Amy Locane, the actress who played Sandy to Grant Show’s Jake in the original cast of “Melrose Place,” has been charged with second-degree vehicular homicide after a car accident in New Jersey on Sunday evening. The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office says Locane, who was driving a Chevy Tahoe, ran into the passenger side of a Mercury Milan in Montgomery, New Jersey, as it was turning into a driveway and killing a woman who was sitting in the front seat.
Per TMZ:
The driver of the car was flown to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. Locane was arrested at the scene for DUI and taken to a different hospital for treatment.
Locane confessed to police that she’d consumed several glasses of wine before getting behind the wheel. Officers said she smelled of alcohol, and they reported that her eyes were bloodshot and glassy and that her speech was slurred. Locane was arraigned in Somerset County court Monday afternoon and bail was set at $50,000. She also faces a charge of third-degree assault by auto after she reportedly rear-ended a car in Princeton shortly before the fatal crash, according to a prosecutor’s statement. When the driver of the other car tried to call police, the actress got back into her SUV and drove off ‘swerving and knocking down several mailboxes’ a witness told police. If convicted, she faces five to ten years in prison.
Ironic. Locane once portrayed a young person nick-named “Narc” about trying to convince a kid not to drive drunk in 1985′s “Young People Special.” Sad that she didn’t let the role influence her choices. Was getting bombed worth ending someones life and causing so much suffering?
