Alex Band’s Listening Party For His Solo Debut ‘We’ve All Been There’ Out Today

After The Calling disbanded in 2005, the release of singer Alex Band’s solo album “We’ve All Been There” has been a long time coming. With his record actually completed in 2007, a restructuring of his label left the release in limbo. Since then, Alex has spent the last few years regaining control of the master recordings and establishing his own label, AMB Records, partnering with EMI for distribution. “I’ve finally got creative control, which is the main reason I went through all of this,” he says. “So now I’m starting completely over as a solo artist and reintroducing myself to the world.” Today, he is proud to release his solo debut We’ve All Been There, featuring the hit single “Tonight.”

Alex says of his album – which charts the course of a relationship from start to finish – “It’s definitely about my own struggle, but I think everyone can relate to what I’ve been through from experiences in their lives. I think everything I’m talking about on the record is pretty universal. And knowing now that I’m writing for different cultures, with fans around the world, it’s important that what I’m writing about is generalized enough that people can take the songs in their own way.”

We’ve All Been There is available in stores and online – grab it now on iTunes. Starting July 7th, Alex will play a few dates with friend and Live vocalist Ed Kowalczyk before kicking off his first headlining tour in six years. For a full list of tour dates and details visit AlexBand.net.

Bryant Gumble Underwent Surgery For Lung Cancer

bryant gumble lung cancer

While co-hosting “Live! with Regis and Kelly” on Tuesday morning, veteran news anchor Bryant Gumbel revealed that he had a secret surgery to remove a malignant tumor in his chest, shocking Kelly Ripa and a national audience. The treatment included removing a part of his lung.

Per People:

“We had told a few people, we told my family, obviously. I even kept it from my staff at Real Sports. So I’m okay for the time being,” he said. “I’m hoping they greenlight me to play golf again.”

Gumbel said that he had surgery last month to relieve a malignant tumor in his chest, a revelation prompted only when Ripa asked him to dance and he said that he couldn’t. Gumble is subbing this week for Regis Philbin, who last week underwent surgery himself – a successful hip replacement. The prognosis for Gumbel so far has been encouraging.

Per TV Plus:

“The pathology on most of the stuff came up benign but enough of the aggressive cells had escaped the tumor that it warranted some treatment. I went through that and it’s over now. We hope that it’s over and done.”

We hope it is, too!

Michael Buble Defends Britney Spears

michael-buble

Michael Buble has come to Britney Spears defense as the controversy surrounding her lip-synced shows in Australia, blasting Australian journalists for their harsh criticism of Spears and suggesting that they need to lay off the singer.

He says, “You’d think she killed someone. As an artist, and a human being, some of what has been written about her is so nasty. OK, she lip-syncs her show, people know that, they make the decision if they want to go and see her do that.”

Earlier this month, Spears was forced to respond and squash rumors of a mass walk-out during one of her concerts when the press reported that fans left angry and disgusted over the realization that she was not singing live. Buble says that he doesn’t feel as though Spears should be ‘bashed by the media’ because he, too, lip-synchs his concerts, referring to himself as the ‘Milli Vanilli of jazz.’ Has anyone ever really heard Britney sing live? Without the help of the magical-music-making-machines behind her, its not a pretty sound. Trust me, lip-synching for her is the way to go!

New Music Friday – Muse

If you are a fan of the “Twilight” series, then you more than likely have heard of Muse, who had a hit off the movies’ soundtrack with the song titled “Supermassive Black Hole,” and the song “I Belong To You (New Moon Remix)” off the next movie in the saga “New Moon.” Considered to be an alternative rock band who formed in the early 90s from Teignmouth, England, the band consists of longtime friends Matthew Bellamy, Chris Wolstenholme, and Dominic Howard. They’ve changed band names a number of times (from names such as Gothic Plague, Fixed Penalty, and Rocket Baby Dolls) before finally deciding on the name Muse. Their sound is a blend of alternative rock, classical, electronica, metal, spanish guitars, and progressive rock.

The band is known for their energetic live performances and front man Bellamy’s avid interests in unconventional things such as global conspiracy, extraterrestrial life, theology and the apocalypse. Their lyrical themes involve madcap conspiracy theory, revolutionary rabble-rousing, weird stuff about aliens, religions and other such classic Muse concerns. They have won many musical awards over the years, including 5 MTV Europe Awards 5 Q Awards, 6 NME Awards, and 2 BRIT Awards. The majority of these awards have been attributed to their live performances.

