Hollywood Dame Exclusive Interview: Lolene

Before she had recorded a note of her debut album, Lolene had already chosen its inspired title: The Electrick Hotel. “I call it The Electrick Hotel because when you put the album on, you’re my guest. I’m going to take care of you,” says the British singer, songwriter, and performer. “You’re invited to come and stay a while in my world, which I see as like a hotel where each song is a room that captures a different part of my personality and expresses different emotions. So if you’re feeling happy, you can go to the penthouse and dance to ‘Sexy People.’ If you’re heartbroken, you can visit the first-floor and have a cry to ‘Beautiful Disaster.’”

Lolene began writing songs and singing backing vocals for trip-hop artist Martina Topley-Bird (known for her work with Tricky) and local drum-and-bass pioneer Roni Size. After completing school, she moved to London and fronted an all-girl pop vocal group signed to a development deal at BMG Records. She wrote all the group’s material and realized she had a knack for writing melodies and lyrics.

It was during this time in London that Lolene acquired her nickname “Miss Foo Foo,” bestowed on her by a friend who watched Lolene drool over expensive items she couldn’t afford as the two window-shopped on London’s swanky Kings Road. “’Miss Foo Foo’ is the name of my company as well as my naughty alter ego,” Lolene says. “She’s the heightened, fabulous, eccentric part of my personality — the girl who wants it all right now. She lives in a world of heartbreak and handbags. She’s a chaser of dreams.” Miss Foo Foo is boujis (a British expression meaning to be fancy or posh) — the type who hangs out in London’s chic, ultra-private nightclubs.

Glam as it may have been, the London scene wasn’t enough to contain someone as driven as Lolene. Armed with nothing but a suitcase and a demo CD, she moved to Hollywood in search of her big break. Based on Lolene’s songwriting talent, multi-platinum producer Jonathan “J.R.” Rotem signed her to his publishing label Beluga Heights/Sony ATV. She went to work collaborating with such heavy-hitters as Andreas Carlsson (Backstreet Boys, ’N Sync, Celine Dion), Christopher Rojas (Pink, Backstreet Boys, Joss Stone), Makeba Riddick (Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, Beyonce), Evan Bogart (The Writing Camp), Danja (Britney Spears, Nelly Furtado, Timbaland), Harvey Mason Jr. (Underdogs), and Christina Milian, for whom Lolene penned the single “Diamonds” featuring Kanye West.

Recently, I had the chance to ask Lolene about things such as her music, goals, and musical inspirations. You can read about it below.

When did you first realize you had an interest in music and what sparked that interest?

I went to my first dance class at age 2 and since then I have been dancing, singing and performing in some way or another. I specifically remember listening to Mariah Carey and Kylie Minogue in my bedroom and realizing that this is what I wanted to do.

How did you break into the music industry?

I broke in through the back window, turned the nob and ran up the stairs! But seriously, I got my break through song-writing.

How would you describe the sound of your music, and what makes you feel like your album is different from the other artists in your genre?

I would describe my music as awkward universal pop. I make music to uplift and inspire people in some way. So there is definitely positive elements to my music. It’s also very electrosexual! But I don’t feel I’m in a position to describe how my music differs. I leave that to the good ears of my listeners.

What are some of your plans for promoting your album – do you plan on doing some touring?

Absolutely, I love to perform live, so you will definitely be catching me at a venue near you. I plan on being everywhere, including under your bed.

Musically speaking, what are some of your short term and long term goals you have lined out for yourself? What are your hopes for the upcoming year?

Universal pop domination and to continue making great music for the most amazing fans in the world.

Lyrically speaking, where do your song inspirations come from? Is it easy for you to sit down and write lyrics, or is it a bit of a challenge sometimes?

Writing lyrics comes naturally to me. i started as a poet and this is a gift I’ve been blessed with. I am truly inspired by tragedy and triumph and everything in between, I could literally write a song about anything, and I am really thankful for this gift.

Who are some of your musical interests and influences?

I am hugely influenced by Madonna, Kate Bush and Rick James. They are true showmen and entertainers. I also love Joan Collins and Cher. I really like music from the 90′s.

Who are some artists you’d like to work with?

Without a doubt Kate Bush. I would also really like to collaborate with Blondie, Ace of Base, Empire of the Sun and Prince.

What is the experience like to be out somewhere and be recognized by a fan?

It’s all still very new to me and I have to admit the first time did trip me out for a good minute. This is because you are in your own private world of creation for so long, like the studio or rehearsal room and so you forget there is a world out there sometimes. It can catch you off guard for sure. But I appreciate it and understand this is something I signed up for.

Besides music, what are some of your other interests and hobbies?

