New Music Friday – Palmdale

Palmdale is the “nom de rock” adopted by Kay Hanley & Linus Of Hollywood as they embarked on a new song writing venture in the summer of 2009. Kay Hanley is the former lead singer of Boston alt-pop band, Letters To Cleo. Since the band’s split in 2000, Kay has released 3 solo recordings and has provided songs and vocals for many film & TV projects, including Josie & The Pussycats, and toured as a back-up vocalist with Hannah Montana. Multi-instrumentalist Linus Of Hollywood has an eclectic resume that began as the frontman for the influential pop/punk band Size 14. Since then, Linus has released 5 solo albums, started two labels (Franklin Castle and Crappy Records) and has built a career as producer/songwriter, working with a diverse roster of artists (Bowling For Soup, Puff Daddy, Charlatans UK and Cheap Trick to name a few).

Long time fans of one another’s work, Linus + Kay became acquainted while active participants in Los Angeles’ thriving music community and decided to combine forces. Originally, their collaboration was intended to produce pop songs that other artists would record, but that idea was quickly scrapped when the music began to take on a cohesive sound and depth. They kept the material for themselves, tweaked the focus and continued writing. They recorded the songs in fall/winter of 2009 as Palmdale. You can watch their video for “Here Comes The Summer” above.

Joaquin Phoenix Starts Rap Career

Really? He’s doing this? Ok…

According to NME Joaquin Phoenix is joining forces with new BFF, Sean Combs aka Puff Daddy aka Diddy, aka P. Diddy, to launch himself into rap. Diddy, Daddy, whatever the hell personality he is today, will produce this adventure. Meanwhile, Casey Affleck will document his experience and turn it into a movie. Joaquin is already scheduled to do a show in Las Vegas.

He recently hung out with Puffy and Casey at an event in Miami looking like the Unibomber. He announced his retirement from acting at a carpeted event to a stunned reporter from Extra. He appeared drunk or high, possibly both. A stunned Casey Affleck also confirmed that he has plans to put out an album.

Worries that he is back on his drug addiction also follow the report of his decision to leave the film world for music. Friends have urged the troubled star to get help and have reached out to him, but find he is unresponsive to their offers.

What is that old cliché? “Match in a gas tank…BOOM BOOM!”

Diddy Wants on ‘30 Rock’

P. Diddy, Puff Daddy, Sean Combs or whatever the devil he wishes to be called by his minions wants a piece of Tina Fey.

Currently he after any acting role he can get his hands on. He recently scored a spot on CSI: Miami and is pimping himself shamelessly.

“I’m out here in Hollywood going on auditions. So you directors out there, for real, I’m an actor for hire. I have no shame in my game. You tell me where to be, and I’ll audition, ok.”

He and ‘30 Rock’ and SNL alumni, Tracy Morgan, have been working on a “scheme” to get Diddy on the show.

“I’m definitely trying to holler at Tina Fey,” Diddy himself admits. “Me and Tracy [Morgan], we’ve been talking, and we got a scheme up our sleeves. I’m definitely trying to get in on that in the next two years, for real.”

At least he is getting on the right wagon. Tina Fey is the new black.
