Project Runway Approacheth

project-runway-season-6

Yes my darlings! I too am shaking with excitement like one of those rats on string that wannabe socialites prance around in Louis Vuitton bags.

Project Runway is fast approaching as we mark down the days on the calendar until August 20th. Lets just hope Lifetime won’t ruin it with weepy beaten women who channeling their inner J.Lo as clients. This will be the debut of PR on the channel. In the words of RuPaul lets hope they “don’t f**k it up.”

Yours truly will be doing recaps and occasional live blogs of the show. Until then enjoy the lame commercial for the return of the show. It was interesting until the cut the bit of me chasing Tim Gunn around begging him to sign my underwear.

Jennifer Lopez’s Sweetface Clothing Line Fails

This is a karmic retaliation for snubbing “Project Runway.”

jennifer-lopez-sweetface

Jennifer Lopez is putting a halt to her Sweetface line which only appealed to tweens and people still holding onto the Uggs craze. The fur encrusted line will cease it’s operation after the spring 2009 line. If you recall it made it’s start in the urban street wear genre and ended up being passed off as high end goods. According to WWD, camp Lopez is pulling a Lauren Conrad and stating that the line is “just on hiatus.” Her peeps claim the company is giving the line a (much needed) makeover.

She still has JLO to fall back on. The 2001 launched line is still breathing in markets outside of the U.S. In 2007 she closed the line in America and invented Justsweet. That line also closed after a failure to sell.

Now I do feel bad for all those who are now out of a job. Think of all those hookers who will be effected by this.

Quotables:

Bossip – “Don’t feel bad for J-Lo. She’ll come up with some other wack @ss way to gank you for your loot.”

Amy Gindhouse – “It’s cheap hookers and cheap velour tracksuits for everybody, until over-priced duds come back into fashion.”

Jessica Simpson Returns to Reality TV

jessica-simpson-3

Jessica Simpson is returning to do what she does best… Reality TV. VH1′s “The Price of Beauty” will take Simpson all over the world in search of what people find beautiful and why in all sorts of different cultures. Part of Jessicas’ job will be to study local fashions, dietary fads and beauty regimes of local women, even participating in some of the extreme practices she discovers. Simpson said she was immediately intrigued by the concept of doing a show about true beauty.

Per Us:

“I have always believed that beauty comes from within and confidence will always make a woman beautiful, but I know how much pressure some women put on themselves to look perfect,” she said in a statement Monday.

“I am really looking forward to discovering how beauty is perceived in different cultures and participating in some of the crazy things people do to feel beautiful,” she continued. “I know we will all learn a lot on this journey and I am so excited that VH1 is coming along on what I’m sure will be a wild ride.”

Wild ride indeed. This should be quite the learning adventure for the girl who once couldn’t distinguish between tuna and chicken. Simpson has come under fire from the media and magazines for her appearance lately, starting when she appeared onstage wearing unflattering high-waisted jeans back in January (read about that here.)

Shooting for the new series begins in mid-july, with a premiere date scheduled for early 2010. Jessica and her creepy father Joe will serve as executive producers. Hopefully this show will be a lot more successful than her previous one on MTV with ex husband Nick Lachey called “Newlyweds“. Either way, with Jessica Simpson involved it ought to be entertaining.

She my have stuck her foot in her mouth with comments about 9/11, but the Oscar winning actress proved her bravery while wearing some eye raising Dior sandals. A naked and pregnant statue made the heel of the shoe. The John Galliano designed shoe captured the form of a fertility goddess because there isn’t enough nude pregnant women featured in footwear.

Lady Gaga Nude on Rolling Stone Cover

It’s no surprise that Lady Gaga is wearing a clear corset and gracing the cover of Rolling Stone’s June 2009 issue. The “Poker Face” singer is synonymous with risqué and odd fashion choices. She often walks the street sans pants and isn’t afraid to let her crazy run rampant.

