New Music Friday – Pixie Lott

Already a massive star in her native U.K., with one million singles sold, two No. 1 hits, and three No. 1 Airplay records to her credit, soulful pop singer and actress Pixie Lott is ready to unleash her talent Stateside this summer. Her debut U.S. single, “Boys and Girls,” is available at all digital service providers this week via Interscope Records.

The high-energy dance-pop jam “Boys and Girls” is 19-year-old Lott’s second consecutive No. 1 single in the U.K., and it’s just a taste of what’s to come when Lott releases her debut album, Turn It Up, in the U.S. in early 2011. Already certified double-platinum in the U.K., Turn It Up features Lott’s songwriting collaborations with RedOne (Lady Gaga), Greg Kurstin (Lily Allen, Sia), Toby Gad (Beyonce, Fergie, Cutfather and Jonas Jeburg (Kylie Minogue, Pussycat Dolls), and Kara DioGuardi.

In addition to releasing five singles in the U.K., Lott has scored three No. 1 Airplay tracks. She is the only U.K. or international recording artist of the last 10 years to have three debut singles hit No. 1 on the U.K. Airplay chart. She has also earned three BRIT Award nominations (including Breakthrough Artist) and a Q Award nomination, and won two MTV Europe Music Awards. This summer, Lott has appeared as support on the British leg of Rihanna’s “Last Girl on Earth” Tour.

An actress since the age of 12, Lott stars alongside Lucas Cruikshank in the feature film “Fred: The Movie“, based on the popular YouTube videos, which will premiere on Nickelodeon on September 17th. She has also been cast alongside Bette Midler, Adrien Brody, and Sharon Stone in the film “Sweet Baby Jesus” — a ’70s flashback comedy from writer Steve Blair and directed by Peter Hewitt.

Earlier this year, Billboard selected Lott as one of its 2010 “Faces to Watch.” She has also been featured in Teen Vogue, Interview, and Nylon, which called her “one of the U.K.’s most promising new pop stars.”

Kara DioGuardi Fired From ‘American Idol’, Steven Tyler In

The revolving door on the “American Idol” judges’ table may be starting to spin out of control. First Simon, then Ellen, and now Kara! Fresh off the heels of Thursday’s shocking news that Ellen DeGeneres would be leaving “Idol” after just one year (read about that here), TMZ reported later in the day that two-season veteran Kara DioGuardi had been fired from the show. No great loss there!

We’re told the show will be going back to a three-judge format and assuming all deals are finalized, the judge’s panel will consist of Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler. We’re told the only way Kara could get a reprieve is if the J-Lo deal falls apart — but we’re told that deal is done.

Reps for Lopez and Tyler have not commented as of yet but Fox is expected to announce the makeup of the new “Idol” judges’ panel on Monday at the Television Critics Association event. Not quite sure the J-Lo and Steven Tyler addition is going to work. I’m still crossing my fingers for Jessica Simpson and Bret Michaels!

Paula Abdul Not Returning To American Idol!?!

paula-abdul-not-reutning-to-american-idol

Uh oh Kittens. It looks like Paula Abdul will not be returning as an American Idol judge next season. I know what you’re thinking: Who will do all the crying and spray the contestants with glitter and unnecessary compliments? Rest easy, they have Ryan Seacrest.

Abdul’s new manager recently did an interview with the Los Angeles Times and in it, he tells the reporter that AI producers haven’t even approached the former Laker Girl about renewing her contract.

Via Access Hollywood:

“I find it under these circumstances particularly unusual; I think unnecessarily hurtful,” he said. “I find it kind of unconscionable and certainly rude and disrespectful that they haven’t stepped up and said what they want to do. Very sadly, it does not appear that she’s going to be back on ‘Idol.’”

This news comes on the heels of host Ryan Seacrest reportedly inking a 3-year $45 million dollar deal to return to the reality show and it is widely known that other AI judge Simon Cowell is currently in negotiations to renew his deal as well. Randy Jackson is already signed-on with the show through 2011. As for Kara DioGuardi? No one really seems to care.

