’re home, have the flu, are caught by the paps without make-up on, etc. their number drops. Angelina Jolie can score a 100 one night, and be an 85 the following morning. Unfortunately for the rest of us, if we score a 100 one night, we are likely looking more like a 50 in the morning!

Palmer also expressed to me that was it viewed as beautiful is pretty consistent from one culture to the next. According to the good doc, nearly all men like curvy women and full lips. Trends that say otherwise come and go, “fads are not persistent.”

Since I look out for all of you, and because I was morbidly curious, I decided to test Dr. Palmer’s theory and spring the ‘Model Myth’ on him, as I like to call it. If what he was saying is true, then why are models often curveless?

“High fashion is not the same as true beauty,” explained Dr. Palmer. “Models are hired because they are photogenic and can morph themselves into the demand of the designer.”

Hmmm….So what you’re saying is someone like Uma Thurman isn’t as attractive?

“Uma Thurman scores maybe in the 80’s, she’s too symmetrical and not that attractive,” according to Dr. Palmer.

Dr. Palmer also continued to explain how satisfied he was that Miss Australia was heavily criticized for being rail thin (read about that story by clicking here.)

“Five years ago, no one would have said anything about how skinny she is…[she] obviously has some kind of eating disorder.”

Despite Dr. Palmer’s belief that “beauty is not esoteric,” I had to question why some people, like my beloved Robert Pattinson, can go from average guy to my love slave the next. Dr. Palmer informed me that there are certain “trump factors” that make people more beautiful:

1. Fame: This is why my beloved Sparklepants is hotter now that he’s a vampire than he was as a wizard. The more famous someone is, the more attractive they become to people.

2. Wealth: This is why Donald Trump is able to land hot chicks. He has money. This may also explain why I have a crush on Bill Gates.

3. Power: Dr. Palmer explained to me that President Obama, though nice looking is not “movie star beautiful.” However, because he is the president and is very charismatic, people are more attracted to him.

So what do we think? Is Dr. Palmer onto something here? Can we really improve ourselves to achieve our highest number possible without the use of plastic surgery?

According to the doctor, “Daily decisions affect how you look; the lipstick you buy, for example. You cannot separate anything you do from being connected to your appearance…if given a choice, most everyone would choose to improve themselves.”

Britney Spears Exclusive “If U Seek Amy” – Video and Photos

Britney Spears’ people have released exclusive behind-the-scenes pictures from her video shoot for the highly anticipated “If U Seek Amy”.

As I am sure you all know, there is quite a bit of controversy surrounding the song “If U Seek Amy” (say it fast-go ahead!) which has resulted in many radio stations across the country refusing to even play the single. That hasn’t stopped the Britney machine from putting together a mammoth video that has left teeny-boppers and gay men in a frenzy.

I don’t know what all the fuss is about. All I see are some flashy costumes, a bed, and two different bathtubs. I guess this means we will likely see Brit-Brit stripping out of the costumes, hosing down in the one of the tubs, and then rolling around in the bed with the guy who looks like Corbin Bleu from “High School Musical”. Someone please tell me how that is any different than all the other Britney videos.

This video does have Perez Hilton, dressed as what I can only assume to be Queen Elizabeth on a bad day, as some kind of ring-master (yes, her album is titled “Circus”, I get it). Britney, you would have been much better off using the Dame instead of Perez. Though her cans are quite as large as his, she is much more voluptuous all the way around.