Food, I love to cook and eat. I am a total spa enthusiast also. And of course, cocktail mixologist!

Madonna’s Vodka Temper Tantrum at Elton John’s After Party

Madonna Mask

Madonna reportedly had a little bit of a hissy fit during Sir Elton John’s intimate pre-Oscars party when the bartender couldn’t provide her with her favorite vodka. She asked organizers to provide her with her favorite Belvedere vodka, instead of the Grey Goose, who was sponsoring the party – which is what caused Madge to flip her shiz!

Per Mirror:

“It was left to one rather nervous waiter to tell her only Grey Goose was available and when he did all hell broke loose. Madonna was dropping F-bombs like they were going out of fashion. Fortunately Guy [Oseary] was able to calm her down. But she sulked about the vodka and ordered a non-alcoholic virgin mojito instead. She was clearly up for a drink, but wasn’t prepared to compromise on her vodka choice.”

Wow, thats weird! Only Grey Goose at a party sponsored by Grey Goose? Who would have thought? Seems like she’s getting a little finicky in her old age! That incident apparently seemed to set the mood for the rest of the Material Girls’ night – resulting in her rudely snubbing Jane Fonda.

“Jane spotted Madonna and yelled, ‘Hey Madonna! It’s me… Jane’. But Madonna didn’t even turn to look at her and just said, ‘Hey Jane’ as she marched past.”

Apparently Madonna has no social skills unless she is drunk or talking about herself.

Lady Gaga and Britney Spears Duet

lady-gaga-crazy-outfit-1.jpg

Turns out the Lady is Gaga about Britney Spears! Lady Gaga’s father arranged for her to duet with Spears while she was in the bathroom at the Grammy Awards. And thanks to that conversation, we may soon be hearing these two powerhouses collide as soon as Lady’s Monster Ball tour wraps up. Gaga originally penned the song “Telephone” for Spears but she never used it on an album so Beyonce and Lady Gaga released it on their own.

Per Star:

“I wrote it for her a long time ago, and she just didn’t use it,” Gaga says. “It’s fine because I love the song, and it’s exciting I get to perform it now.”

Spears is no stranger to collaborating with music’s biggest stars. Lady Gaga has already shared duets with Elton John, Beyonce, The Pet Shop Boys and Madonna. Who knows what they could come up with together – Lady Gaga and Britney could be something special.

Madonna Dumped by Jesus

madonna-and-jesus-luz

After just recently being rumored to be trying for a baby (read about that here), Madonna and boy-toy Jesus Luz have reportedly split. The Brazilian underwear model called off their relationship, citing their age difference and basically having nothing in common.

Per Sun Times:

It not only was totally amicable, but it was Luz who initiated the split. Apparently, the 23-year-old Brazilian realized their age difference (she’s 51) and overall lack of mutual interests nixed a long-term relationship.

Fueling the break up rumor even more, author Ian Halperin claimed that Madonna was recently caught making out with mid seventies man, who is allegedly a retired Wall Street exec, at the Kabbalah center.

Per Ian Undercover:

Sources close to the singer said the Material Girl is tired of dating “shallowless toy boys”. The older man, a retired Wall Street exec, has been a regular at the center for almost 20 years, according to one of the centers’ longtime practitioners. “They’re definitely an item,” the source confirmed.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go check on my Grampy Marty and make sure he doesn’t have Madge secretly bringing him fruit cups.

Madonna Wants a Baby Jesus

madonna-and-jesus.jpg

Someone really needs to remind her that she is over a half-century old! Madonna is hoping to add a 5th child to her family… but not through adoption. Apparently, she wants to conceive a child with her 22 year old Brazilian model boyfriend Jesus Luz, who she’s been dating around 2 years now. Has she not already got a new baby in Jesus?

Per NME:

The 51-year-old, who split with husband Guy Ritchie in 2008, has reportedly consulted doctors and fertility specialists about conceiving another child, after Luz apparently told her that becoming a father would be his “greatest adventure”.

Jesus is said to be as keen to have a baby with his pop superstar lover, always wanting to have children, and has said he ‘wanted to go on this journey for her.’ Madonna has reportedly told friends that Jesus would make a ‘fantastic dad.’

Per The Sun:

“She knows that, at 51, it’s going to be harder to conceive naturally. But she is Olympic-athlete fit and is ready for the challenge.”

I’m sorry, but shouldn’t Madge’s vag be in retirement right now, since menopause should have already started? However, she is unlikely to make him her third husband, with Jesus previously saying he was not ready to get married. Madonna, is already mother to her two biological children Lourdes and Rocco and two adopted children, David and Mercy. I think its a little too late for her. But who better than to have it with than Ms. Material Girl? She’ll most likely die way before he does, setting him and the baby up for life. It’s obviously not just the women who are gold diggers nowadays.

