Matt Lauer Leaving ‘The Today Show’

In addition to Katie Couric leaving CBS, there are reports that Matt Lauer is leaving NBC’s ‘The Today Show.’ Lauer allegedly told his bosses he won’t renew his contract when it expires on Dec. 31st 2012. This would make for quite a shakeup in the TV world with so many big-name personalities leaving their current posts. (In addition to Lauer and Couric, Meredith Vieira is also leaving ‘The Today Show’ in September and Glenn Beck announced he will be leaving Fox News at the end of June.)

Per NY Daily News:

If the report is true, Lauer, 53, is giving his bosses an unusually long period to prepare for his exit.

The question now is where will Matt Lauer go? Maybe Oprah has a secret plan in order to hire Beck, Lauer, Couric, and Viera for her O Network? Or could he be thinking about re-teaming with his former ‘Today’ show co-host Couric and his former ‘Today’ show executive producer Jeff Zucker? It has been widely speculated that Couric is expected to leave ‘CBS Evening News‘ and launch her own talk show with Zucker. Things that make you go hmm…

But don’t start crying into your morning coffee just yet, however… NBC is currently denying reports that their morning team consisting of Lauer and Vieira are exiting, saying that Lauer has a long-term contract with the show, and dismissing it as nothing more than speculation. I guess for now we’ll just have to thank our lucky stars that Al Roker is staying put. Right? …Right?

My boo, Stephen Colbert, attacked Glenn Beck on his show. The “Colbert Report” is one of my favorite entertainment venues. (Yes, I am biased thanks to the fact that my male equivalent is hosting the show.)

Stephen ripped Beck and his 9-12 project by focusing on his hypocrisy and over the top fake crying to build a career at the hands of those effected by 9/11. Glenn’s project is a dedication to help rise again, but not for the families of the those lost that day.

Via Huffington Post:

“This is horrible to say, and I wonder if I’m alone in this,” Beck said on his radio program that day, “you know it took me about a year to start hating the 9/11 victims’ families?” Glenn said on his radio show. “I don’t hate all of them. I hate probably about 10 of them. But when I see a 9-11 victim family on television, or whatever, I’m just like, ‘Oh, shut up!’ I’m so sick of them because they’re always complaining. And we did our best for them.”

Colbert then mocked the New York Times lackey:

“Yes, the 9-12 project is not for families directly affected by 9/11, just people building their careers on it.”

Well said boo. Well said.