Muse have been heavily involved with “Teenage Cancer Trust,” a charity that focuses on the needs of teenagers and young adults with cancer, leukemia, Hodgkin’s and related diseases. They have performed at the Royal Albert Hall where they donated all money made from the merchandise stands to the charity. In September of 2008 all three members were awarded Honorary Doctorates of the Arts by Plymouth University.

Muse has released five studio albums, with their latest released this September titled “The Resistance.” It is the first Muse album to have been produced by the band itself. On its release, it topped the album charts in 19 countries and reached number 3 on the American album charts. The first single off the album, “Uprising,” has reached #1 on the Billboard Hot Alternative Songs chart becoming their 6th Top 10 single and first #1 on that chart. You can check out the video for the single above.

Joss Stone and Lilly Allen Cat Fight!

lily allen 130709joss-stone-header.jpg

Joss Stone is obviously not a Lily Allen fan! In a recent interview, Stone may have started up a bit of a feud when she shared her thoughts on the fellow Brit’s stance on file sharing, believing music should be shared for free whenever possible while Lily has campaigned to make internet file sharing a criminal offense.

Per DigitalSpy:

“She needs to sell records because she’s not a singer, and that’s not an offence to her because I think that she knows that too,” she told The Mirror. “I think she’s a performer and she’s more of a personality than she is a singer. But I think when musicians are really making real music people come to the show and that’s what we make our money from, from playing live. I think it’s probably harder for an artist like Lily and any other pop acts. It’s really about the track and about their personality and their celebrity and that’s how they make their money is selling those records. So the downloads – she’s not going to win that fight. None of us will win that fight. So let’s just accept it and let’s see it as something that can be beautiful and it might change music for the better. It might sort the weeds from the flowers.”

Meow! I just love it when someone so irrelevant takes a stab at someone more successful then they are, trying to gain a little bit of the limelight. You may have bitten off a little more than you can chew, Joss! Oooo I can’t WAIT to see Lily’s rebuttal on this one!

New Music Friday – Dead By Sunrise

Out Of Ashes,” the debut from the side project of Linkin Park’s frontman Chester Bennington’s new band, is here. Dead by Sunrise started to form in 2005 while Bennington was writing songs for Linkin Park’s “Minutes to Midnight” Album. The band also features Ryan Shuck and Amir Derakh (from Orgy/Julien-K), bassist Brandon Belsky, drummer Elias Anda (also from Julien-K), and keyboardist Anthony Valcic.

Per Dead By Sunrise:

“I came up with a few songs that felt and sounded really good, but I knew they weren’t right stylistically for Linkin Park. They were darker and moodier than anything I’d come up with for the band. So I decided to work on them on my own rather than turn them over and have them transformed into Linkin Park tracks,” says Bennington.

The band’s name, which was previously “Snow White Tan,” reflects the time during the album’s recording in which the band was living a ‘really self destructive lifestyle’ and weren’t sure they were going to make it to the next day. Bennington says the albums’ name is from ‘coming out of that self-destructive path and rising from the ashes.’ Back on May 10, 2008, the band performed three songs, including the song “Morning After,” at the 13th anniversary party for Club Tattoo in Arizona. The song was written by Bennington and originally performed on December 9, 2001 at the Live in Berlin concert. This was the first time that he had officially performed the song under a new name.

Recording of the band’s debut album began in July 2008 after touring for Linkin Park had finished. “Crawl Back In” is the first official single off the album, followed by “Let Down.” Dead by Sunrise’s MySpace page is featuring the video for the band’s first single, and will hold an exclusive listening party for its debut album on their page this week. Fans will be able to stream the album, which will be released by on October 13th, in its entirety on Myspace from October 8th through the 10th. MySpace will direct users to the listening party via links on both the site’s homepage and its music page. They are scheduled to perform at The Gramercy Theatre in New York City on October 14th, and at the Roxy in Los Angeles on October 19th. You can watch the video for the song “Crawl Back In” above. Blink 182 Performing on Jimmy Kimmel – Photos and Videos

Last night Blink 182 resurrected themselves on Jimmy Kimmel. Travis Barker was shirtless behind the drums. They started with a classic song, “What’s My Age Again.”

They followed with 7 other songs doing a total of 9 if you are keeping up with the math. The band originally promised 5 and delivered a few more after enjoying themselves. Mark Twittered his glee after the set.

Closing with “Dammit,” they went out on a high note. As Jimmy mentioned several times, their summer tour starts July 24th.
