Billy Joel ‘Live at Shea Stadium’ CD/DVD GIVEAWAY!!

Film of Singer’s Historic 2008 Concerts Closing America’s Cradle of Stadium Rock Includes Performances By Guest Artists Paul McCartney, Tony Bennett, Garth Brooks and John Mayer + DVD/Blu-ray Featuring Bonus Duets with Steven Tyler, Roger Daltrey and John Mellencamp.

Arrives in stores today – March 8th, 2011.

On Tuesday, March 8, Columbia/Legacy will release, for the very first time, ‘Billy Joel – Live at Shea Stadium,’ a full-length music film of Billy Joel’s historic shows in July 2008 marking the last-ever concerts at rock’s first great arena venue.

Billy Joel – Live At Shea Stadium will be available in a 2 CD/1 DVD set as well as a stand-alone DVD and stand-alone Blu-ray.

The full-concert companion to the acclaimed Lionsgate documentary “The Last Play At Shea,” Billy Joel Live At Shea Stadium features more than two hours of Billy and his band offering definitive, and often transcendent versions of hits, rarities, deep catalog, personal favorites and crowd-pleasing surprises including duets with guest artists Paul McCartney (“I Saw Her Standing There,” “Let It Be”), Tony Bennett (“New York State of Mind”), Garth Brooks (“Shameless”) and John Mayer (“This Is The Time”) along with exclusive DVD/Blu-ray bonus performances with Steven Tyler (“Walk This Way”), Roger Daltrey (“My Generation”) and John Mellencamp (“Pink Houses”).

Built in 1964, Shea Stadium was the home of the New York Mets for 45 years. Designed as a multi-purpose stadium, Shea became the birthplace of arena rock when the Beatles appeared there August 15, 1965, establishing the ballpark as a pinnacle venue for rock’s biggest names: The Who, The Police, The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen and others have all played Shea.

Chosen as the last rock act to play the venue, Billy Joel staged his “Last Play At Shea” concerts on July 16 and July 18, 2008, rocking a combined audience of 110,000 fans with one of the most emotionally charged shows ever played at the historic stadium. After 45 years, two New York Mets World Series victories, the arena debut of The Beatles and Billy Joel’s “The Last Play At Shea,” the final section of Shea Stadium was torn down in 2009.

A broadcast edition of Billy Joel – Live At Shea Stadium will premiere on PBS Great Performances in March.

Black Eyed Peas Locked In For Super Bowl XLV Halftime Show

We can thank Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson for the last six years of mediocre Super Bowl halftime shows. Next year however, I gotta feeling you’ll notice a big difference – The Black Eyed Peas are the confirmed Super Bowl XLV halftime show headliners! Since the “wardrobe malfunction” of 2004, pressure from the FCC has forced networks to book more seasoned acts such as Paul McCartney, Prince and the Who. But it all changes as The Black Eyed Peas are set to take the stage at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas for Super Bowl XLV!

Per RollingStone:

“They could have picked anybody,” will.i.am tells Rolling Stone. “They could rock a million and get Cheap Trick. I love me some Cheap Trick, those motherf*****s is dope. But it says something that they picked us.”

No word yet on what songs the Peas will perform, but it’s sure to be one killer medley of hits! The only wardrobe malfunction we can expect to see is will.i.am‘s LEGO hat! Did you see that thing at the American Music Awards?! Comfortable? We think not…

‘The 4 Complete Ed Sullivan Shows Starring The Beatles’ DVD GIVEAWAY!!

When The Beatles stepped onto Sullivan’s New York stage on Sunday, February 9, 1964, to make their American TV debut, 86 percent of all TVs on at that hour – 73 million Americans – tuned in. It was the most-watched program in history to that point and remains one of the most-watched programs of all time.

Nearly 50 years after the four landmark live performances of The Beatles on “The Ed Sullivan Show,” those legendary appearances with newly remastered audio and carefully restored video will finally be made available worldwide on home video through a major distributor. It was announced today by Universal Music Enterprises (UMe) and SOFA Entertainment that “The 4 Complete Ed Sullivan Shows Starring The Beatles” was released September 7, 2010, by UMe, a division of Universal Music Group, the world’s leading music company. The 4 Complete Ed Sullivan Shows Starring The Beatles was produced by SOFA Entertainment.

“The Beatles changed music and popular culture forever,” says Bruce Resnikoff, President & CEO, UMe. “This DVD collection contains treasured performances and UME is thrilled to bring these milestones of music and television history to fans, whether they saw the shows the first time or have never seen them.”

