Rue McClanahan Dies at 76

Whenever we lose an icon it’s a sad day, but when that legend in question was one of the most beloved TV stars it’s even harder to swallow. It is with great sadness that we must announce the passing of one of our beloved “Golden Girls” Rue McClanahan, most famous for playing Blanche Deveraux.

Per People:

“She passed away at 1 a.m. this morning,” her manager, Barbara Lawrence, tells PEOPLE. She had a massive stroke.”

McClanahan, who at seventy-six years old was one of two surviving Golden Girls actresses along with Betty White (Bea Arthur died last year and Estelle Getty died in 2008) suffered a minor stroke earlier this year while recovering from bypass surgery. PEOPLE also reports that her family was by her side when she passed this morning and “went in peace.”

Per Hollywood Life:

“Rue was a close and dear friend. I treasured our relationship. It hurts more then I ever thought it would, if that’s possible,” says Betty White.

Rue McClanahan, Dennis Hopper, & Gary Coleman. Really, 3 seats to one of the best poker tables ever. Our condolences and deepest sympathy to her family and friends during this incredibly sad time. As always, thank you for being a friend Rue.

Rue McClanahan Suffered a Stroke

Oh kittens! Let us light a thousand candles in a vigil for Rue McClanahan. The fiercest ho on the “Golden Girls” suffered a stroke shortly after undergoing a heart bypass surgery.

Via America’s Globe Magazine Per Contact Music:

“The 75 year old collapsed in a New York hospital a week after undergoing surgery.
Doctors worked around the clock to remove a blood clot, but feared they’d failed to save MCClanahan’s life.

Wilson says, “Then, her right leg began to move and, not long afterward, she was able to walk a bit.
“They kept her in ICU (intensive care) for two weeks and then put her into the rehab centre. She’s come out of that and is now in a nursing facility.”

While we are all very thankful she has survived the stroke, it has taken a toll on the actress.

“Wilson, who has been married to MCClanahan for 12 years, adds, “She can understand what you are saying in conversation, but still has some trouble speaking. Her speech is slower than it once was and she hasn’t completely recovered on the right side of her body.”

We here at Hollywood Dame wish her the best of health and happiness. We hope she continues to recover and admire her strength.

Rue McClanahan Hospitalized

We have another Golden Girl down! My favorite of the foursome is battling a few heart issues. Rue McClanahan, who played Blanche Devereaux, is being treated for acute cardiac illness. Despite being under the weather she is in good spirits.

She was due to attend ‘Golden: A Gala Tribute to Rue McClanahan’ in San Franciso on November 14th, but will not be able to attend. Her doctor has set strict orders for rest and some testing.

“My darlings, I’m just devastated that I am going to have to miss my own tribute at the Castro Theatre,” she said in a statement on Wednesday from her hospital room. “Unfortunately, my doctor has laid down the law, and I’m currently having some maintenance on the old ticker. Trust me, I’d much rather be in San Francisco having fun and being adored by all of you.”

Upon hearing the news that she was in the hospital, the gala organizer, Marc Huestis is contemplating on postponing the event.

All the Dames wish her quick and full recovery.
