New Music Friday – Muse

If you are a fan of the “Twilight” series, then you more than likely have heard of Muse, who had a hit off the movies’ soundtrack with the song titled “Supermassive Black Hole,” and the song “I Belong To You (New Moon Remix)” off the next movie in the saga “New Moon.” Considered to be an alternative rock band who formed in the early 90s from Teignmouth, England, the band consists of longtime friends Matthew Bellamy, Chris Wolstenholme, and Dominic Howard. They’ve changed band names a number of times (from names such as Gothic Plague, Fixed Penalty, and Rocket Baby Dolls) before finally deciding on the name Muse. Their sound is a blend of alternative rock, classical, electronica, metal, spanish guitars, and progressive rock.

The band is known for their energetic live performances and front man Bellamy’s avid interests in unconventional things such as global conspiracy, extraterrestrial life, theology and the apocalypse. Their lyrical themes involve madcap conspiracy theory, revolutionary rabble-rousing, weird stuff about aliens, religions and other such classic Muse concerns. They have won many musical awards over the years, including 5 MTV Europe Awards 5 Q Awards, 6 NME Awards, and 2 BRIT Awards. The majority of these awards have been attributed to their live performances.

Muse have been heavily involved with “Teenage Cancer Trust,” a charity that focuses on the needs of teenagers and young adults with cancer, leukemia, Hodgkin’s and related diseases. They have performed at the Royal Albert Hall where they donated all money made from the merchandise stands to the charity. In September of 2008 all three members were awarded Honorary Doctorates of the Arts by Plymouth University.

Muse has released five studio albums, with their latest released this September titled “The Resistance.” It is the first Muse album to have been produced by the band itself. On its release, it topped the album charts in 19 countries and reached number 3 on the American album charts. The first single off the album, “Uprising,” has reached #1 on the Billboard Hot Alternative Songs chart becoming their 6th Top 10 single and first #1 on that chart. Twilight Takes Over Religion – Edward is the New Xenu

Attention Twi-Hards: there is a fine line between cute obsession and complete and total lunacy, and some of us have crossed that line.

According to sources, a group of “Twilight” fans have started their own religion based on Stephenie Meyer’s vampire-love book series. Xenu beware!

The followers of this ‘religion’ refer to themselves as “Cullenists” and, like any religion, they have their own set of beliefs and rules that should be followed. These rules are based on the belief that the Cullens (the surname of the vampire family in the books) are in fact, real.

Via Examiner.com:

“Their creed includes a base set of beliefs that Edward and the rest of the ‘Twilight’ characters are real; that the ‘Twilight’ series should be worshipped and that if you are good in life, you will be bless[ed] with eternity with the Cullens.”

Question: are we really interested in eternity with the Cullens or with Robert Pattinson? Spending eternity with Edward Cullen sounds nice, but if we have to throw in Rosalie, I am out.

Cullenists also believe that the “Twilight” series should be read daily like a Bible and followers should make a pilgrimage to the small town of Forks, Washington during their lifetime. I am sure the good people of Forks are rejoicing.

All of us here at Hollywood Dame love “Twilight.” Not to mention, we would all like to go a few rounds with Robert Pattinson and the rest of the male cast members of the movie for that matter. However, this is too much. People are crossing the line here. Enjoy the books and the movie; spin your own fantasies involving Sparklepants and Peter Facinelli. Mine involves a lot of wine and a large bathtub. But leave it at that.

Now, if you’ll excuse me I have a plane to catch. I am spending spring break in Washington and Vancouver to, um, see the sights. Yes! That’s it, sight-seeing.

Lindsay Lohan Converting to Judaism

Oy vey. Let’s hope this one is a rumor.

Lindsay Lohan is converting to Judaism for her girlfriend, Samantha Ronson. They have been experiencing some rocky roads (mmm….ice cream) in their relationship for years now. As an attempt to prove her undying love for Ronson, Lohan is said to be switching to the Jewish faith to show her devotion to her lady love.

Via Mirror:

“LiLo visited a London synagogue with her DJ girlfriend on Friday. And then she returned to the same place of worship in South Kensington for more yesterday – as Samantha’s official date for the bar mitzvah of her half-brother Joshua Ronson.

And Lindsay showed she’s really becoming part of the family by joining in with the post-bar mitzvah lunch in London’s Mandarin Oriental hotel.”

The report also states that she updated her Facebook profile to announce her conversion. The update read: “I’m converting.”

My apologies to the Jewish faith.

Jessica Simpson Loves Her Some Good Jesus

Dipped in BBQ sauce of course. The Patron Saint of Incompetence is turning to God after watching “The Da Vinci Code.” After supposedly sitting through the entire movie (that lack any cartoon characters) Jessica Simpson decided to go get herself some Bible learning.

“I’ve been contemplating taking a college course in religion. I love religion. I remember whenever the book ‘The Da Vinci Code’ came out, the Discovery Channel did this three-night piece on it that I TiVoed and then watched eight times.”

I doubt any truth to her inspiration. It was probably more like ….She was in line at Burger King and saw a honk if you love ‘Jesus is My Co-Pilot’ bumper sticker and then went to the window and ordered…“I’ll take a Whopper some fries and a side of Jesus please.” Unless she is worshiping at the alter of “Dickey’s Barbecue Pits” I don’t buy it.
