Joseph Gordon Levitt Cast in ‘The Dark Knight Rises’

The official cast for the third installment of Christopher Nolan’s ‘Batman’ series is finally taking shape. Another name has been added to the list of villains the superhero will take on in the third Batman film, ‘The Dark Knight Rises.’

Christian Bale, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine have been locked down while the rest of the ensemble has seen every rumor from Eddie Murphy being given the role of The Riddler to Angelina Jolie as Catwoman.

As Nolan finalizes the script, casting for ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ has finally gotten serious. Joseph Gordon Levitt has officially joined the lineup after he was rumored to be auditioning and a serious contender. IMBD had him listed as a credited cast several months ago before removing his name from the lineup.

Levitt has returned to the list and is said to have nabbed the role of Alberto Falcone aka The Holiday Killer. Initial rumors attached him to the role of The Riddler, but soon changed direction and rumbled that he would be Robin. I recalled Nolan promising that Robin would not make an appearance in his Batman reboots. So that one was obviously a miss, but according to Variety, Joseph will be portraying mafia boss Carmine Falcone’s outcast son. The character in the comic books targets Gotham City criminals and murders them on holidays.

Anne Hathaway was given the coveted role of Catwoman, but Marion Cotillard’s name is also attached to the project as a rumored new love interest. If Marion does join the film, it would reunite 3 members of Nolan’s other box office hit, ‘Inception.’ Tom Hardy was the first to join Bale, Oldman, Freeman and Caine. The teenage model turned actor was announced to be playing Bane. According to IMBD’s character description, he is one of Batman’s “most deadly and powerful foes” who boasts strength and a high IQ. He is also one of the very few villains who figures out the caped crusader’s real identity. (If you saw the 1997 franchise film…he was Poison Ivy’s henchman.)

With the news of Levitt joining the film, another casting rumor is thrown into the mix. Juno Temple is said to be up for a supporting role as a “street-smart Gotham girl.”

‘Red Riding Hood’ Pictures and Trailer – See Them HERE

Last time I checked, “Red Riding Hood” was just another classic childrens’ story about a little girl, a picnic delivery to Grandma, and a wolf who when he’s not biting people’s limbs off or swallowing them whole, thinks he looks quite cute in a flowered nightie. Not exactly feature-length film material, but Catherine Hardwicke’s movie version of the classic fairy tale, which debuted its teaser trailer yesterday, seems to differ majorly from our childhood recollection.

Per FirstShowing:

In the dark retelling of the famous children’s tale, Amanda Seyfried stars as Valerie, a village girl torn between two loves. The threat of demons and werewolves further complicates the love triangle, along with a priest (Gary Oldman) obsessed with ridding his village of evil, and any townspeople hiding their own secrets and lies. Red Riding Hood was directed by Catherine Hardwicke (of Thirteen, Lords of Dogtown, The Nativity Story, Twilight) from a screenplay by David Johnson (of only Orphan). It also stars Shiloh Fernandez, Lukas Haas and Virginia Madsen. Warner Bros is bringing Red Riding Hood to theaters starting on March 11th, 2011.

The period thriller also includes Julie Christie and Billy Burke. The movie seems very dark, gothic, and more than a little raunchy – I can’t wait to see it!

Eminem as The Riddler for Third Batman Movie !?!

There have been a thousand rumors when it comes to the casting of Christopher Nolan’s third Batman film. The subject of the rumors tends to be who the villain will be and what actor will nab the role. Most recently, Joseph Gordon-Levitt was rumored to be a top runner for the role of The Riddler. IMBD has gone as far as posting him on the cast list as Batman’s rival, Edward Nygma despite his reps statement that JGL hasn’t even been approached.

However, rumor has it that Nolan is also after Johnny Depp to portray the demented nemesis. Another farfetched casting story comes from National Enquirer

“After seven weeks of topping the charts with his “Recovery” album, almighty-whitey rapper EMINEM – itching to dominate movie screens again and repeat the critical kudos he won with biopic “8 Mile” – rapped to his reps: “When it comes to business, you know I ain’t no fiddler…You tell them Batman biggies, I wanna play ‘The Riddler!’” Will Eminem nail a big-screen comeback deal – or get a screen test, at least?

Producers are piqued at the prospect of a Rappin’ Riddler, but Slim Shady’s facing stiff competition – execs are also confab-ing with JOHNNY DEPP and red-hot “Inception” star JOSEPH GORDON-LEVITT. Stay tuned.”

It sounds absolutely ridiculous. I can’t picture Eminem being this corny in his request to screen-test. I am also guessing that Nolan will require a pedigree in acting and one stint in his biopic doesn’t make for a great resume. Nolan pretty much could pick whoever he wanted so Em’s competition is ridiculously fierce. So I am going to file this one under NGH – NOT GONNA HAPPEN for the Almighty Whitey.

The only casting that is official is Christina Bale as Batman, Gary Oldman as Commissioner Jim Gordon, Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox and Michael Caine as Alfred. Currently Christopher, his brother Jonathan and David Goyer are still working on a story and screenplay. The release date is (as of today) July 20 of 2012.
