Katherine Heigl Submits Self For Emmy, Co-Stars Ask ‘Why?’

Though she only appeared in a handful of episodes this season of “Grey’s Anatomy,” Katherine Heigl has thrown her hat into the ring and submitted herself in the supporting actress category for this year’s Emmy race. Despite her absence for most of the show, Heigl has submitted herself in the Best Supporting Actress category, leaving many – including ex co-star Eric Dane, wondering why.

Per E!:

Reporters asked Eric what he thought of Katherine putting her name in for Best Supporting Actress. His response: “For what?”

“Um, for Grey’s Anatomy,” we gently reminded him on the carpet at the 9th Annual Chrysalis Ball, where he was there with his equally good lookin’ wife Rebecca Gayheart.

“Oh,” Dane said catching himself. “It’s great! Fantastic! I love it! Why?”

Ellen Pompeo has also jumped into the race, vying for the Leading Actress category this year while others like Patrick Dempsey and Sandra Oh are joining Heigl in the supporting category. “Grey’s” itself is rallying for best drama. The two-hour season finale as well as “The Time Warp,” “Suicide is Painless,” “I Saw What I Saw,” and “Give Peace a Chance” episodes have been submitted for consideration. Heigl only appeared in a handful of episodes this year before her character, Dr. Izzie Stevens, was last seen around Seattle Grace in January. She was due back on the set of the ABC drama March 1st but never showed up. ABC Studios said it was mutually agreed upon that Heigl would end her run this season. In 2008, Heigl took herself out of Emmy contention because she didn’t believe the material the writers gave her was worthy of recognition. Nominations for the 62nd Primetime Emmys will be announced July 8th, while NBC will air the Emmys on Aug. 29th.

Amazing. After sabotaging herself and her career for so many years with asinine rants about working hours, working conditions, not feeling that the quality of the writing was up to standard, etc., now suddenly she wants recognition for a season in which she did absolutely nothing spectacular! She did not appear in many episodes at all and chose to leave the show in a lurch and abandon the fans who’d supported her character for many years. I really hope she doesn’t even get a nomination, she doesn’t deserve it.

Izzie-Gate Continues on ‘Grey’s Anatomy’

The never ending slew of rumors surrounding the characters of Izzie Stevens and George O’Malley continues.

Katherine Heigl is off the show one day and back the next. Today she is back despite the uncertainty of her character’s fate. Even Heigl claims she doesn’t know if Izzie lives or dies from stage 4 cancer. However, it seems she might have realized her behavior will cost her. She doesn’t have a plethora of silver screen options. She currently has on 2 other projects aside from Grey’s. So perhaps she has had a change of heart…

“I was assuming that [my character's days were numbered] at one point and I got a lot of shrugged shoulders and shakes of the head, so I don’t know if that’s a yes or a no. No one will tell me and I don’t know how this is going to go. I don’t know if I live or die. I don’t know how Izzie fares.”

“I’m there” if Izzie remains part of “Grey’s Anatomy,” Heigl said. She called the set “one of my favorite places to be” and said her colleagues are also friends.”

Scads of stories and co-stars blabbing about the departure of both Katherine Heigl and T.R. Knight have taken precedent over the show. ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ has turned from one the better shows on tv that combined 60% doctor drama and 40% comedic entertainment. It has now become 95% bitchy divas and 5% gloom and doom.

Can the show be saved? Some changes would have to occur.

1. Return of “The Nazi” and her backbone. Miranda has suddenly become a weepy squishy character who we can no longer depend on.

2. Get rid of Derek and his God complex. McDreamy has become McWeiner-Diva. Seriously… “I need you to play God Derek!” What a load of corny crap. Dr. Shepard has grown a Kanye West sized ego. Let’s dial down from being the Jesus of surgery.

3. Where is the fun factor? There are some potentials with McSteamy and Little Grey. When she broke his “bone” I was elated with the return of that gumption the show once boasted.

4. For the love of good tv… kill off Izzie. Pull the plug on this self centered Mariah Carey of tv.