Per Rolling Stone:

“The truth is, the psychotic woman that I truly am comes out when I’m not working,” she says (during Hiatt’s time with the star, she rocks a massive radio concert, takes advice from Cyndi Lauper at a photo shoot and suffers a brief breakdown at a Walmart.com taping). “When I’m not working, I go crazy.”

She is so into her music and art that she hasn’t got time for messing with men. During another interview she stated that all she looks for in mean is a “big d**k.”

The bit where she calls out the reporter for a stupid question is priceless.

Exclusive Interview: Dr. Francis Palmer, Author of “The Palmer Code”

On Thursday, I had the opportunity to sit down and chat with Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Dr. Francis Palmer. Dr. Palmer recently released a book titled: “What’s Your Number? The Palmer Code: The Whole You Approach to Personal Transformation.” Unfortunately for me, this interview did not include free Botox as I had hoped, but Dr. Palmer did let me in on a few secrets of the beauty industry.

First of all, it’s important to know that Dr. Palmer knows his stuff. He has performed his nip/tuck magic on well over 20,000 patients in both Beverly Hills and London. However, he really stressed to me that his book is, “Painfully honest,” about beauty and teaches people not to reply on plastic surgery as a means to be pretty. He explained,

“Roughly 2% of the population gets plastic surgery…this book is meant for everyone.”

Well, more like it’s for anyone who has $13.00 and some change to pay for it. But, that is a far cry from the thousands you would spend on a tummy-tuck.

The Palmer Code” consists of a number between one and one hundred. This number is a result of different out and inner self factors that determine how others view you. Someone with a low number is viewed as unattractive and someone with a high number scores in the high nineties to one hundred. There are many factors that make up your number, but as you can imagine, your outer number is based on your physical presentation: your looks, height, weight, hygiene, clothing, and make-up.

However, you number isn’t a constant, explains Dr. Palmer:

“Numbers fluctuate from moment to moment.”

For example, on a red carpet, celebs are at their best looking thanks to the help of professional stylists and make-up artists. But when they’re home, have the flu, are caught by the paps without make-up on, etc. their number drops. Angelina Jolie can score a 100 one night, and be an 85 the following morning. Unfortunately for the rest of us, if we score a 100 one night, we are likely looking more like a 50 in the morning!

Palmer also expressed to me that was it viewed as beautiful is pretty consistent from one culture to the next. According to the good doc, nearly all men like curvy women and full lips. Trends that say otherwise come and go, “fads are not persistent.”

Since I look out for all of you, and because I was morbidly curious, I decided to test Dr. Palmer’s theory and spring the ‘Model Myth’ on him, as I like to call it. If what he was saying is true, then why are models often curveless?

“High fashion is not the same as true beauty,” explained Dr. Palmer. “Models are hired because they are photogenic and can morph themselves into the demand of the designer.”

Hmmm….So what you’re saying is someone like Uma Thurman isn’t as attractive?

“Uma Thurman scores maybe in the 80’s, she’s too symmetrical and not that attractive,” according to Dr. Palmer.

Dr. Palmer also continued to explain how satisfied he was that Miss Australia was heavily criticized for being rail thin (read about that story by clicking here.)

“Five years ago, no one would have said anything about how skinny she is…[she] obviously has some kind of eating disorder.”

Despite Dr. Palmer’s belief that “beauty is not esoteric,” I had to question why some people, like my beloved Robert Pattinson, can go from average guy to my love slave the next. Dr. Palmer informed me that there are certain “trump factors” that make people more beautiful:

1. Fame: This is why my beloved Sparklepants is hotter now that he’s a vampire than he was as a wizard. The more famous someone is, the more attractive they become to people.

2. Wealth: This is why Donald Trump is able to land hot chicks. He has money. This may also explain why I have a crush on Bill Gates.

3. Power: Dr. Palmer explained to me that President Obama, though nice looking is not “movie star beautiful.” However, because he is the president and is very charismatic, people are more attracted to him.

So what do we think? Is Dr. Palmer onto something here? Can we really improve ourselves to achieve our highest number possible without the use of plastic surgery?