“We used the full extent of today’s technology,” says Andrew Solt, Executive Producer and CEO of SOFA Entertainment, which purchased all 1,050 hours of “The Ed Sullivan Show” in 1990. “The quality is better than it ever was, in fact, better than when the shows aired, especially visually. For example, the February 16 performance was from Miami’s Deauville Hotel, not from a studio. The quality of the tape image was very fragile. We went back and improved it frame by frame.”

With a running time of more than 250 minutes, The 4 Complete Ed Sullivan Shows Starring The Beatles presents those shows uncut, including not only all of the other performances but also all of the original commercials. The audio is available in both mono and a 5.1 remix. Also included on the two-DVD set will be material from other “Sullivan” shows, notably a short interview with The Beatles which has not been seen since its original television airing in 1964.

Few moments of The Beatles’ performances had ever been seen before a similar DVD package debuted in 2003, but distribution was via a small independent company. Now through UMe, The 4 Complete Ed Sullivan Shows Starring The Beatles will be widely available at traditional retail as well as non-traditional retail such as book stores, major department stores, specialty and high-end stores.

In addition, the new DVD set has been augmented with approximately 13 minutes of additional footage. The added material, rare Beatles-related gems from other “Sullivan” shows, is placed at the end of each disc. Among them is a brief London interview with The Beatles by Sullivan which has not been seen since the day it aired (May 24, 1964); a 1966 black-and-white commercial for Beatles dolls introduced by Sullivan in color; and the host reading a 1967 telegram from The Beatles congratulating him on the renaming of the studio to “The Ed Sullivan Theater.”

“Usually when there is a major historic moment, it’s seen on every channel,” notes Solt. “What makes the first Beatles performance so unusual is that ‘The Ed Sullivan Show’ was the only place you could see it. Even though their music was everywhere, we had never seen them live. It was a shared joyous moment for an entire generation and still is today.”

The Beatles appeared live on “Sullivan” three more times–the following Sunday from Miami, a third consecutive show (February 23), and finally September 12, 1965. In all, the Fab Four performed 20 songs (15 different ones), from “All My Loving” and “I Saw Her Standing There” (twice each) to “I Want To Hold Your Hand” (three times), “Yesterday” and “Help!

The Sunday night variety show, which ran from 1948 to 1971, was seen live in the Central and Eastern time zones but fortunately was taped for airing in the Pacific and Mountain time zones. Yet few tapes had been transferred to a contemporary format until Solt obtained the rights. Today he continues to transfer and remaster them. Solt’s other credits range from the 1979 TV special “Heroes Of Rock And Roll” and 1988 feature documentary “Imagine: John Lennon” to the 1991 Warner Brothers theatrical feature film “This is Elvis” to the 1995 TV documentary series “The History Of Rock ‘N’ Roll” and 2006 home video “Elvis: The Ed Sullivan Shows.”

“For so many people who experienced those first shows originally, including myself,” adds Solt, “we remember where we were. But we never saw them again. Now we can, and in context–the complete shows–with all the raw energy and excitement, the audience going crazy. There’s also a new generation, one that has bought the reissues, the Rock Band videogame, seen Paul McCartney play on the marquee of the Ed Sullivan Theater that’s the home of ‘The Late Show with David Letterman,’ heard the songs on ‘American Idol.’ They know the music so well even if they were born decades later. A word like ‘timeless’ gets overused but it definitely applies to The 4 Complete Ed Sullivan Shows Starring The Beatles.”

Ok Beatles fans! Here is your chance to score a free dvd of ‘The 4 Complete Ed Sullivan Shows Starring The Beatles’! Simply post your favorite Beatles song and why you love it in the comment section below and one lucky person will win! Contest ends September 27th. Good luck! (**Thank you for the entries. The winner has been chosen and notified.**)

Paul McCartney on David Letterman Late Show – VIDEOS

Sir Paul McCartney appeared on the “Late Show with David Letterman” last night after snubbing the show for and the Ed Sullivan Theater since 1964. He was last seen on the marquee with the rest of The Beatles in a show that would launch the British invasion.

[Paul McCartney Performing on Late Show Marquee - Video]

It was more of a serious interview as they chatted about the band and how it got it’s start. It was mostly Beatles talk. They even delved into crazy rumors that had died while shooting the cover the infamous Abbey Road album.

