Jessica Simpson Returns to Reality TV

Jessica Simpson is returning to do what she does best… Reality TV. VH1′s “The Price of Beauty” will take Simpson all over the world in search of what people find beautiful and why in all sorts of different cultures. Part of Jessicas’ job will be to study local fashions, dietary fads and beauty regimes of local women, even participating in some of the extreme practices she discovers. Simpson said she was immediately intrigued by the concept of doing a show about true beauty.

Per Us:

“I have always believed that beauty comes from within and confidence will always make a woman beautiful, but I know how much pressure some women put on themselves to look perfect,” she said in a statement Monday.

“I am really looking forward to discovering how beauty is perceived in different cultures and participating in some of the crazy things people do to feel beautiful,” she continued. “I know we will all learn a lot on this journey and I am so excited that VH1 is coming along on what I’m sure will be a wild ride.”

Wild ride indeed. This should be quite the learning adventure for the girl who once couldn’t distinguish between tuna and chicken. Simpson has come under fire from the media and magazines for her appearance lately, starting when she appeared onstage wearing unflattering high-waisted jeans back in January (read about that here.)

Shooting for the new series begins in mid-july, with a premiere date scheduled for early 2010. Jessica and her creepy father Joe will serve as executive producers. Hopefully this show will be a lot more successful than her previous one on MTV with ex husband Nick Lachey called “Newlyweds“. Either way, with Jessica Simpson involved it ought to be entertaining.

2009-mtv-movie-awards-2-robert-pattinson-and-kristen-stewart

The MTV Movie Awards were held last night, and to no one’s surprise, “Twilight” was the big winner. The night started with the vampire franchise winning the Best Fight award for Robert Pattinson’sEdward’ vs. Cam Giganet’sJames’ showdown in the ballet studio.

Sparklepants also picked up the award for Best Breakout Performance-male, Kristen Stewart took home the Best Female Performance award, and the two shared the coveted Best Kiss popcorn statuette beating out Sean Penn and James Franco’s man-on-man lip lock from the film “Milk”. “Twilight” also won Best Movie.

For those of you who joined us on the LiveChat over at Bumpshack.com, we hoped you enjoyed yourself and made it through our online screeching and screaming during the “New Moon” trailer. (See it by clicking here.)

The highlight of the evening in my opinion was the arrival of Bruno aka Sasha Baron Cohen. He came floating down from the sky, dressed like a nude angel, and planted his man parts right on the chin of rapper Eminem. Then all hell broke loose. A clearly upset Em began to drop F bombs faster than the censors could hit their little black button, and well, the rest is MTV History.

Via US Weekly:

“It is not yet known if the rapper was in on the joke. But once Cohen was off Eminem, the rapper jumped up and stormed out of the theater with his bodyguards, as Zac Efron was named the winner of the category.”

Zac Efron tried to use his hair to distract the crowd as Eminem stormed out of the amphitheater. It didn’t work. Your hair is so last year Efron.

Exclusive Interview With “Celebrity Rehab” Host Dr. Drew Pinsky

Dr. Drew Pinsky is known for his various television shows, such as VH1’s “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew” and “Celebrity Rehab Presents: Sober House,” along with the MTV show, “Sex…With Mom and Dad” which just began its second season.

He is the service Director of the Chemical Dependency Program/Residential Treatment Center at Las Encinas Hospital in Pasadena, California, has hosted the syndicated radio program “Loveline” for over twenty-five years, and is the author of two books.

I was lucky enough to score a phone interview with the incredibly busy doc as he waited to catch a flight to New York this afternoon (where he reportedly sat a mere five feet away from Alec Baldwin) and we discussed his many projects.

To begin, I asked Dr. Drew to give me the gist of his MTV program “Sex…with Mom and Dad.” He explained that the show focuses on teenagers and young people who are “…acting out” sexually and lack “…emotional contact with their parents,” thus leaving both the parents and the kids in denial about the situation. I used this as an opportunity to ask Dr. Drew about having the dreaded ‘sex talk’ with his own children, triplets who are currently in their late teens. He replied:

“It’s important to understand that there should be no ‘sex talk’ at all…this freaks kids out. Rather, an open dialogue between children and their parents [regarding sex] should begin around the age of twelve. Parents should answer questions without creating an agenda.”

He explained that his daughter began asking questions at five years old, his sons, however, were slightly different:

“[The] boys closed down. When they began talking about [sex] they talked to their mother.”

I was also more interested in learning about Dr. Drew’s new book, “The Mirror Effect: How Celebrity Narcissism is Seducing America” due in stores March 17 (you can also pre-order a copy from Amazon.com).

According to an editorial review, the book discusses how celebrity figures, like Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan, along with their media-enablers, have changed what is considered to be ‘normal behavior’.

When I asked Dr. Drew to tell me a little something about the book he stated that celebrities “…are sick. They suffer from traits of clinical narcissism; always needing narcissistic gratification. ” According to the good doc, celebrities from Britney Spears to Robert Pattinson suffer from traits that may include vanity, exhibitionism, superiority, and entitlement. This then leads non-celebs to “mirror” celebrity behavior using outlets like YouTube and internet blogging.

He went on to explain that non-celebrities, “…have their own desire to glorify people until they become envious of that person [and] then tear them down.”

For those of you, like me, who can’t get enough of Dr. Drew’s VH1 programs “Celebrity Rehab” and “Sober House,” fear not! I managed to ask the Doc right before he boarded the plane if he ever worries that the celebs that sign up to be on those programs join the cast more for publicity than for help.

“We are always concerned with what motivates a patient to seek treatment. I have found that if you pay them to show-up and pay them to stay-in, they stay longer and increase their chance of getting better.”

If only there was enough money to pay all the Amy Winehouses in the world to go to rehab.

I want to thank Dr. Drew Pinsky for finding the time in his busy schedule to talk with me today. You can catch “Sex…with Mom and Dad” on MTV Weekdays at 4 ET/PT.