According to the doctor, “Daily decisions affect how you look; the lipstick you buy, for example. You cannot separate anything you do from being connected to your appearance…if given a choice, most everyone would choose to improve themselves.”

Anna Wintour Told Oprah to Loose Weight

Watch CBS Videos Online

Anna Wintour came down from Mount Vogue to be questioned by “60 Minutes.” Father Time interviewed the Vogue Editrix to give her an opportunity to try and convince us she isn’t an ice queen, but lovely and fluffy kitten who just loves to be right.

The interview omitted several omissions by Wintour. One edited question surrounded her preference for stick thin cover girls. In 1998 Oprah landed a cover spot with the Fashion Bible. Being notoriously up and down with her weight issues, Anna asked the talk show queen to loose 20 pounds.

Via Us:

“It was a very gentle suggestion,” she said, laughing. “I went to Chicago to visit Oprah, and I suggested that it might be an idea that she lose a little bit of weight.”

She added: “I said simply that you might feel more comfortable. She was a trooper!”

Near the end of the interview the question of contracts came up. Conveniently enough, her contract is about to expire with Vogue. Rumors that ‘Nuclear Wintour’ was on her way out have been swirling for nearly a year. French Vogue Editor, Carine Roitfeld is the front runner to replace her should she be axed or retire. So it is of little surprise that Team Wintour is popping up in the media more often as the contract negotiations are eminent.

It must be lovely being a queen.

Agyness Deyn Brings Classy Back in Bulgari

Agyness Deyn attended the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala looking like she walked out of an old Hollywood film. The model making headway in the fashion world was adorned in some of Bulgari’s finest work. She combined vintage glamour with a modern flair.

Personally I am a fan of Bulgari’s fragrance Omnia Amethyste. To add to the brand’s growing appeal, a skin care line is now being offered. The addition has everything from cleansing to regenerating items. Yours truly will be sampling and reviewing some of the new skincare line. So keep your eyes open for the upcoming Bulgari Skincare Line review.

Anna Sui Designs ‘Gossip Girls’ Line for Target

Ok…so I admit that I am not a Gossip Girl fan and could only stand 3.7 minutes before thinking, “I’m not getting paid to watch this shiz. Ooo! Jimmy Johns is still open!” However, I dig the name Serena van der Woodsen as I was once branded with the name Anabelle Beaverhausen. (Long story on that one kittens.)

Regardless, the show has a following and apparently Anna Sui is a fan. The designer is creating a line for Target that encompasses the style of the show. September 13 through October 17th a select 250 Target stores will feature the collection.

Via WWD:

“I have always been a fan of designer partnerships with mass retailers,” said Sui. “I think it is a great way to bring fashion to everyone. I love Go International and was intrigued with Target’s new take on designer partnerships. It’s a fresh approach. I was able to select a muse or source of creative inspiration to focus the collection around.”

Sui is known for producing fashion collections that are more accessible to the everyday woman on the street. So I am predicting this will be a wise venture.

Met Costume Gala Photos

Ahhh yes, the Met Costume Gala…it’s known to be the Oscars of fashion. Celebs traipse a red carpet simply to be seen in their fiercest garb.

Of course this is the chance to bust out whatever trend you are trying to set. However, some failed miserably. Madonna and her constant need to be in the limelight was ridiculous. Instead of being the old trend setting Madge, she looked desperate for attention. Oh how the mighty fall. Rihanna also showed up in a Dolce and Gabbana suit that looked like it came from a bad 80’ rendition of “Cabaret.” I keep looking for Duckie to pop out with a keytar.

Kristen Dunst sober up long enough to present herself at the event as well. I really wish this girl would wear some form of a bra. I like the dress, but the saggy boobs issue is so distracting. She’s going to be tuck those puppies into her socks one day. It wasn’t all disasters. Anne Hathaway looked ravishing. The Olsen twins both looked on their game for once. Ashley wore a Christian Lacroix plunging cowl back dress while her sister, Mary Kate, wore a silver and grey Lacroix creation.