Kris Allen is Your New American Idol

Wow! What an upset! Adam Lambert may have surprised fans all season with his unique vocal capabilities and his dramatic flair but in the end it was the humble boy next door Kris Allen who came out on top! When the married college student from Conway, Arkansas first sang Leon Russell’s “A Song for You” in Louisville auditions, he seemed nothing more than another “Idol” hopeful. Now, he is your Season 8 American Idol!

Per OMG Yahoo:

“I’m sorry, I don’t even know what to feel right now. This is crazy,” said a stunned Allen. “I’m exhausted, and I’m shocked, I’m really shocked.”

Runner-up Adam Lambert had been considered the likely winner since almost the start of the season. His dramatic performances and huge vocal range consistently won the best critiques from the judges week after week while Kris lew under the radar for much of the season. After the results of the voting on Tuesday’s final performance episode were announced, with nearly 100 million votes being cast, Kris was left basically speechless. “Are you serious?” he asked host Ryan Seacrest. “Are you friggin’ serious?” Kris ended the night covered in confetti, singing what will be his first single called “No Boundaries” which was co-written by American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi. As Ryan Seacrest said in announcing the result: “The underdog, the dark horse, comes back and wins the nation over.” Ryan ended the show by reminding us that it’s less than eight months till next January, when this starts all over again.

Congratulations to Kris!!!

Kara DioGuardi Exposes Bikini Body on ‘Idol’ Stage

New ‘American Idol’ judge Kara DioGuardi has showed America this year that she is an average judge at best.  The song the finalists sang on Tuesday, written by DioGuardi, has been widely trashed across the internet as well.

RESULTS: Kris Allen Wins ‘American Idol’ Season 8

But almost every man and perv in American can agree after last night’s singing performance by DioGuardi, exposing her tight body in a black bikini, with Katrina ‘Bikini Girl’ Darrell, that she is in fact doing something very, very good.

Paula Abdul and Kara DioGuardi: American Idol Catfight!

American Idol isn’t quite what it used to be. Paula Abdul still loves everyone, Randy Jackson is fat again, and Simon Cowell’s eye rolls and nipple rubs are so Bo Bice’s season it bores me. The producers must have felt the same this season and thought that throwing Kara DioGuardi into the mix would fix everything. The only result they received from my house is one less viewer.

However, according to OK! Magazine, Kara’s welcome is nearly worn out and none other than “You look beautiful tonight” Paula is letting her know it. Cat-fight on! Bring out the claws and I may start watching again.

Via OK! Magazine:

“The plan to add a fourth person backfired. Now the producers are left with a tough decision: Do they go back to the original three-judge format, or leave Kara there?”

This comes on the cusp of rumors that Simon Cowell may also be “out” for season nine-a season which Fox still has yet to confirm will even happen. All four of the current judges are in contract negotiations.

I have to admit, though I rag Paula at times, I seriously only watched American Idol to see what drunken rants she would make or whose song would make her weep. Kara does nothing for me. It seems her main purpose is to argue with Simon which no one wants to listen to. Perhaps she should boost some of Paula’s Quaaludes or drink some Jesus Juice with Michael Jackson to help gain fanage.

American Idol Catfight?!

I was saying it was only going to be a matter of time that Paula Abdul would stop being supportive of Kara DioGuardi. Ok, maybe not aloud to anyone, but I thought it! Thank you New York Post for this little nugget! Of course, it isn’t personal, according to Abdul, it’s like all business!

“Kara and I have known each other for years and we get along great, but we tried four judges before and it doesn’t work. It takes up so much time for each of us to give our opinion that it slows down the pace of the show.”

I know that during the episodes when celebrity judges were on I was all “Hurry UP!”. I would like to thank Paula for bringing this issue to light. I was afraid it might carry on past this season. And what is Idol going to do this season when those celebrity judges come back and there are five of them? How badly will the flow be disrupted then?

And I think DioGuardi was the bigger person in her response to what Abdul said:

“Paula has a right to her opinions, but I was disappointed by her comments, and hurt that she did not address them to me in person.”

My hope is that Paula will fire back with something incoherent and hopefully drug-induced.
