Rue McClanahan Dies at 76

Whenever we lose an icon it’s a sad day, but when that legend in question was one of the most beloved TV stars it’s even harder to swallow. It is with great sadness that we must announce the passing of one of our beloved “Golden Girls” Rue McClanahan, most famous for playing Blanche Deveraux.

Per People:

“She passed away at 1 a.m. this morning,” her manager, Barbara Lawrence, tells PEOPLE. She had a massive stroke.”

McClanahan, who at seventy-six years old was one of two surviving Golden Girls actresses along with Betty White (Bea Arthur died last year and Estelle Getty died in 2008) suffered a minor stroke earlier this year while recovering from bypass surgery. PEOPLE also reports that her family was by her side when she passed this morning and “went in peace.”

Per Hollywood Life:

“Rue was a close and dear friend. I treasured our relationship. It hurts more then I ever thought it would, if that’s possible,” says Betty White.

Rue McClanahan, Dennis Hopper, & Gary Coleman. Really, 3 seats to one of the best poker tables ever. Our condolences and deepest sympathy to her family and friends during this incredibly sad time. As always, thank you for being a friend Rue.

Betty White Confirms ‘SNL’ Hosting Gig

The internet won! After a major push from “The Betty White to Host SNL (please?)!” Facebook page, the former “Golden Girls” star has said yes and confirmed she will appear on “Saturday Night Live.”

Per Access Hollywood:

“I don’t know why or how,” she said, “but it’s been wonderful.”

Fans launched a massive online push after she appeared in a popular Snickers ad during the Super Bowl. While NBC has yet to officially confirm the news, White, who allegedly signed with Saturday Night Live several weeks ago, confirmed her hosting gig Sunday at Elton John’s annual Oscars party that she will be making an appearance on the late night comedy show this season. There’s no word yet the details of White’s appearance, but rumors are that she will likely to do the show with former “SNL” cast member Molly Shannon some time in May. At 88, White is poised to shatter the record for oldest person to host “SNL.” That honor is currently held by Miskel Spillman, an 80-year-old woman who in 1977 won the show’s “Anyone Can Host” contest.

Betty White’s so hot right now even Robert Pattinson thinks she’s “sexy.”

Robert Pattinson Thinks Betty White Is Sexy – Video

We Dames love our Golden Girls and think there is nothing hotter than a straight man showing an appreciation for them. And its even hotter when that man is none other than Robert Pattinson. While appearing on “The View” with his “Remember Me” co-star Emilie De Ravin to promote his new film, Pattinson shared his affection towards none other than Betty White.

Per Access Hollywood:

“I think Betty White is probably one of the sexiest women in America,” Pattinson said on the talk show Tuesday. “She’s vibrant; it’s sexy. I think the more age, the better.”

Damn that Betty White! She gets all the action! But don’t worry, Kristen Stewart - no need to be worried about White running off with Pattinson just yet because she thinks its hilarious!

“Now THAT is a comedy line!” the 88-year-old actress said.

Take Note, Saturday Night Live – Everyone loves Betty White!

Rue McClanahan Suffered a Stroke

Oh kittens! Let us light a thousand candles in a vigil for Rue McClanahan. The fiercest ho on the “Golden Girls” suffered a stroke shortly after undergoing a heart bypass surgery.

Via America’s Globe Magazine Per Contact Music:

“The 75 year old collapsed in a New York hospital a week after undergoing surgery.
Doctors worked around the clock to remove a blood clot, but feared they’d failed to save MCClanahan’s life.

Wilson says, “Then, her right leg began to move and, not long afterward, she was able to walk a bit.
“They kept her in ICU (intensive care) for two weeks and then put her into the rehab centre. She’s come out of that and is now in a nursing facility.”

While we are all very thankful she has survived the stroke, it has taken a toll on the actress.

“Wilson, who has been married to MCClanahan for 12 years, adds, “She can understand what you are saying in conversation, but still has some trouble speaking. Her speech is slower than it once was and she hasn’t completely recovered on the right side of her body.”

We here at Hollywood Dame wish her the best of health and happiness. We hope she continues to recover and admire her strength.

Rue McClanahan Rips the Ladies of Sex and the City

If you know me, you know that my love for the ‘Golden Girls’ is undying. You can bring along any show you like, feature all the hot female actresses you want, and it won’t hold a candle to Bea, Betty, Estelle, and Rue.

And I am not alone.

Golden Girl Rue MacCalanahan was papped yesterday at New York’s LaGuardia airport and she had some not-so-nice things to say about Kim Catrall and company when one of the photogs compared the original ladies to the ‘Sex and the City ‘girls.

Via TMZ:

“Don’t even mention them” — and adding the GGs are on another level because “Our humor is much better than that.”

In other words, stop trying to fix what was never broken. The ‘Golden Girls’ continues to run in syndication. Check your local listings…I watch it for about 3 hours everyday.

Bea Arthur Remembered

2009 has been a bitch of a year. We have lost many, many talented (and not so talented) celebs and icons.

Though you may scream Michael Jackson was the greatest loss of ’09, I beg to differ. For me, there was no loss as great-and likely never will be-as the loss of Beatrice Arthur.

Bea Arthur was more than a ‘Golden Girl’. She was a true icon, an envelope pusher, a comedic-genius in a world dominated by men. She was a force.

And last night, hundreds gathered at Broadway’s Majestic Theatre to honor the late Bea Arthur in the most fitting way possible: By telling stories using dirty words.

The best story of the night undoubtedly came from fellow ‘Golden Girl,’ Rue MacClanahan who told the packed theater about the time Bea invited her and her husband, Morrow Wilson, to the opening of her one woman broadway show.

Via People:

“McClanahan said an intoxicated Bea told Wilson when he introduced himself to her, “Rue, I love.” But when McClanahan quoted Arthur’s description of another costar on Golden Girls (‘Betty’s a c—’), an audible gasp ricocheted through the crowd – before it erupted into the longest and heartiest laugh of the afternoon.”

Only Bea Arthur could call Betty White teh dreaded “C” word and get away with it.

She was THE BEST!