[Paul McCartney Talks About Michael Jackson on Late Show with David Letterman - Video]

“It was great, we had a great time,” McCartney said. “It was Christmas and I was at home and my phone rang and a little voice talked to me and I said ‘Who’s this?’ you know, kind of guarding my privacy, my private number.

“I said who’s this? ‘It’s Michael.’ I thought it was, you know, a little bit sort of dodgy. But anyway he said, ‘Michael Jackson.’ He said, ‘You want to make some hits?’ So I said, ‘Yeah, sure’ – you know, being of the hit-making variety.”

Of course his friendship with the recently departed Michael Jackson came up. The infamously parted ways after Michael outbid Paul for the publishing rights to a 4,000 song music catalogue. Jackson paid around $47 million for the rights and subsequently received 50% of the royalties.

Paris Hilton and Paul McCartney Duet

This is one of the many things that will NEVER happen. I will grow a third arm and have Sparklepants’ love child before Hilton touches a Beatle.

While at the Grammy Awards Paris Hilton asked Paul McCartney to doe a duet with her. Bwhahaha!

Per The Daily Telegraph:

Paris, 27, said to 66-year-old Sir Paul: “I’d love to do a duet with you. I’m a singer too and have had an album out.”

To which he said he would have to check his schedule. He might as well have patted her on the head and said… “Oh you are one brave dumb ho aren’t you?”

Paul McCartney Remarries…Again

Sir Paul McCartney may be singing “I do” again soon. This time it would be to Nancy Shevell, a US haulage heiress, who’s divorce from wealthy lawyer Bruce Blakeman was made final December 9th in the US Supreme Court of the State of New York. The pair legally separated in November 2007 after 23 years of marriage, with the relationship between Paul and Nancy blossoming shortly after. This would be McCartney’s third marriage. His first was to Linda McCartney, who died in 1998 from breast cancer. His second to Heather Mills ended in divorce just a few years ago.

McCartney, 66, has the blessing of designer daughter Stella McCartney, who is said to be ‘delighted’ to welcome Nancy into the family. Nancy, 49, has grown so close to Stella and her family that she spoils her children with presents on Christmas and birthdays. That should come as a relief to Paul since Stella and his last wife Heather made it very publically known of their dislike for each other.

Via Mirror.co.uk:

“Getting Stella’s seal of approval was very important for Paul,” a well-placed McCartney insider said yesterday. All Paul’s children had massive reservations about Heather – but it was Stella who was the most vociferous. Nancy is funny, bright, loving, warm and open. Stella has told friends that Nancy would make an ideal stepmother.”

Nancy has also been spending a lot of time with Paul’s 5 year old daughter Beatrice. The former Beatle himself has even asked for the approval of the family of his first wife Linda. Paul and his first wife were friends with the Blakemans before Linda’s death, knowing each other from holidaying in the upmarket coastal resort of The Hamptons on Long Island. Linda’s brother John Eastman joined Sir Paul and Nancy for a very public lunch in Manhattan almost two weeks ago. Mills’ friends and family see Shevell as much closer in spirit to Linda than former wife & gold-digger Heather, who ended up costing McCartney close to 50 million dollars in what has been called one of the nastiest divorces in the last decade.

Via Mirror.co.uk:

“Nancy has been through a lot – not least overcoming breast cancer. She also comes from a similar wealthy East Coast background to Linda. They shared a similar outlook on life. She joined the family firm in the 1980s and has become wealthy in her own right. It makes everyone comfortable that she is clearly not after Paul’s money. She is calm, measured and mature, whereas Heather is fiery and impulsive. It suits Paul that she is also discreet and, unlike Heather, does not court publicity. Nancy and Sir Paul are totally natural together and feel blessed to have found happiness together.”

Per Page Six via The Insider:

“I’ve been dating a very hot, humble English guy for nine months. As for my ex and I, we get on fine. We’re like any civil divorced couple. I haven’t actually met Nancy, but my daughter says she’s wonderful. Paul’s got great taste in women.” says Heather Mills.

However, Shevell does differ in a few areas from McCartney. She is a meat-eating Republican, but it has been reported that she toned down her right-wing Republican views to align herself more with McCartneys liberal political outlook, ane even has replaced her favorite steaks for veggie dishes in deference to his long-standing refusal to eat meat… It seems no one has anything bad to say about Nancy, even the ex which is good. Hey, they always say “third times the charm,” right?