Lindsay Lohan Threesome for Muse – Photos

lindsay-lohan-threesome-for-muse-photos-1

Lindsay Lohan has been equated with Kate Moss. While I get that coke fiends stick together, I don’t see the resemblance…even with her best Sunday weave on.

A photographer for Muse decided to interpret Johnny Depp and Kate Moss’ courtship into a photo spread for Muse magazine. Of course, it was turned into a threesome featuring Sofia Boutella (dancer for Madonna) and Petey Wright (male model).

Photographer Yu Tsai told Page Six: “I was always fascinated by Johnny Depp and Kate Moss, and when I asked Lindsay to do a shoot, she jumped at the chance. It was all about her being sexy, channeling Kate from the ’90s. When I suggested adding another girl, Lindsay invited Sofia.

“The three of them were very sensual and provocative, but Lindsay understands this piece was created not for any sensational value other than artistic integrity,” Tsai said. “There was never a discussion about pushing the boundaries. She was totally comfortable with the nudity as long as it had artistic integrity.

“When you see her nipple, it just happened in the moment. She was playing the role of Kate Moss — you’re at a party and you are with a guy you really love and another girl.

“She is stunning and radiates in the pictures. Lindsay is incredibly focused where it comes to her career and fashion is her passion. It’s raw, it’s exposed, this is her at her best. She told me: ‘I want to make this iconic.”

Sorry Lindsay. The floppy boob thing was already done by Janet Jackson. I am sure he really had to twist her arm to get her to agree to add a girl to her sexy times photo shoot. This is one request short of a magical genie granting her 3 wishes. If I wake up tomorrow and every club in L.A. is covered in 3 inches of blow I am going to be going genie hunting.

Adam Lambert Defends His Over-The-Top Performance

adam-lambert-2009-amas-performance-1

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, or you’re just now waking up from your vodka & cranberry induced hangover, then you’ve heard about Adam Lamberts‘ way over the top lol-tastic AMA closing performance last night singing his new single “For Your Entertainment.” (Check it out here.) Now Lambert is speaking out, giving no apologies for his sexually-charged performance which angered parents who quickly began posting messages of disgust online.

Per StarPulse:

“I’m hoping people were entertained. For those who weren’t, maybe I’m not their cup of tea. I’m just trying to have a good time onstage. It’s a sexy song. It’s 2009; it’s time to take more risks. It’s about entertainment. People want to be surprised. It’s too bad that people are so scared.”

In addition to starting the performance out by dragging a female dancer around by her ankles, pushing a male dancer’s head into his gyrating crotch, snapping the bikini area of another female’s costume, flipping off the crowd, walking a pair of male dancers around on a leash, and taking every opportunity to thrust his hips and remind us all that he’s a very limber guy, Lambert took a moment mid-song to play tonsil hockey with his straight keyboard player on the spur of the moment. When asked how he would feel if the performance was edited for West Coast viewers, Lambert said he would not be happy.

“If it’s gonna be edited, then in a way that’s discrimination. I don’t mean to get political, but Madonna, Britney and Christina (kissing at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards) weren’t edited. It’s a shame. Female entertainers have been risqué for years. Honestly, there’s a huge double standard.”

ABC had to quickly cut to an audience shot during the performance when Lambert had a male dancer simulate oral sex on him, and at least some portion of that performance (presumably the latter) did not get approved beforehand, and was cited as being too racy to repeat on the west coast airing. Critical reaction to Lambert’s performance mixed, with some applauding his boldness but more questioning the over-the-top nature of what can only be described as him trying too hard to be noticed and taken seriously. Luckily, he gets a semi do-over tonight on Letterman where he will hopefully tone down the antics and concentrate more on what he should be known for – the singing. Adam sounded like a lounge act in Reno last night. This kid is trying too hard to be “edgy” and “controversial”. Not of fan of his cheap tricks to get fame. It was all “For HIS Entertainment.”

Madonna NOT Dead

Here is your daily NOT Dead Report

madonna-not-dead-3.jpg

Madonna and LL Cool J are both alive and well. While the stream of celebrities meeting their end continues to trickle, the latest being Soupy Sales, Madge and LL are not a part of the fallen stars. As usual searches that lead you to “info on their deaths” just give you the gift of spyware and viruses.

In fact, Madonna is getting her do-gooding on and setting up her Raising Malawi Academy For Girls school. It’s kinda like the slutty version of Oprah’s school in South Africa where the children will learn about pleather thigh high boots and how to piss off Elton John and the Pope.
